Cereal Box Book Report This month s book report is to create a Cereal Box Book Report. You will need to cover and decorate a real cereal box with illustrations, information, and other interesting facts about your teacher-approved book. Think about what you will name your cereal. Choose a name that sounds enticing and that relates to the story in some way. Then, choose a shape for the cereal, as well as, colors and ingredients that also relate to the book. For example, for Harry Potter and the Sorcerer s Stone, you might invent a cereal called Wizard Wands, a toasted oat cereal in the shape of miniature lightning bolts. Cover an empty cereal box with paper. The next step is to make a rough draft or practice copy of your cover, written information, sketches, and drawings before moving to your final copy on the cereal box. You don t have to draw on the cereal box, you could use paper and then glue them onto the box. Parts of Your Cereal Box Report: Front of the box: Write the name of your cereal and draw a picture to go with it. You might draw characters or other pictures from the book to help sell your product. Make your cereal box neat, appealing, and fun! Look at actual cereal boxes for ideas. Back of the box: Design a game based on your story. It can be a puzzle, word game, or any other fun activity that might be found on the back of a cereal box. Make sure it includes information from the book. Top of the box: Write the title, author, and number of pages. Please remember to rate your book and include reasons why it should get that number of stars. Your ratings explanation needs to have correct punctuation, spelling, and grammar. Left Side: Write a summary of your book. Describe important events, the main problem and the resolution, the solution, of the book. Try to use words that will grab readers attention and make them want to buy your cereal. You can use the attached template or do this your own way. You need to have correct punctuation, spelling, and grammar. Ride Side: Under the heading Ingredients, list the main characters and write a sentence about each one. Then describe the setting. Cereal boxes often include a prize. Your prize must be something the main character could have used in the book or something that reminds you of the main character. Include a picture of the prize on the front of your box and tell the reader how it connects to the main character. Commercial: A 1 to 2 minute commercial for you to sell us your cereal. I use words that grab the readers attention Right Side of my box: I have listed important characters and written a sentence about each of them. I have described important places in my book. I showed a prize. I explained why this prize connects to the main character. Commercial: I turned in a written copy of my commercial. My commercial was 1 to 2 minutes long. During my commercial, I was energetic. I shared exciting elements from the book. I shared why this book would be good for my classmates.

Left Side of Box: Cut out this box and place in on the left side of your cereal box. Top of Box: Cut out this box and place in on the top of your cereal box. Write a summary that describes the main problem and how the problem was solved. Try to use words that will grab the readers attention and make them want to buy your cereal.

Right Side of Box Cut out this box and place in on the right side of your cereal box. Characters: List the main characters and write a sentence about each one. For example, if you were using the story Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, you might include the following characters: Charlie Bucket: He is a poor boy who finds the last golden ticket and wins a trip to Willy Wonka s Chocolate Factory. Willy Wonka: He is the lively owner of the chocolate factory who allows six children and a member of their family to spend a day at his magical factory. Setting: Use complete sentences to tell where the story takes place. You may find that there is more than one setting in the story. For example, if you were using the story Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, you might write: The beginning of the story takes place in Charlie Bucket s very small house that he shares with his large family. Once Charlie finds the golden ticket and wins the contest, the rest of the story takes place in Willy Wonka s amazing chocolate factory. Attach this to the front of your box. Explain what your prize is and how your prize connects to the story. INGREDIENTS CHARACTERS: SETTING:

Name # Cereal Box Book Report Commercial! You will share your project by doing a 1 to 2 minute commercial for your cereal. You will need to practice your commercial at home to be sure of the timing. The goal is to make other students really want to buy your cereal (read your book). Use the following guidelines for writing your commercial: Share exciting elements from the book the problem, important scenes, interesting characters, etc. Be energetic! Try to convince the audience to buy the cereal whether you liked the book or not. Cereal has nutritional value and is good for the body. Tell your classmates why your book would be good for them! (Optional) Be a character from the book to help you sell your product. This sheet is for planning purposes. If you prefer to type up your commercial or write it on index cards, that is fine. You will need to turn in a neatly written or typed copy of your commercial. Your grade on this part of the project will be based on how well you present to the class!
