WALK Sculpture Walk Jax 2014 Exhibitin and Cmpetitin Entry Frm Temprary Outdr Sculpture Exhibitin Main Street Park, Jacksnville, FL 2014 Sculpture Walk Jax Sculpture Walk Jax, in its inaugural year, is a temprary utdr sculpture exhibitin in dwntwn Jacksnville. This prject is spnsred by a Spark Grant funded by the Cultural Cuncil f Greater Jacksnville. Sculpture Walk Jax is a juried exhibitin f large-scale utdr sculptures created by exceptinal artists frm the regin and thrughut the United States. Marsha Pels will act as the jurr fr the 2014 exhibitin. The Call fr Artist Entries welcmes applicatins frm artists. The 2014 exhibitin will feature up t ten large-scale sculptures. Abut Main Street Park The selected wrks will be exhibited in the Spark District within Main Street Park at 325 Nrth Main Street, Jacksnville, FL 32202 a public art prject n city prperty. The park is situated a few blcks frm St. Jhns River, clse t the Atlantic Ocean, near a naval base, and behind the City Public Library and Museum f Cntemprary Art. The park is near a majr bridge and bunded by three streets, ne f which is a majr thrughfare. Exhibitin Guidelines: 1. Sculpture Walk is pen t artists 18 years f age r lder residing in the US. Sculptrs may enter three cmpleted wrks (tw views f each wrk fr a ttal f six images). All wrks entered must have been created in the last five years and nt previusly exhibited in Sculpture Walk. 2. Up t 10 wrks will be chsen fr installatin in Main Street Park. The selected wrks will be exhibited frm September 2014 September 2015. 3. Wrk must be suitable fr utdr installatin: a) must be capable f withstanding adverse weather cnditins (high winds, hurricanes); b) must withstand high traffic envirnment; c) and shuld take int cnsideratin the safety f the audience. Art must be installatin-ready. Sculptural wrks which require electrical cmpnents must be installatin ready and suitable t the utdr envirnment. The artwrk must be able t withstand public interactin. Artist will accept respnsibility fr the lss r damage f the sculpture. 4. Wrks may be fr sale but must remain n exhibitin fr the duratin f the exhibitin. 5. The Sculpture Walk Exhibitin will pen t the public Friday, September 12, 2014 @ 6 pm with a Sculpture Tur and Grand Opening Ceremny in cnjunctin with the Cnnectin Festival (www.cnnectinfestival.cm). The artist is respnsible fr timely delivery/pickup f the artwrk within scheduled dates. Any additinal cst incurred by Sculpture Walk due t untimely delivery/pickup will be deducted frm the 2nd installment f the artist stipend. Artwrk that is accepted is subject t inspectin and may be withheld frm the exhibitin at Sculpture Walk s discretin. Sculpture Walk will prvide equipment and assistance in securing the wrks n site. The artists are respnsible fr shipping and delivering the wrks t and frm the installatin site. Artists unable t meet the scheduled installatin and remval requirements are nt eligible. 6. Sculpture Walk reserves the right t phtgraph and vide any submitted wrk fr dcumentary, educatinal, and publicity purpses. Artist will retain cpyright. 7. Receipt f the cmpleted applicatin frm cnstitutes yur agreement with all cnditins established in the prspectus. Criteria: Wrks f any subject and medium may be submitted. Wrks shuld be designed t fit n a 4 x 4 x 8 thick cncrete slab. Wrks may include a light feature. There are a few available utlets in the park. Wrks may be interactive. One larger wrk will g at the entrance f the park (see attached pht). This wrk shuld be designed t fit n a 7 diameter circular cncrete slab. Stipend: All finalists whse wrks are installed will receive a stipend f $1,000 per sculpture $500 upn delivery t the site and Sculpture Walk 1/6
$500 upn remval. The sculptures that are sld during the exhibitin will be delivered by Sculpture Walk t the buyer at the clse f the exhibitin and there will nt be a $500 remval stipend awarded t artists n thse sld sculptures. Entry Prcedure: Submit applicatin and pay entry fee n the entry frm belw. Please be sure t submit yur current resume and ne paragraph artist statement in the apprpriate areas. The nn-refundable entry fee is $40.00 per applicatin (may submit up t three wrks per applicatin). Please submit payment via PayPal. JUROR Marsha Pels f NY is internatinally knwn fr sculpture which includes a range f labr-intensive cast and fabricated bjects, multi-media installatin and utdr site-specific pieces. Her wrk explres the transfrmatin f fund bjects in a variety f materials. Pels defines spaces within site-specific cntexts in rder t create petically and smetimes plitically charged psychlgical landscapes. She has wn numerus awards including a 1981 Public Art Fund Grant, a Prix de Rme in 1984, a Fullbright Senir Schlar award t Germany in 1997, a Pllck-Krasner Fundatin grant in 2004, and mst recently, a 2013 Adlf and Esther Gttlieb Fundatin Individual Supprt Grant.
