Woodbury Middle School Wildcat Club 2016/17 General Information: Students are encouraged to participate in Wildcat Club Activities as often as possible, and may join most Wildcat Club Activities anytime. Contact info: Reuben Spinner, Wildcat Club Coordinator espinner@sowashco.org, 651.425.5527 Transportation: Activity bus leaves WMS at 4:20pm, and is only for students participating in activities. Tuesdays and Thursdays: There are no programs or bus transportation on Tuesdays and Thursdays Dates: Start and end dates may vary for specific programs FALL SESSION: October 3 to December 7, 2016 SPRING SESSION: January 9 to May 10, 2017 No clubs or transportation: Oct. 17-21, Nov.26, Jan. 16, Feb. 20, March 13, April 10-14 MONDAY CLUBS Men s Choir (Beginning in April) (M1) Mr. Johnson, Choir Room Join the brotherhood of song in men s choir on Mondays! - Open to all boys 6 th - 8 th grade: choir, band, orchestra; any guy that wants to join! - No auditions - No fees - Meet new friends that also enjoy singing! History & Civics Club (M2) Ms. Swanson, Ms. Bagley, E207 Civics and history club offers a focus this year on the upcoming election with an opportunity to educate our peers on the issues and run a school wide election. We will also focus on great military leaders of history, which culminates in a RISK board game tourney. Finally, we will turn our attention to famous trials in history and end the year preparing for and running our own MOCK TRIAL. Game Club (M3) Mr. Peulen, E203 At game club, we play what you bring! We will run Magic: The Gathering drafters during the year for students that want to learn to play the game. We have board games such as chess, Catan, Ticket to Ride, and Munchkin. We sometimes have DM s running Dungeons and Dragons. Students can bring their phones or other mobile devices and challenge each other to games like Bloons. We welcome new games, too. Come meet other people that want to relax and play games. Monday JAZZ BAND (M4) Ms. O Connor, Band Room Come learn how to play music in jazz styles, such as rock, swing, Latin, ballads, and funk! We will also work on improvising. Please note: This jazz band will be held from 2:30-3:30 p.m. on Mondays. Monday Jazz Band is for the following interested students: 6th grade band students, 7th and 8th grade band students who play non- standard jazz instruments (flutes, oboes, clarinets, French horn), 7th or 8th grade band students who would prefer music that

is a little less challenging, or any 7th or 8th grade band student who can only come on Mondays. Students must already be in band class at school or have approval from Mrs. Sara O Connor, WMS band director. The jazz band will have some performances throughout the year. See Mrs. Sara O Connor for more information and a specific jazz band sign- up form. Math League (M5) Ms. Saindon, F214 Math League is a great way to test your Math skills while having fun competing with other schools. We will compete in five meets throughout the season and the rest of the Mondays will be practicing. This team is limited to 30 participants and the cost is $35 to join. Please complete a blue field trip form outside the counseling office Chamber Orchestra (M6) Ms. Casper, Orchestra Room Can t get enough of orchestra? Looking for more, harder, and fun music to practice?! Join the Chamber Orchestra! Open to all 7 th and 8 th grade students, and 6 th grade students with director approval. You must be in orchestra, or study an orchestra (string) instrument privately to join. The Chamber Orchestra will perform on our regular orchestra concerts. Please get a sign- up form from Ms. Casper Computer Game Club (M7) Ms. Pederson & Ms. Simons, Media Center Do you like to play Minecraft? If you like to play computer games then join Computer Game Club as we explore various games & activities! WEDNESDAY CLUBS Math Tutoring! (W1) Ms. Saindon, F214 Join Ms. Saindon for some Math help. All are welcome. Come get some extra support on your math! Math Mania (W2) Ms. Meyer, E200 Math Mania is a time for students in Ms. Meyer s math classes to receive extra support, work on retests, play math games, gain confidence in math, memorize math facts, review previous concepts, study for tests, eat treats, and ROCK THE MCAs!! Computer Game Club (W3) Ms. Pederson & Ms. Simons, Media Center Do you like to play Minecraft? If you like to play computer games then join Computer Game Club as we explore various games & activities! Art Club (W4) Ms. Shaw Wright, D124 After school art to build skill, knowledge, social skills, experience with different art forms and media in self directed ways.

Women s Choir (Beginning in April) (W5) Mr. Johnson, Choir Room Join the Sisterhood of song in women s choir on Wednesdays! - Open to all girls 6 th - 8 th grade: choir, band, orchestra; anyone that wants to join! - No auditions - No fees - Meet new friends that also enjoy singing! History Day Extra Help Sessions & Competition Coaching (W6) Ms. Bagley, A107 Students are welcome to attend History Day help sessions, which will be held after school on Wednesdays starting in November, 2016. Additionally help will also be given to those who wish to participate in the competition cycle of History Day. All students in grades 6-8 who attend the help session will get coaching and assistance in preparing their project and/or the optional competition cycle. Musicology (W7) Mr. Jordan, B114 Students will learn to write creatively and to personalize songs through examination of their own life- experiences. They will also learn how to research and apply current and historical events to their own place in this world. Most importantly students will learn to collaborate with one another, to give and receive constructive criticism and to build confidence through sharing new creations. No previous music experience is necessary. Wednesday JAZZ BAND (W8) Ms. O Connor, Band Room Come learn how to play music in jazz styles, such as rock, swing, Latin, ballads, and funk! We will also work on improvising. Please note: This jazz band will be held from 2:30-3:30 p.m. on Wednesdays. Wednesday Jazz Band is for the following interested students: 8th grade band students who play standard jazz instruments or bass instruments (trumpet, saxophone, trombone/baritone/tuba, percussion, piano, bass, guitar), 7th grade band students who play standard jazz instruments or bass instruments who would prefer music that is a little more challenging. Students must already be in band class at school or have approval from Mrs. Sara O Connor, WMS band director. The jazz band will have some performances throughout the year. See Mrs. Sara O Connor for more information and a specific jazz band sign- up form. Whatever (W9) Mrs. Hinz, A101 Avalanche House Students: Get whatever help you need (time, tutoring, computer access) to complete whatever assignment or prepare for whatever test for whatever class.
