AND JAMES L. KNIGHT CONCERT HALL 4-show subscriptions start at $190 MIAMI, FL March 29, 2017 The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County proudly announces the highly-anticipated lineup for the 2017-2018 JOHN S. AND JAMES L. KNIGHT MASTERWORKS SEASON CLASSICAL MUSIC SERIES. The popular, criticallyacclaimed series, which enters its 9th consecutive year, will feature four extraordinary evenings of classical music performed by some of the most celebrated internationally renowned orchestras and performers.

The series opens November 5, 2017 with the return of the ISRAEL PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA, led by the incomparable ZUBIN MEHTA, who recently announced he would be retiring in October 2019. Making their Arsht Center debut on January 17, 2018 is the ROYAL PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA in a program entitled Beethoven and Mozart led by PINCHAS ZUKERMAN. Reigning virtuoso and superstar violinist ITZHAK PERLMAN returns to the Knight Concert Hall Stage with PINCHAS ZUKERMAN, in recital, joined by pianist ROHAN DE SILVA on February 25, 2018. World-renowned cellist YO-YO MA and the Grammy-winning SILK ROAD ENSEMBLE, made up of performers and composers from more than 20 countries, will appear on April 23. We are very excited to present this extraordinary lineup of some of the greatest orchestras and musicians on the planet to our Miami audience on our Stage. The richness of this classical music season is a concert-goers dream come true, said Liz Wallace, vice president of programming at the Arsht Center. CONCERT INFORMATION: ISRAEL PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA Zubin Mehta, conductor November 5, 2017 at 8 p.m. Program: POZNANSKY Footnote, Suite for Orchestra MOZART Symphony No. 36 SCHUBERT Symphony No. 9 The 2017-18 series opens with the ISRAEL PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA led by its legendary conductor ZUBIN MEHTA, who recently announced he would retire in October, 2019 after 50 awe-inspiring years. Founded by Polish violinist Bronislaw Huberman, it is one of Israel s oldest and most influential cultural institutions and since its founding in 1936 has dedicated itself to presenting the world s greatest music to audiences in Israel and around the world. The program features Amit Poznansky s Footnote, originally composed as the score for the 2012 Oscarnominated Best Foreign film Footnote. Symphony No. 36 (Linz Symphony) is a grandly inventive work composed by Mozart in four days in late 1783 when he was 27 years old and Symphony No. 9, known as the Great is the final symphony completed by Franz Schubert. BEETHOVEN & MOZART ROYAL PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA Pinchas Zukerman, conductor and violin January 17, 2018 at 8 p.m. Program: WEBER Der Freischütz Overture MOZART Violin Concerto No. 5 ELGAR Serenade for Strings BEETHOVEN Symphony No. 7 In 2016, the ROYAL PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA (RPO) celebrated 70 years at the forefront of music-making in the UK. Its home base since 2004 at London s Cadogan Hall serves as a springboard for 14 residencies across the country, often in areas where access to live orchestral music is very limited. With a wider reach than any other large UK ensemble, the RPO has truly become Britain s national orchestra. PINCHAS ZUKERMAN has remained a violin phenomenon in the world of music for over 40 years. Over the last decade, he has become equally regarded

as a conductor, leading many of the world's top ensembles in a wide variety of the orchestral repertoire's most demanding works. The program of Beethoven and Mozart includes Carl Maria von Weber's overture to his opera Der Freischütz, one of the most famous nineteenth century works in this form; Mozart s Violin Concerto No. 5, also known as The Turkish ; and Serenade for Strings, one of Elgar s most familiar short orchestral works. Concluding the program is Beethoven s Symphony No.7, which premiered in Vienna in 1813 and is a notable example of the more ebullient side of Beethoven s compositional personality and evidence that, even after the onset of deafness, he found cause for optimism. PERLMAN & ZUKERMAN IN RECITAL Itzhak Perlman, violin Pinchas Zukerman, violin and viola Rohan De Silva, piano February 25, 2018 at 8 p.m. PERLMAN AND ZUKERMAN IN RECITAL undeniably an extraordinary evening of two of the classical music world s most celebrated artists. ITZHAK PERLMAN enjoys superstar status rarely afforded to a classical musician. Beloved for his charm and humanity as well as his talent, he is treasured by audiences throughout the world who respond not only to his remarkable artistry, but also to his infectious joy for making music. Zukerman returns for a second peformance this season, giving Miami audiences an opportunity to experience the virtuoso in recital. Pianist ROHAN DE SILVA s partnerships with violin virtuosos ITZHAK PERLMAN and PINCHAS ZUKERMAN, among many others, have led to highly acclaimed performances at recital venues all over the world. SILK ROAD ENSEMBLE WITH YO-YO MA April 23, 2018 at 8 p.m. World-renowned cellist YO-YO MA and the Grammy-winning SILK ROAD ENSEMBLE bring their collaborative excellence for an exciting evening of world music exploration. Made up of performers and composers from more than 20 countries and lauded as vibrant and virtuosic by The Wall Street Journal, the ensemble encompasses musical traditions from around the globe. Steinway & Sons is dedicated to the ideal of hand-crafting the finest pianos in the world. As a result, the majority of the world's concert pianists of all genres perform exclusively on Steinway & Sons Pianos. In addition, Steinway & Sons pianos are found in the world's greatest homes and estates. In its 158th year,

Steinway & Sons was founded in 1853 by German immigrant Henry Engelhard Steinway in a Manhattan loft on Varick Street. Henry and his sons, C. F. Theodore, Charles, Henry Jr., William, and Albert, developed the modern piano and to this day Steinway continues to perfect their instruments at their famed factory in Astoria, (Queens) New York. They build their pianos one at a time, applying skills that are handed down from master to apprentice, generation after generation. The result is instruments renowned worldwide for their unsurpassed sound and quality. Pianos with such superior sound and responsive touch they enchant not only the most legendary pianists to date, but the most discerning of music lovers.
