Assembling the Orchestra WOODWINDS BRASS PERCUSSION STRINGS 2010 / 2011 Education Concerts & In- School Ensembles
Assembling the Orchestra BRASS Education Concerts April 6 & April 7, 2011 Many students study the instruments of the orchestra or even attend concerts, but their understanding of classical music and why musicians choose to play in a symphony orchestra is probably still limited. As a result they have trouble relating to classical concerts. In Assembling the Orchestra the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra will demystify the orchestral experience by taking a lively, in depth, look at each instrument family and its unique qualities. Students will explore how each family of instruments contributes to the sound of a full symphony orchestra and why the musicians find it so exciting to play their instruments. The concert will culminate with a boisterous, entertaining performance of Russell Peck s Thrill of the Orchestra. The concerts will be held on Wednesday, April 6 and Thursday, April 7, 2011 at 9:45 and 11:30am at Veterans Memorial Auditorium Arts & Cultural Center, Providence. To register your students, please use the form on page 6. You may also register by calling Rebecca Tingleff, Community Partnerships Coordinator, at 401.248.7054. We will post curriculum guides with activities and lesson plans to prepare students for the performance on the Philharmonic website in February (www.riphil.org).
