Every Sunday afternoon from May - September this beautiful and historic church offers a platform for emerging artists and seasoned professionals to present exciting and eclectic programmes to the local community and the wider visiting audience. For over a decade, the St. Anne s Sunday Afternoon Recital Series has consistently attracted eminent and first-rate artists to perform in this uniquely atmospheric setting. The variety and scale of the performances grow each year, and this year s season includes some of the most ambitious programmes yet! Before and after every recital, home-made cakes and cream teas can be enjoyed in the church s Parish Rooms and surrounding picturesque grounds. A retiring collection goes towards sustaining and developing the rich musical life of the church. May 7 SHADWELL OPERA St. Anne s welcomes back innovative opera company Shadwell Opera. Accompanied by Finnegan Downie Dear, internationally-renowned tenor Samuel Furness presents Janacek s dark song-cycle The Diary of One Who Disappeared. (shadwellopera.co.uk) May 14 O QUAM GLORIOSAM Floreat, an a capella vocal consort based in Westminster, take us on a renaissance European tour through Spain, Italy and England. (cantandum.westminster.org.uk/floreat) May 21 BACH S FEAR & HOPE Ars Eloquentiae, directed by Chad Kelly, perform two cantatas by J. S. Bach. O Ewigkeit du Donnerwort BWV 60 explores the specifically-named characters of Fear and Hope, reconciled with the ever-popular Ich habe genug BWV 82. May 28 PIANO SERIES No. 1 Described in The Telegraph as remarkable, pianist Gamal Khamis returns to St. Anne s to give a recital centred around Brahms 6 Klavierstücke. Also featured in this programme is Chopin s great Ballade No. 4. (www.gamalkhamis.com) June 4 BACH S VIOLIN SONATAS Davina Clarke of the English Baroque Soloists performs Bach s Violin Sonata in C minor BWV 1017 alongside harpsichordist Chad Kelly, who performs Bach s English Suite in G minor BWV 808. June 11 BACH ORGAN WORKS Director of Music, Chad Kelly, explores the rich tapestry of musical genres on offer in some of Bach s greatest organ works.
June 18 THE ROMANTIC PIANO TRIO Violinist Kinga Ujszászi, Cellist Gavin Kibble and Pianist Chad Kelly juxtapose Schumann s great Piano Trio in G minor Op. 110 with the world-première of a piano trio movement inspired by the same work. June 25 A MUSICAL AVIARY Charlotte Ashley (Monteverdi Choir), Oliver-John Ruthven (Hampstead Garden Opera) and Davina Clarke (English Baroque Soloists), present a programme of Baroque music inspired by birdsong and nature, including a selection of Handel s sublime 9 German Arias. July 2 HANDEL S ZEPHYRS Handel s wind music contains some of the gems of 18th-Century chamber music. Virtuoso baroque specialists Leo Duarte and Laszlo Rozsa perform a selection of Handel s oboe and recorder sonatas, with accompaniment by Chad Kelly on the harpsichord. July 9 PIANO SERIES No. 2 Miguel Sousa has performed extensively throughout Europe and America. This concert is part of the European Tour 2017, where Miguel is performing in more than 10 countries with the programme Musical Images. A whole spectrum of works by Schumann, Bartok, Ravel, Mendelssohn, and Prokofiev will demonstrate music s unique ability to depict vivid pictures. July 16 BEETHOVEN PIANO CONCERTO In his penultimate recital given at St. Anne s, Director of Music, Chad Kelly, performs Beethoven s exquisite fourth piano concerto. Finnegan Downie Dear conducts an orchestra made up of some of London s best chamber musicians. July 23 BRANDENBURG CONCERTOS Before taking up a permanent post at the Bayerische Staatsoper, Munich, the final concert given by Director of Music, Chad Kelly, will feature two of Bach s greatest chamber works - Brandenburg Concertos No. 4 and No. 5.
