Welcome to the 2017-2018 Season What was it that made Giacomo Puccini not only the most popular opera composer of his lifetime but (arguably) the most successful of all time? He had the ability to wield such orchestral power and vocal poignance that it could bring any aria, any opera to a unique and personal climax from the heart-pounding rush of music and emotion to a heart-stopping moment of electric silence then a thunderous roar of applause. That was his genius. That was his gift. What some opera lovers called The Puccini Moment. This season, we have harvested a half dozen of these moments for the 2018 Festival, plus a Puccini-inspired extra. We ll also introduce a new Studio series, Opera Uncorked with Swigg, and present two concert performances with piano of Massenet s heart-wrenching Werther. So cheers to a new season!
