The course explores 16mm film and digital cinema as well as lighting and grip techniques using industry standard equipment. Students work closely together on set learning proper set etiquette as well as the roles and relationships of the different crew positions. Students develop and refine a language for the critical discussion of works of cinema, focusing on the role of the cinematographer and the visual decisions that contribute to successful filmmaking. Harvard Extension School 2014 - Present Instructor in Digital Media Arts Lighting Design for Video and Post-Production A extensive study of the properties of light, focusing on their relationship to camera controls and settings, and how these choices can reinforce creative intent. Introduction to digital post-production workflows and color grading focusing on how differing acquisition methods such as log encoded footage can affect post-production workflows. Software covered includes Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe SpeedGrade, Adobe After Effects, DaVinci Resolve, and REDCINE-X Pro. Students work extensively in small groups gaining hands-on experience and developing the necessary communication skills and set etiquette to succeed in the variety of film and video roles. CS50 R&D investigates and experiments with innovative pedagogical methods for online learning including virtual reality and augmented reality video.
