Community Arts Program (CAP) Press Contact: Mark Hart Executive & Artistic Director Press Land: (305) 448-7421, ext. 120 Press Mobile: (786) 423-3071 May 18, 2015 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE World-Renowned Jazz & Classical Musicians Gather in Coral Gables, Florida for the 30 th Community Arts Program (CAP) Summer Concert Series! Community Arts Program (CAP) Summer Concert Series marks its 30 th Season, at Coral Gables Congregational United Church of Christ, with a Spectacular Summer Concert Series Line-up. www.communityartsprogram.org MIAMI, FL - This summer, June 4 through August 13, in a quiet Miami neighborhood and within the Coral Gables Congregational United Church of Christ s intimate, historic Spanish-revival style setting, concertgoers will have the unique opportunity to be awed and entertained by the music industry s most talented and revered classical and jazz figures. These artists will perform and delight audiences on the Community Arts Program (CAP) 2015 Summer Concert Series! The Community Arts Program Summer Concert Series has entertained more than 64,000 people since it began in 1985. The Series has grown into a valued tradition and, more recently, part of a Community Arts Program that also provides music education to children within its Conservatory for the Arts. The Community Arts Program (CAP) Summer Concert Series is a rare opportunity to hear world-renowned artists in the intimate and beautiful Coral Gables Congregational United Church of Christ, says Shelton G. Berg, University of Miami Dean of the Phillip and Patricia Frost School of Music. The CAP Conservatory for the Arts provides high-quality music education to children, many of whom would otherwise be denied access to the wonder of music and the beauty of the artistic spirit. 1 of 4

Page 2 of 4 We are very excited to again present a diverse and world-class line up of artists, says Mark Hart, Executive & Artistic Director of the Community Arts Program. It s an honor to welcome concertgoers locally, from across the state, and as far away as Europe; and rewarding to see the growth of our music education program for kids! In all, we ve come to provide exceptional cultural- and educationally-enriching experiences for more than 3,000 children and adults each year! Community Arts Program (CAP) 2015 Summer Concert Series Line-Up JUNE 4 - JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER PRESENTS: SHERMAN IRBY QUINTET Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (JLCO) member Sherman Irby brings his all-star quintet to open the CAP 2015 Summer Concert Series! An accomplished bandleader, educator, and saxophonist with the sweetest tone, the Sherman Irby Quintet will be paying tribute to Art Blakey and the music pioneered by Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers. Joining Irby will be trombonist and fellow JLCO member Vincent Gardner, and Jazz at Lincoln Center favorite, drummer Willie Jones III, whose resume includes renowned leadership and supporting roles with icons like Freddie Hubbard, Sonny Rollins, Christian McBride, and Arturo Sandoval. Rounding out a sensational gathering is pianist Charles Craig and bassist Dezron Douglass. Opening the concert will be the CAP Miami Jazz Institute ALL-STAR Jazz Ensemble, fresh from its performance on Jazz at Lincoln Center s stage in the 2015 Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Festival and Competition. JUNE 18 - AMIT PELED, classical cellist Israeli cellist Amit Peled is acclaimed as one of the most exciting instrumentalists on the concert stage today. In an historic Homage to Pablo Casals, he ll recreate Pablo Casals 1915 Peabody Institute Conservatory of Music recital, performed on Pablo Casals very own cello, a Goffriler ca. 1733, personally handed to Amit Peled by the Maestro s widow, Mrs. Marta Casals Istomin. Experience an enthralling evening with Mr. Peled, pianist Noreen Polera, and the music of Handel, Bach, Beethoven, Fauré, and Saint-Saëns.

Page 3 of 4 JULY 2 - JAMES TORMÉ Multi-award winning artist James Tormé is a uniquely gifted singer whose music infuses older jazz classics with soul and R&B, and the showmanship of his three-time Grammy-awarded father, Mel Tormé. Begin your star-spangled holiday with James Tormé and his band as they pay tribute to all corners of American music history with a distinctly-inherited flare! JULY 16 - AWADAGIN PRATT, classical pianist Awadagin Pratt became the first African-American classical instrumentalist to win first prize in the 1992 Naumburg International Piano Competition. This Angel/EMI recording artist last appeared on the Community Arts Program (CAP) 2010 Summer Concert Series, where the press hailed his larger-than-life keyboard virtuosity and showmanship capable of the most fiendish pyrotechnics and subtle colors and shadings. For his 2015 Summer Concert Series recital, Awadagin brings works of Brahms, Bach, and Liszt. Listeners will be dazzled by Awadagin for the first time, or all over again! JULY 30 - JASON MARSALIS VIBES QUARTET Jason Marsalis is the youngest sibling of Wynton, Branford and Delfeayo, and son of jazz pianist Ellis, all of whom comprise New Orleans s venerable first family of jazz. Jason is well-known for his prodigious drumming. However, with the release of 2013 s In a World of Mallets, listeners now recognize Jason for his unique sound on the vibraphones. Here s to an absolutely mesmerizing evening with Jason Marsalis (vibes), Will Goble (bass), David Potter (drums), and Austin Johnson (piano). AUGUST 13 - ARTURO O FARRILL AND THE AFRO LATIN OCTET Arturo O Farrill, pianist, composer, and educator, is the 2015 GRAMMY winner for Best Latin Jazz Album. This comes as no surprise. Arturo is hailed by The New York Times as the leader of the first family of Afro-Cuban Jazz, and he s the son of late, great composer Chico O Farrill. Be prepared for a combination of piano, trumpet, sax, bass, drums and percussion that will move you, literally, into an exhilarating and unforgettable evening!
