Stories Begin THE 2016 SEASON
WELCOME Practice any art, music, singing, dancing, acting, drawing, painting, sculpting, poetry, fiction, essays, reportage, no matter how well or badly, not to get money and fame, but to experience becoming, to find out what s inside you, to make your soul grow. Kurt Vonnegut To be the Executive Director of an organization such as Quincy Community Theatre, one must always keep in mind our mission. It is one thing to compose and believe in a mission, but we must take the time to see how we are doing. Sometimes we just need to restate what we do and why. Whether you are a volunteer, a season ticket holder, a sponsor, or just someone who loves live theatre, just know that you can be a part of making one s soul grow. Join us in 2016 as we tell some great stories, both new and classic. There are so many great opportunities to be involved in this story, be it onstage, backstage, with costumes and props, as an usher, or as an audience member experiencing the show. And as a Season Ticket holder, you won t miss a page. The QCT Board of Directors and the professional staff are committed to offering quality theatre entertainment and education. We are only able to do it because of the wonderful people in this great community. Stories begin at QCT! Join us as we encourage everyone to experience becoming, and make our souls grow! J. Daniel Conboy Executive Director Mission Statement To offer and perpetuate quality theatre entertainment and education in the performing arts through community participation. Once upon a time Thus the story begins. For us that time is 2016, and Quincy Community Theatre is beginning a story that will take us into a new chapter. Every show you will see this year is new to this venue. Most are completely new to our area. In fact, two of these stories are brand new to any community theatre. We are one of the first community theatres in the nation to produce both SISTER ACT and PETER AND THE STARCATCHER, a privilege granted to us because the licensing house recognized our theatre s reputation as one of the preeminent Community Theatres in [the] area. We are, quite literally, helping to begin a story as well. QCT is working with a playwright and composer on a musical adaptation of the Oscar Wilde play LADY WINDERMERE S FAN. This musical has only received one production elsewhere in the world. Now in collaboration with QCT, the script and score are being reworked and a new version will be presented as a staged reading in our Lab Theatre. Audiences will have the chance to experience a new musical being created right here in Quincy, IL. As for the characters in our onstage stories, they all have something in common: each character must face one world ending and another world beginning, something new and unexpected. Not only will these stories bring new worlds to our characters and our stage, but to our Quincy Community Theatre audiences and volunteers, as well. At every performance, there is at least one audience member who is experiencing his/her first live theatrical experience. The first show I saw is still very vivid in my mind, and it is an honor to present that opportunity for someone else, knowing that this event may change that person's life as it did mine. As for our volunteers, they begin new journeys with each production - they learn new skills and form new relationships that often lead to lasting friendships (and occasionally even a wedding)! We're proud to share these new worlds with you in 2016. Will you begin a story with us? Brandon J. Thomsen Artistic Director QCT s Main Stage season is chosen by a committee of volunteers who are representative of our audience demographics. Look throughout the brochure for highlights on why they love this season s selections and why you ll love them, too!
