What specific improvements would you suggest for the Bone Learning Center Computer Lab? 1 help me with writing 2 not sure 3 they do a great job..nice women and student staff 4 More privacy. I don't care to be stared at while I'm working, or having people constantly looking over my shoulder. I'm not saying each computer should be in a separate enclosed room; I would just prefer a divider or something similar so I'm not concerned about being watched by other students the entire time. 5 I do wish at times some people do get noisy. Even though there may not be alot of people at the time i wish they would still ask them to stop. They are normaly good about keeping it quite when several students are here i just wish they would do it at all times! 6 To stop employing only students on work study.they should employ more international students, especially, africans. 7 Pay closer attention to library temperature during season change! 8 The lab is noisy. Lot's of talking and horseplaying. 9 None, i think its very helpful. 10 more computers 11 It would be a good idea in my opinion to have people standing around in the lab area to help students with questions.. 12 more computers 13 would like to see more computers downstaires 14 More room and Computers 15 the upload/download speed has to be increased also readin lab computers get stuck from time to time maybe due to network problem. 16 silence 17 Post specific instructions on the wall 18 More computers for the students to use. When classes reserves the Bone Learning Center computers, we have to go down stair and in most cases those computers are beinging use as well. When you are on campus for a limited time then you have no access to the computers. 19 Nothing 20 new computers/change keyboards 21 A specific improvement I wish to address is the noise level. 22 better temperature regulation 23 update date the computers with microsoft 10 24 A few of the computers should be offered in a more private area. 25 Reinforcing strict regulations on academic studies, rather than leisure computer time, or a designated location for leisure web surfing or social networking. This would aide for other students as they attempt to concentrate on lessons and school related study time, that would not be possible without the Bone Learning Center Computer Lab. Comments: 1 will always use 2 The Lab attendant was very helpful and did not make me feel dumb when I had to ask questions. 3 kilgore college has amasing people working for them 4 Great job! Great place for research! 5 This past year I have enjoyed coming to the library, i love the environment as well as the materials they provide for us!! :) 6 Perfect study zone. 7 I really like coming to the library and studying, haven't been a time that I have come there and ask for help and I get it. Everyone is very helpful. 8 its convinient for studies 9 printing is slow and difficult 10 I wish the library could do something more about the people using their phones at the computers. I have been on during homework and the student next to me is on their phone talking and the attendants do nothing about the student on their phone. 12 I love the library! 13 it will be better if comp lab is used only to study instead of a place to waste time watching videos or listening music. Other comment is that the whole library is extremely cold. That is another reason i dont go often. 14 can u just turn the air down just a little bit in the lab cause u get to sleepy to do ur wrk 15 The Bone Learning Center Computer Lab is a great resource for students that would not other wise not have means for access for the computers. I am very appreciative that I too have a way to complete my homework assignments. 16 Every time I have been to the computer lab I was help in timely manner. What specific improvements would you suggest for the library's information services or resources? 1 Better chairs. The chairs are uncomfortable when sitting for long periods of time. 2 I have recently checked a book out, and the student who checked me out only gave me a week to check out the book. Since I am use to getting two weeks, I turned it back in and had to pay a fine. Please make sure that all employess know how long items are suppose to be checked out so this doesn't happen in the future. 3 Explanation of what information each database contains. Online. 4 Simpler/larger/more obvious signs on the shelves that state what section of the library you're in. I had trouble locating different sections of books (fiction/nonfiction/reference). 5 add more comps downstairs 6 try to have at least one copy of each supplemental reading for every class that has one required 7 Easier database format. 8 The Librarians need to slow down and really explain what the library has to offer. I did not know that there was a recreational reading collection. 9 I would just make it more accessible. 10 Not used library resources enough to comment 12 more card catalog points of, both electronic and on printed cards. better tracking of books. i placed a hold on a book online that I needed for a report. library staff could not locate either of the two copies. 13 they are ok 14 How about an E-mail describing the Library's benifits I.E. cited information in the datab.ase 15 I do not see any specific improvement are needed at this time, except more computers. 16 Nothing 17 A short walk through of how the library works, such as what computers you can use if they are free, and what you have to sign in to use. 18 nothing 19 Continue doing the good job! It is great to walk in and feel welcomed and if you ask for something there is always a positive experience. 20 get more books from christain auther 21 No improvements needed 22 keeping everybody quite 23 Adding the most recent and popular books from authors the students would be more interested in reading for recreation as well. Taking a survey of books that the students would desire to leisurely read, and having them available. This would help less fortunate students that are unable to buy books at local bookstores, this would make the library could be a great and enjoyable source. Comments: 1 The upstairs can be very noisy. Not only the students but the librarians and workers as well. There is an office on the upstairs and the people that work in there talk very loudly. They also use their phone in the office and the conversation can be heard clearly. This was very distracting. They play music in the office and it can also be heard. Librarians (older in age) have been loud and talkative upstairs when I have been trying to study.i shh'ed them several times, but they ignored me and kept talking and laughing with one another. I complained but the young librarian I spoke to said that they work there and nothing was done. 2 I understand the library should be a quiet and calm place, but walking into the library and not really knowing what you're doing or how to find your information can be very intimidating. We're not all used to it, especially at a community college where most of us probably have never done much real studying. It'd be nice to be able to walk in a feel welcome and like my questions are welcome. All I remember about my trips to the library is being kind of lost and feeling helpless. 3 Great job. Would like to see the library promoted more so all students know just how much help it can be. 4 I noticed the newly instated noise policy a few weeks ago. However, I haven't seen it enforced. I would utilize the library more often if the policy should be enforced. I think it should be taken into consideration, though, that noise from the bottom level drifts up to the top level, and that's very distracting when there's too much loud talking on the bottom level. Also, classes that take place on the first floor in the side rooms should be enclosed -- closed door -- because they tend to get much too loud from my experience. 5 love this library. it's my home away from home! 6 I have had a very good experience with the Kilgore College Library and have finished all of my projects with the information needed 7 I did not know these services existed. 8 But when I had to use the library it need fulfill some of my needs but I had to go to the Longview Public Library to fnd everything else that I needed. I really believe I could have found what I needed at KC library if the Librarian would have taken more time to explain the library to me. 9 I have used the online resources for many research papers. It's very helpful and a lifesaver. 10 Atmosphere and decor is drab. I haven't used the Randolph C. Watson library in 20 years, and my recent pursuit of college education has brought me back to the KC library; It appears the library carpet has not been changed out in 20 years. The library is in much need of a more "collegiate" atmosphere. 12 I have always found the librarians helpful. The Student workers are always so nice and always offer to help me and greet me when I come in! 13 its a convenient place for studies 14 Please explain "E" books in a seperate E-mail for us. 15 I have always had a good experience in the Library. I do think that the study areas should be more quiet which means that the Library employees need to tell people who are constantly talking in the study area they need to move. 16 I was very impressed with the presentation on how to use the library. Our entire Surgical Tech class came. When I am doing my own recruitment for Kilgore College I beam with pride to take a potential student into our Library. 17 Fairly helpful for obtaining research material for research papers and essays. 18 I would like to see more books in the library. 19 I have not went in to the library or computer lab. I have only used the online information. Source: KC Survey Prepared by the Office of Research Institutional Effectiveness Page 6 of 6
