Created and conducted by ISO Principal Pops Conductor Jack Everly, Duke Energy Yuletide Celebration s musical foundation is popular and classic holiday melodies set to orchestra and accented by theatrical elements, signature choreography and a full cast of singers. With Sandi Patty as host, audiences can expect a mix of favorites like I ll Be Home for Christmas and her rendition of O Holy Night alongside new holiday tributes such as a Holiday Motown Medley; excerpts from Broadway s A Christmas Story: The Musical; and a nod to the award-winning film The Sound of Music with special guests The von Trapp Family Singers the five great-grandchildren of Captain and Maria von Trapp. Back by popular demand as guest soloists are ISO Concertmaster Zach De Pue and violinist Michelle Kang, who will be taking turns throughout December performing an energetic, contemporary version of the classic Good King Wenceslas. And as always, the production includes the musical storytelling of Twas the Night Before Christmas with full-size puppetry and the ever popular 16 Tap Dancing Santas. All Duke Energy Yuletide Celebration ticketholders are greeted at the Hilbert Circle Theatre door by live reindeer, live music on the ISO s historic Wurlitzer pipe organ and costumed characters. Duke Energy Yuletide Celebration: A Holiday Tradition Sponsored for the seventh year by Duke Energy and produced and presented by the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Duke Energy Yuletide Celebration grew from humble beginnings in 1986, when the ISO collaborated with many local performing arts organizations and presented eight holiday performances to an audience of 13,000 people. Today, those eight performances have transformed into a full-scale, Broadway-style holiday production of 22 performances, which is the largest of its kind among orchestras in North America. Duke Energy Yuletide Celebration now attracts more than 40,000 people to the Hilbert Circle Theatre each December and has traveled to other major orchestras in cities such Baltimore, Detroit, Seattle, Portland and at the Kennedy Center with the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D.C. He has conducted the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl, The New York Pops at Carnegie Hall and appears regularly with The Cleveland Orchestra at Blossom Music Center. In the 2013-14 season he will debut with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and the Philadelphia Orchestra at The Mann Center. This year Maestro Everly will conduct more than 90 performances in more than 20 North American cities. As Music Director of the National Memorial Day Concert and A Capitol Fourth on PBS, Maestro Everly proudly leads the National Symphony Orchestra in these patriotic celebrations on the National Mall. These concerts attract hundreds of thousands attendees on the lawn and the broadcasts reach millions of viewers and are some of the very highest rated programming on PBS television. Mr. Everly is the also Music Director of Duke Energy Yuletide Celebration, now a 27-year tradition. He led the ISO in its first Pops recording, Yuletide Celebration, Volume One, that included three of his own orchestrations. Some of his other recordings include In The Presence featuring the Czech Philharmonic and Daniel Rodriguez, Sandi Patty s Broadway Stories, the soundtrack to Disney s The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Everything s Coming Up Roses: The Complete Overtures Of Jule Styne. Originally appointed by Mikhail Baryshnikov, Mr. Everly was conductor of the American Ballet Theatre for 14 years, where he served as Music Director. In addition to his ABT tenure, he teamed with Marvin Hamlisch on Broadway shows that Mr. Hamlisch scored. He conducted Carol Channing hundreds of times in Hello, Dolly! in two separate Broadway productions. In 1998, Jack Everly created the Symphonic Pops Consortium, serving as Music Director. The Consortium, based in Indianapolis, produces new theatrical pops programs, including this season s On Broadway with Kander & Ebb. In the past 12 years, more than 250 performances of SPC programs have taken place across the U.S. and Canada.

Maestro Everly, a graduate of the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, holds an Honorary Doctorate of Arts from Franklin College in his home state of Indiana. He is a proud resident of the Indianapolis community for more than 12 years. Sandi Patty As one of the most highly acclaimed performers of our time with five Grammy awards, four Billboard Music Awards, three platinum records, five gold records, and eleven million units sold, Sandi Patty is simply known as The Voice. Sandi is the most awarded female vocalist in contemporary Christian music history, with 40 Dove Awards. She was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2004 and as an Indiana Living Legend in 2007. She has released over 30 albums, including her latest album Everlasting exclusively at Target Stores, through Somerset, Ltd. Everlasting features notable hymns and songs of worship in an intimate and acoustic setting. Her debut full length symphonic pops album Broadway Stories, conducted by Maestro Jack Everly, was released on October 18, 2011 to rave reviews. Sandi was introduced to the world with her rendition of The Star Spangled Banner during the rededication of the Statue of Liberty in 1986. Virtually overnight she became one of the country s bestloved performers. Her version of the national anthem has become synonymous with patriotic celebration, including performances at A Capitol Fourth with the National Symphony, the Indianapolis 500, the Dedication of Camp David Chapel, and ABC s Fourth of July Special. While her 30-year career is heavily rooted in the gospel music industry, Sandi has had the opportunity in more recent years to extend her career outside the genre. Sandi has performed with symphonies across the country, including the New York Pops, Boston Pops, Cincinnati Pops, Dallas Symphony, Baltimore Symphony, Houston Symphony, and Oklahoma City Philharmonic. She also headlined the title role in sold out performances of the musical Hello, Dolly! with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, co-starring Tony Award-winner Gary Beach in January 2012. In addition to her prolific musical career, Sandi is also an accomplished author. For the bestseller Broken on the Back Row, Sandi received the 2006 Silver Angel Award. As an author of seven books, her other titles include Life in the Blender, Falling Forward, Layers, and her forthcoming book, The Edge of the Divine. Her down-to-earth style and sturdy common sense have endeared her to Women of Faith audiences, with whom she has traveled with since 2005. Sandi and her husband, Don, have eight children. They currently reside in Oklahoma City, OK. The von Trapp Family Singers You cannot find another name as universally beloved as Von Trapp. The story of the family who escaped Austria, moved to the United States, and toured the world singing for two decades has inspired generations since the film The Sound of Music was released in 1964. The history continues as the great grandchildren of the Captain and Maria von Trapp take up the family tradition anew. Sofi, Melanie, Amanda, and August von Trapp, four siblings that, for the last 12 years, have been singing on stages around the world to critical acclaim and packed houses.

Sofi (25), Melanie (23), Amanda (22), and August von Trapp (18) have toured and traveled over five continents Europe, Australia, Asia, Africa and North America and performed extensively in the UK, New Zealand, China, Japan, and the Philippines. They have appeared in concert at the Hollywood Bowl, The Sydney Opera House, The Forbidden City in Beijing, Seoul Square, Korea, the Grand Ole Opry, Austin City Limits and at La Nuit des Choeurs Festival in Belgium. The von Trapps made their Carnegie Hall debut in December 2012 with Pink Martini and the New York Pops Orchestra under the direction of Steven Reineke. They have also appeared with dozens of major symphony orchestras in the United States and Canada, including the Boston Pops, Cincinnati Pops, Toronto Symphony, the Pacific Symphony, and Nashville Symphony among others. They have appeared on the Today Show, Good Morning America, CBS Sunday Morning, The View, and The Oprah Winfrey Show. The four siblings originally began by singing Austrian and American folk songs their grandfather, Werner von Trapp (portrayed as Kurt the incorrigible in The Sound of Music), taught them at the family home in Kalispell, Montana. The four simply knew their grandfather as Opa, and when he suffered a stroke 12 years ago, the siblings made a recording of the songs to cheer him up never expecting it would inspire a new musical legacy. Since that beginning, they have recorded six albums, a concert DVD, and are currently working on a number of musical projects to be released next year. They have recently collaborated on a song with Rufus Wainwright called Kitty Come Home to be released on Pink Martini's new album titled Get Happy. After many years of extensive touring, the four siblings have lately relocated to Portland, OR and are working on a new collaborative album with Thomas Lauderdale and Pink Martini. The album will be released in spring 2014. They are also writing original songs and generating a new international, multilingual repertoire that honors their family legacy as well as their own immediate past.
