Limerick Arts Encounter - New Initiative The Lime Tree Theatre is delighted to be associated with a new initiative to be put in place by Limerick City Council over the next few months which aims to fill the gap in arts programming left by the closure of the Belltable Arts Centre. A programme of events has been planned for September 2013 to March 2014 with funding for its delivery coming from the Arts Council and Limerick City Council. The Lime Tree Theatre will provide the administrative support that artists need to present their work. The events will be presented in venues throughout the city, including the Lime Tree Theatre, the Belltable, Daghdha at St. John s Square, Dr. John s on Thomas Street and others to be confirmed. The important thing is that work by Limerick artists will once again find a platform, greatly enriching the cultural life of the city. Keep up to date with what s happening with this initiative through our web-site www.limetreetheatre.ie Limerick City of Culture 2014 Mary Immaculate College and the Lime Tree Theatre will play a central role in Limerick City of Culture 2014. As plans are still in the making, we cannot release details just yet of the detailed programme. However, plans do include a new play commission from Limerick playwright Mary Coll, a major international exhibition with artists Cleary + Connolly, a children s festival, performances by companies such as Druid, the Abbey, Scottish company Tumult in the Clouds, as well as local and national performing companies, a year-long exhibition of the St. John s Bible from the US (described as the Book of Kells of the 21st century) and the Room 13 Project, where young artists can work and participate with professional artists in a dynamic environment. A programme that engages with children and young people will play an important part in the College s contribution to Limerick City of Culture 2014.
