THE STORY ACTIVITY 4 About the author. Read these sentences about Sir Arthur Connan Doyle s life. Complete them with the appropriate verb. Conan Doyle is most famous as the inventor of Sherlock Holmes, but he (1) a varied career as a writer, journalist and public figure. Arthur Conan Doyle (2) on 22 May 1859 in Edinburgh into a prosperous Irish family. He (3) as a doctor, gaining his degree from Edinburgh University in 1881.
