Intellectual Impact: Humanists Individualism: placed importance on individuals worth and interests instead of state control Humanists: artists that placed great emphasis on dignity, worth, and uniqueness of each person. Wealthy merchants called patrons support (pay for) artists to create art

Intellectual Impact: Science and Technology Church taught that the earth was the center of the universe Nicholas Copernicus was a Polish scientist who concluded that the earth orbited around the sun Heliocentric: the idea that the earth and other planets revolve around the sun

Intellectual Impact: Science and Technology Galileo Galilei: Italian scientist who used a telescope to study Copernicus theory. He was put on trial by the Church for opposing their views

Fun Fact: The Ninja Turtles are named after Renaissance artists: Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo, and Donatello Michelangelo (who painted the Sistine Chapel) became famous after he tried to copy a Greek statue and pass it off as an original.
