PrHD uses the 720 prgressive HDV frmat and prduces crisp, native HD images which perfectly match tday s digital displays and which can be cnverted easily, withut degradatin, t interlaced scanning pictures. 2. Time Cde As a prfessinal system, PrHD prducts include the facility t recrd and display timecde. Cnvenient menu peratin makes it easy t preset time cde at the beginning f a tape. Highly efficient vide cmpressin T prvide the highest quality HD recrding, JVC uses the bradcast industry standard MPEG-2 Main Prfile at HL-14. Offering far greater efficiency than frame-bund systems, PrHD recrds at data rates at r abve cmmercial bradcast rates. Recent advancements in nn-linear editing have made it pssible t edit PrHD n virtually all ppular Nn-Linear systems. Direct digital transfers thrugh IEEE 1394 ensure the quality is maintained thrughut the transfer prcess. 4. Advantages f PrHD 1. HDV frmat HDV is a vide frmat designed t enable the recrding f high definitin MPEG-2 vide n standard DV media (DV r MiniDV cassette tape). The HDV frmat was defined by fur cmpanies: Cann Inc., Sharp Crpratin, Sny Crpratin, and Victr Cmpany f Japan, Limited (JVC). The specificatin f the HDV frmat incrprates tw versins, ne prgressive (720p) and the ther interlaced (1080i). HDV uses the same track pitch and tape speed as the DV frmat, and therefre the recrding times are the same length as the DV frmat. 2.HD Prgressive (720p) frmat fr high quality mving pictures and digital stills Prgressive scanning The new PrHD prducts use the same prgressive scanning system as used in all high-end digital cinema cameras. Prgressive scanning systems capture and stre full frames f infrmatin and the prgressive signal can be cnverted easily t interlaced if desired. When prgressive recrdings are frzen r played in slw mtin, each individual frame cntains the full detail f the riginal image excellent fr viewing and analysing mtin. Stills and prints captured frm HD prgressive vide lk far better than frm interlaced vide. In any case, tday s flat panel televisin displays and fixed matrix prjectrs, such as D-ILA, DLP and LCD, are all native prgressive scanning systems. This means that JVC s prgressive recrdings can be displayed perfectly and that they d nt need t pass thrugh the degenerative prcess f de-interlacing. Multi-frmat utput (BR-HD50) Prgressively scanned pictures are cnverted easily t the interlaced frmat by extracting the dd lines frm prgressive frame 1 and the even lines frm prgressive frame 2 t create the tw fields required fr each interlaced frame. Nt nly des the BR-HD50 utput its native 720p, but als its built-in scan cnverter can generate 1080i and standard definitin signals. Cnverting the ther way, t prgressive frm interlaced, presents a much greater technical challenge, requiring bth hardware and mtin analysis sftware t achieve satisfactry results. 3
Blu-ray and HD-DVD cmpatible The IEEE 1394 cnnectr prvides a digital utput fr editing & recrding and fr direct transfer t the new generatin DVD frmats (Blu-ray and HD-DVD). PrHD camcrders and recrders, with their native MPEG-2 TS (Transprt Stream), prvide a recrding signal which is easily transferred t these new DVD frmats. This ensures n lss f picture quality. HDV and DV cmpatibility The HDV frmat uses the same recrding track pitch (10 µm) as Prfessinal DV, meaning that PrHD als ffers track pitch cmpatibility with the DV frmat and the same recrding time. This remarkable HD recrding capability was achieved by develping a new high-pwer MPEG cdec system capable f maintaining high-definitin picture quality, whilst cmpressing the data t 19.7 Mbps bit rate. With its superir reslutin and advanced prcessing, PrHD delivers tp perfrmance in bth its native 16:9 HD mde and in the SD mde. The facility t make recrdings in either HD r SD makes PrHD the ideal chice fr prfessinals nt quite ready t make the full transitin t HD. Prgressive HDV-cmpatible supprt T maximise picture quality and perfrmance frm input t utput, JVC emplys the HDV 720 prgressive system. Prgressive HDV s reslutin f 1280 x 720 is the same as the native reslutin f mst HD display devices in use tday (LCD, plasma, DLP, D-ILA). HDV 720p is thus natively cmpatible in terms f bth reslutin and scanning system with the vast majrity f tday s HD displays. 3. Real 24p 24p Prgressive Full HD images are ideal fr cinematgraphic applicatins. Frm shting t editing and distributin, an HD system can be established fr film-like prductins. Unlike 24p images in standard definitin, when real 24p HD vide is dwn-cnverted t SD, the result is truly film-like DVDs. The camcrder itself can be cnfigured with bth a matte bx and C- munt adapter t take prime film lenses. 4. JVC s dual recrding system It is already utilised extensively by Prfessinal DV users the wrld ver. The many advantages inherent in JVC s dual recrding system f tape & hard disk drive are well appreciated. It was nly natural that JVC s range f PrHD mdels wuld include a Hard Disk Drive recrder and ne that can perate equally in DV and HDV mdes. The dual recrding system prvides fast and efficient HDD-based editing and cst-effective archiving, using lw-cst tapes. Thanks t the newly develped MPEG-2 encding IC, high-quality pictures can be recrded n readily available cmpact DV cassettes, s running csts are minimal. As n special equipment r exclusive media are required, the perating csts f the ttal system can be kept lw. The DR-HD100 can be munted at the rear f the camcrder, utilising an ptinal bracket.
