Useful Tools Milliamp Meter Recommended Model: Armada Pro 93 As-Built Drawing If you don t have it, make it using a cale locator Wire Stripper For video showing proper wire splice instructions and other installation tips, please visit: www.rainird.com/landscape/ products/controllers/esp-lxd.htm LXD Trouleshooting Tools Like the one you are holding in your hands We recommend using: Rain Bird MAXI Cale as your 2-Wire communications cale. Rain Bird DBR/Y splice kits for ALL electrical wiring connections. Milliamp Meter Wire Stripper TE: If installing or repairing communications wiring for IQ Software, do not install the communications cales in the same conduit as the 2-Wire path wiring. TE: Rain Bird HV, DV, and JTV Series residential valves are not compatile with ESP- LXD decoders. Use only Rain Bird commercial series valves for ESP- LXD installations: PGA Series www.rainird.com/landscape/products/valves/pgaseries.htm PEB Series www.rainird.com/landscape/products/valves/peb_ PESBseries.htm EFB-CP Series www.rainird.com/landscape/products/valves/efb- CP.htm BPE Series www.rainird.com/landscape/products/valves/bpes.htm A list of ESP-LXD Controller Trouleshooting Videos can e found here: ESP-LXD Controller Trouleshooting www.youtue.com/playlist?list=plkh- 77cPRcpnuhsym3t_NUjAqLu1G-9He 4 5

Short Finding Mode Short Finding Mode cont. The controller has automatically entered Short Finding Mode to protect itself against a short on the 2-wire path Turn the dial to Test All Stations / Check Systems Press the Down Arrow utton to select 2-wire Diagnostic, then press Next Press the Down Arrow utton to select Line Survey, then press Next The Line Survey screen is displayed TE: The Voltage1 reading for a normal healthy system is typically in the +14.0 to +16.0 range for oth A and B. The Voltage 2 reading is typically in the -20.0 to -21.0 range for oth A and B. The Voltage1 and Voltage2 readings should e approx. equal for A and B. Milliamperage (ma) varies with the numer of decoders installed and should e approx. equal to the amperage calculations detailed on page 16. The display reads Temp OK, Current Not OK and Overload Not OK. This indicates a dead short in the 2-wire path. Temp could also show Not OK. Open the front panel and check the two inidicator lights on the ESP-LXD-M50 module. The top indicator light should e green and the ottom indicator light should e dark. This indicates that the controller put the module in Short Finding Mode Disconnect the second/ third/fourth 2-wire path If there are more than one 2-wire paths connected, disconnect the first 2-wire path TE: In looped systems, cut the loop in the middle to create two independent paths. Did the controller exit Short Finding Mode and are oth Indicator Lights illuminated? Reconnect the Maxi-Cale to verify the controller goes ack into Short Finding Mode 12 13

Short Finding Mode cont. Short Finding Mode cont. Reconnect the Maxi-Cale to verify the controller goes ack into Short Finding Mode Connect all 2-wire paths at the controller and oserve screen Check the controller display to see if it has exited Short Finding Mode Repair damaged Maxi-Cale using Maxi Cale and DRBY connectors Walk the length of the 2-wire path and look for signs of recent constructions (trenching, new fence, sign, tree, etc.) Wires damaged, or found repairs of the Maxi-Cale? What does the display show? Go ack to Trouleshooting, page 10 The prolem is downstream etween this point and the end of the 2-wire path Re-connect the 2-wire path and go to a decoder approx. 50% etween this point and the end of the 2-wire path. Disconnect the decoder 2-wire splice to disconnect the second half of the 2-wire path. The prolem is upstream etween this point and the controller Re-connect the 2-wire path and go to a decoder approx. 50% etween this point and the controller. Disconnect the decoder 2-wire splice to disconnect the second half of the 2-wire path. Go to a decoder approx. 50% the length of the 2-wire path. Disconnect the decoder 2-wire splice to disconnect the second half of the 2-wire path. TE: Instead of physically disconnecting the 2-wire path, you could instead use a clamp meter. See page 16. For video instructions on Automatic Short Finding Mode, please visit: https://youtu.e/khfodrfuoxs 14 15

Short Finding Mode cont. Alternatively, if you have a clamp meter you can also measure the amperage: TE: Before measuring the amperage, calculate the approximate current that the 2-wire path is consuming. System Amperage Calculation Quantity of single address station decoders X 0.5 ma + Quantity of multiple address decoders X 1.0 ma + Quantity of active decoders X 17.5 ma + Quantity of other SD210 decoders X 8.0 ma = Approximate total system amperage in ma * Single address station decoders include the FD-101 and FD-102 decoders ** Multiple address station decoders include the FD-202, FD-401 and FD-601 decoders For video instructions on Locating a Short on the Two-Wire Path, please visit: https://youtu.e/6qdx-0k0ac0 Duplicate Decoder Address The controller will Alarm if duplicate decoder addresses are entered for one or more weather sensors, flow sensors or station decoders. TE: Only the first two duplicates will e shown, so you may need to repeat this process until all of the duplicate have addressed. Enter a different decoder address for one of the decoders Go to page 11 and follow the Basic Programming Wizards: Station Setup to enter the correct decoder address Test LXD system using Manual Run or Auto Run Check the display for Alarms, see page 10 Trouleshooting Is the LXD and installation working? END - Jo Well Done! 16 17

The Voltage1 and Voltage2 readings should e approx. equal for A and B. Milliamperage (ma) varies with the numer of decoders installed and should e approx. equal to the amperage calculations detailed on page 16. The display reads Temp OK, Current Not OK and Overload OK. This indicates a possile short in the 2-wire path or one or more misconfigured decoders. A Not OK Overload flag can e caused y a dead short. See page 13 Short Finding Mode and follow the steps starting with: Open the front panel/face plate and check the two indicator lights on the ESP-LXD-M50 module. Press Next to ping station decoders Turn the dial to Test All Stations / Check Systems TE: A good ping test will show values for prior, inrush and holding current. The LXD front panel Alarm Light will turn off. Select Ping and wait for the result of the ping test to display Inrush current is typically less than 200 ma. Readings of 100 ma or less indicates an open output. Holding current is typically 10mA. Reading of 50 ma or greater typically indicates a shorted decoder output. Press Yes to proceed, then press the + and - uttons to select the station numer on the next screen Press Yes to proceed, then press the + and - uttons to select the station numer on the next screen Check the wires and fix an open or short circuit Is there still a prolem with this station? The controller will indicate whether there is an open or short circuit. Is the Alarm Light still on? Prior amperage is ased on line current for your system and should e aout the same as the calculated System Amperage on Short Finding Mode 5 on page 16 For video instructions on Using Decoder Test & Ping Decoders to Trouleshoot Valves, please visit: https://youtu.e/wkzbabo08w0 END - Jo Well Done! 26 27
