Recommended brands of instruments: FOLKS MIDDLE SCHOOL STALLION BAND FLUTE SUPPLY LIST Recommended Brands o Gemeinhardt o Pearl o Yamaha Other brands: Armstrong, Emerson, Haynes, King, Miyazawa, Selmer, Powell, Artley Try to get an open-hole flute (we will use plugs at first). It does not necessarily need the B-foot as this will not be utilized much if at all. If purchasing a used instrument, you will want to check for pad quality they should not be dry or brittle, flaking or fuzzy or have dark rings on the surface. Make sure all pads are present. Try to see that all keys seal (ideally, an air-leak test should be performed by a professional). Look to see that rods are straight and don t appear bent or warped. Make sure the cork in the end of the head joint doesn t move easily or fall out and that it has the end cap. o Polish cloth (Get one made for silver instruments. Do not get silver polish cream. This can affect tone and ease of playability. This will be the horn that your child needs for playing past the first year and we would prefer that you not have to purchase a whole new instrument. Please try to get a trigger trombone so that we can begin to cover use of the trigger and alternate positions in the first year. This will be the horn that your child needs for playing past the first year and we would prefer you not have to purchase a whole new instrument. FOLKS MIDDLE SCHOOL STALLION BAND PERCUSSION SUPPLY LIST Percussion kit this kit should come in a zippered soft carrying case, should contain a practice pad, a small xylophone, and a stand. There are kits that also contain a small snare drum if you can obtain one of these kits, please do; this will mean more opportunity to practice on an actual drum. LABEL EVERYTHING IN THIS KIT (INCLUDING THE CASE) PERMANENTLY WITH YOUR CHILD S NAME.
