The Black Plague probably began somewhere in the Gobi, a desert in central Asia. Trade between China, India, the Middle East, and Europe made it possible for the plague to spread rapidly throughout these regions. ASIA AND AFRICA The plague was carried to Alexandria in 1347. The next year, the plague moved to Libya and Damascus. The following year, it reached Makkah. The plague erupted again in China in 1353. EUROPE The plague appeared in Caffa in 1346.
