In 1976 the idea of Issaquah Singers was hatched over a card table by a few friends who wanted to share the joy of creating music. As when the group first began, auditions are not required for membership. All members, including the director and accompanist, are volunteers, devoting many hours to perform music for those who otherwise would not be able to hear live concerts. Although most of the choir's music is from the height of the vocal jazz era of the 1930's and 1940's, the choir also performs earlier and more recent works--folk songs, rock and roll, Broadway and contemporary popular tunes. Any song that is uplifting and brings a smile is a potential Issaquah Singers tune. The choir is conducted by Dorothy Hay and Susan Lord serves as the accompanist. Issaquah Singers is partially funded by a grant from the City of Issaquah Arts Commission.
