Introduction: OPERATIONAL MANUAL This document details the operations of our T-GPS-300 which is a Time Sync Server with capabilities to provide time synchronization outputs through NTP protocols. OVERVIEW: One of the primary necessities in power plants and substations control, supervisory data recorders are time synchronized using a Master Clock system. Time synchronization simplifies the task of fault analysis in the incident of a fault situation event between networks. Time synchronization also increases the accuracy of control decisions by automatic control and protection equipment in the power network, therefore allowing optimal utilization of network assets. Most modern protection Relays and Intelligent Electronic Devices (IED) come fitted with a port to accept a time synchronization signal- NTP Ethernet based synchronization. Sertel provide precise time and frequency signals that keeps time for sophisticated communication systems maintaining accuracies of data to order of micro, nano-seconds. OPERATION: NTP Time Sync Server is connected with power supply and the system runs with high precision OCXO Crystal for frequency. The LCD display time, date and Time zone can be set through a simple user-interface using buttons ENTER, NEXT, INC and then saved internally. Priority Basis for the Input Source: 1. Source: NTP- Signal as Highest Priority as time source 2. Source: Internal Master Clock. The RS232 outputs are also available from the output ports. The statuses of input modes like GPS/ Master Mode are indicated by the corresponding LCD s. GPS Time Sync Server also provides time and date in SERTEL format through RS232 output which is electrically and mechanically standardized to be called as DTE. OUTPUTS: NTP outputs for NTP client access (Default IP: 192.168.1.254). RS232 serial port output in SERTEL format. Alarm signal output for GPS fails indication. LCD displays Time, Date, Time zone, Latitude and Longitude. NTP/SNTP Capabilities: Network Time Protocol (NTP) is TCP/UDP protocol uses Ethernet Time Server for synchronizing the time on computers across a network. A NTP time server is used to obtain the correct time from a time source and adjust the local time in each connecting computer. NTP provides accuracies of between 1 and 50 milliseconds depending on the time source and network paths. Simple Network Time Protocol (SNTP) can be described exactly the same as NTP, the differences can be found in the time synchronization program running on each individual server. SNTP is usually used on preset time of a network to synchronize workstations where the accuracy of NTP is not required. NTP normally uses multiple time servers to verify the time, while SNTP uses just one Ethernet Time Server to calculate the time. The NTP algorithm is much more complicated than the SNTP algorithm. Sertel GPS Time Sync Server is NTP Version 4, which can operate in either unicast (point to point), multicast (point to multipoint) or any cast (multipoint to point) modes. For synchronizing time and date of the system in point to point mode, click on date and time of the system and then a window will pop out and then click on properties and then click on internet time and enter NTP server IP address (192.165.1.254) inside the server box and then click on apply and then close the window, now the system access the server time and date.
