Borrow it, edit it, rework it!
Introduction What s the mashup? Mashup is everywhere! It is creating a new audiovisual work by remixing, going back, transforming images, replicas and sounds extracted from movies and videos that already exist. The mashupers play with popular culture and images that speak to everyone. Its practice is planetary, has no borders and is accessible to all. Mashup developers are able to recycle everything, but they particularly like to rework hyper-media objects and pop icons to pay tribute to them or to give them new and sometimes subversive meanings. Are you curious to see Darth Vader suing Cary Grant, or David Bowie turning into Bela Lugosi? The Mashup makes it all possible! More and more mashup film makers are raising their voices all over the world. The general public often associates the term "mashup" with fun and playful videos. People are less familiar with those that turn out to be also demanding audiovisual creations which really revolutionize cinematographic language. Mashup creativity comes with a huge popular success! You want an evidence? The most seen French film in the world (30 million views) last year is a mashup: Hell's club, directed by Antonio Maria Da Silva.
Le MashUp Film Festival The fusion of cinema and internet A participative, transmedia and digital festival Initiated at the Forum des Images in 2011, the festival keeps expanding and enriching itself through new proposals which highlight the fusion between cinema and internet. Why is the MashUp Film Festival called participative? We involve the public by setting up creative competitions and real time exchange with stakeholders. Diverse places and structures participate in the organization of the festival. This eclectic approach to audiovisual creation Contemporary is possible because of a cultural, ideological and aesthetic diversity. The main objective of the festival is to bring together cinema and digital-lovers to better understand these creations which now share the silver screen. Of course, the festival also sets itself the objective to create vocations! Why transmedia? Beyond the projections in theaters, the MashUp Film Festival offers the public this opportunity to enjoy the culture of hybridization online, on the internet, and through live through concerts, dance performances or still VJing.
