Pembrokeshire Trains, 10 December 2017 19 May 2018 Monday to Friday Trains [unlikely to change much in May] Saturday & Sunday Times change at least twice a year, so are in a separate booklet. Sunday trains are less frequent, often slower, & liable to late changes. Check Sunday details before travelling. On any day, very early or very late trains may be liable to alterations; especially Monday trains before 8am. The MondaySaturday basic patterns for most of the day are: Milford & Haverfordwest line: Every 2 hours to/from Manchester; connect at Cardiff for Paddington [but usually Swansea on the way back] Swansea Paddington trains are ½ hour after the CardiffPaddington [MonFri only] trains. Fishguard line: 6 trains: convenient times out in the morning, back in the evening [large gaps middle of the day]. Some link at Clarbeston Rd with the Milford trains, while others go further one to Manchester! We give the Fishguard & Goodwick Station times; Harbour Station times are about 3 minutes different.. Pembroke & Tenby line: Every 2 hours to & from Swansea, connecting there for Paddington. Some are to / from Manchester [Different on Summer Saturdays, when GWR run a few trains to / from Paddington]. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Where space allows, we have listed late trains from Swansea arriving at Carmarthen ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ The Heart of Wales line. Four trains a day for a slow scenic ride between Llanelli and Shrewsbury via Llandeilo & Llandrindod Wells. Connections at Llanelli for our trains are poor, especially with Milford trains: long waits at Llanelli. North Wales. There are good connections with Manchester trains. Also, trains every 2 hours between Cardiff & Holyhead. N.Wales Coast: usually one change, same platform. Best: Holyhead 1040, to Llanelli 1641; for Milford 1831 England Most Milford trains are to/from Manchester via Cardiff, Newport, Hereford, Ludlow, Shrewsbury, & Crewe. [The Manchester trains are hourly to / from Carmarthen, with alternate ones extended to / from Milford]. Other destinations: mostly change at Cardiff, for Birmingham, some changing at Cheltenham.as well; [But from N & Mid Pembs, good Birmingham connections at Cardiff are usually missed by 1 to 3 minutes]; to Taunton for Devon & Cornwall; and to Portsmouth via Bristol Temple Meads, Salisbury and Southampton. These trains, and the Swansea Paddington trains, give access to the rest of England. Birmingham times are for changing at Cardiff. Some may be quicker via Bristol Parkway Rhoose [Cardiff Airport]: usually change at Bridgend. [c = change at Cardiff instead] Trains leave Bridgend for Cardiff via Rhoose & Barry every hour at xx42 [2 hours on Sunday] A bus meets all trains[except very early and late trains] at Rhoose station: fare 1 [50p children, free OAPs] Times are at the airport, before/after the 6 minute bus ride to/from Rhoose Station. NB: Times on Sunday may change due to main line diversions. Rhoose fares are the same as Bridgend, so the extra 16 miles is free! Most trains from Haverfordwest get you onto the Airport within 3 hours. Other Airports Heathrow: Best option: Paddington train to Reading; bus every half hour to Heathrow. You can also go to Paddington, for a fast costly train to Heathrow; or a slower cheaper service. Gatwick: trains every hour from Reading. Manchester: frequent trains from Manchester Piccadilly. Birmingham: frequent trains from Birmingham New Street. Most people have difficulty reading Rail Timetables. If that includes you, ring 01646 69 27 52 for a personal explanation. Have this Timetable with you. Notes applying to all tables: Italics: times in italics indicate that a change of train is needed for a connecting service. Stations served : All trains between Cardiff and Swansea call at Port Talbot & Neath. All trains [except some Fishguard boat trains] between Llanelli and Carmarthen call at Pembrey&Burry Port. K = Ferryside, and Kidwelly; G = Gowerton; L = Llanharan; P = Pencoed, and Pontyclun; Y = Pyle. Q = Llansamlet, Skewen, Briton Ferry, Baglan, & Pyle; otherwise, change at Swansea for these stations. Change at Bridgend for Maesteg line, Llanharan Pencoed & Pontyclun [if L&P not shown] & Cardiff Airport. For a few trains, 'c' by the Rhoose time shows that you change at Cardiff instead of Bridgend

Do you have difficulty following these Tables? You are not alone! Most people find Rail Timetables hard to understand. Ring 01646 69 27 52 for help in following these. Compiled by D G Watts, 102 Priory Rd, Milford Haven SA73 2ED Printed by Pearce Printers [Viv Hicks], Milford Haven Published by Pembrokeshire Rail Travellers Association. Details are believed to be correct, but no responsibility is accepted for errors [the official timetables contain some!] Suggestions for improvement of these Timetables will be welcome. Thanks to Penny Post Classics for free use of word processor, and Arriva Trains Wales for Fare & Timetable details. All are welcome to copy these details [with acknowledgement to PRTA] e.g. to produce a Welsh Language version Join the Pembrokeshire Rail Travellers Association: it costs 7 p.a [printed] or 5 p.a. [emailed] Send your details to: P Absolon, Taberna Inn, Herbrandston, Milford Haven SA73 3TD. 01646 693 498 Taberna.inn1@btconnect.com. You receive 4 Newsletters, 3 Timetables, & a Fares Booklet each year. The PRTA Committee meets regularly with Arriva Trains Wales management, who have accepted several of our ideas. Thus for journeys beyond Carmarthen, you may now return via a different Pembrokeshire station. It is useful for Tourists walking the coast path; while Neyland people can leave via Pembroke Dock, and return to Johnston or Milford; in N. Pembs, you may go from Fishguard, and return to Haverfordwest; and late night S. Pembs people can come to Milford, Johnston or Clunderwen on a train 2 hours later than on their own line. PRTA has a representative on the Wales committee of Rail Future [The Railway Development Society] which meets every 6 weeks, and has helped us to secure several improvements to our train services. PRTA is also represented on the Traveline Cymru panel; www.traveline.cymru [or 0800 464 00 00]; it gives free details for both trains and buses in Wales; particularly useful if switching from train to bus on a journey. Connections to the rest of Britain [Mon Sat; Sunday trains are much fewer] Most trains to / from Milford & Haverfordwest run thruh Cardiff Central, which is a major rail hub: it has over 30 train departures per hour for most of the day [fewer in evenings and on Sunday]. These include trains to England, and also local services. Most leave at the same times past each hour. Most are run by Arriva Trains Wales [ATW]; others by Gt Western [GW] & CrossCountry [XC] Trains to England, & the N Wales coast: Monday to Saturday, 6am 10pm. You can instead change at Newport [less convenient], as all these trains from Cardiff run thruh Newport. ATW: Hourly: Hereford Ludlow Shrewsbury Crewe & Manchester [most to/from Milford or Carmarthen]. ATW: Every 2 hours: the N.Wales coast & Holyhead. ATW: Every hour or 2 hours: Chepstow, Lydney, Gloucester and Cheltenham. Connections to NE. XC: Hourly: Gloucester, Cheltenham & Birmingham [some to Derby & Nottingham]. Connections to NE. GW: Hourly [2 per hour, most of MonFri] Bristol Parkway, Swindon, Reading & Paddington. GW: Hourly: to Bristol Temple Meads, Bath, Salisbury, Southampton, Portsmouth. GW: Every hour or 2 hours: Bristol T M, Bridgwater, Taunton. Connections for Devon & Cornwall. Local trains to the Valleys [* via Cardiff Queen St], and Barry & Penarth: all ATW 6 per hour*: Pontypridd; of which 2 for the Rhondda, 2 Aberdare, and 2 Merthyr. 4 per hour*: Caerphilly and stations to Bargoed; of which 1 for Rhymney. 2 per hour: N suburbs to Coryton* and W suburbs to Radyr. 4 per hour to Penarth. 4 per hour: Barry, of which 3 are for Barry Island, 1 to Rhoose [Cardiff Airport], Llantwit & Bridgend. 1 per hour: Ebbw Vale via Pye Corner, Rogerstone, Risca, Cross Keys, Newbridge and Llanhilleth. Barry and Penarth trains call at Grangetown, closest station to the new Cardiff City Football Stadium. Other places to change: Bridgend for hourly trains via Llantwit, Rhoose [Cardiff Airport] and Barry to Cardiff; hourly trains via Sarn & Tondu to Maesteg, and via Pencoed, Llanharan, and Pontyclun to Cardiff. Bristol Parkway [on the Paddington line] for Cornwall & Devon, the Midlands, and NE Englan Page 7
