QUICK START GUIDE
Welcome to your V pro8 FIRST STEPS POWERING ON CONNECTING YOUR COMPUTER Thank you for buying the Lawo V pro8, a true high-quality product developed and manufactured in Rastatt, Germany. This quick start guide will help you setup, connect and control the V pro8 from your computer s web browser interface. Before installing and using the device, we recommend you read all the safety and operating instructions in the user manual. The attached USB card includes the complete user manual, as well as additional information on the Lawo product portfolio. For more information and regular updates, please register at www.lawo.com/user-registration. Packing List your shipping box includes V_pro8 unit Two IEC power cables (country-specific) Two 19 rack-mounting brackets for the frame (optional) Two SFP Optical Fibre Transceivers for the MADI ports(front or rear) The V fp1 hardware control panel (optional) The V_pro8 Quick Start Guide and USB card (containing all documentation). Unpack and check the contents of the shipping box. A packing list is included in this document. Fit the optical fibre SFP transceivers to either the front or rear MADI ports as required. To install, push each transceiver into the rectangular MADI slot. Press gently and firmly until the transceiver locks into position. Note that the SFP cages on the rear MADI ports are mounted upside down. Please unlock the transceiver before removal to avoid mechanical damage. If your unit is delivered with the optional hard key control panel, then please follow the installation instructions, in the user manual, to mount the panel. The option provides video previewing, audio monitoring and menu access directly from the V pro8 front panel. To rack-mount the unit, fix the rack-mounting brackets to the front of the chassis. Then attach to a standard 19 equipment rack. Please install supporting bars to hold the weight of the unit, and make sure that all connectors, front and rear, are accessible. Alternatively, lay the unit on a flat, horizontal surface. Take care not to obstruct the ventilation holes on the left and right of the frame. Connect the AC POWER IN, on the rear panel, to your mains supply using the IEC power cables provided. The power connectors include an IEC locking mechanism. Please unlock the connector properly before removing a power cable. The V pro8 has no on/off switch, and starts once power is applied. Boot-up takes around ten seconds, and loads the latest settings. Only one power connection is required for operation; the second provides redundancy. The PSU LEDs, on the front panel, indicate the supply status: GREEN = PSU active. To confirm that the unit is operating correctly, check the STATUS LED on the front panel: Blue = unit is booting. Flashing GREEN = ready for operation. Flashing Yellow = network activity. Flashing Blue or Red = system error. Try a power cycle. If the problem persists, please contact service@lawo.com Multiple units can be networked by installing an Ethernet hub or switch. For simplicity, this guide describes a direct connection. Please ensure that your computer meets the minimum system requirements (100 Base-TX LAN port; HTML5 capable web browser). For best performance, use the latest revision of your web browser, and a screen resolution > 1440 x 900 to view the user interface without scrolling or scaling. Using a standard Ethernet cable, connect your computer to one of the LAN ports on the rear panel: Cable Type: straight (1:1) or crossed Ethernet cable. Connector Type: RJ45. Network Speed: 100 or 1000 Base-TX LAN.
TCP/IP CONFIGURATION STARTING A BROWSER SESSION SIGNAL CONNECTIONS Configure the TCP/IP settings of your computer s network interface card as follows: IP address: in the same range as that of the V pro8 LAN port (default IP Address for LAN 1=192.168.123.73; LAN 2 = 192.168.123.74). Subnet mask: identical to that of the V pro8 LAN port (default Subnet Mask = 255.255.255.0). Default gateway: identical to that of the V pro8 LAN port (default = 0.0.0.0). Press the DEF-IP button, quickly, to display the unit s TCP/IP settings via the MV (MultiView) OUT. Or, press and hold the DEF-IP button, until the STATUS LED turns white, to reset the TCP/IP settings to the factory defaults. So, if the V pro8 is set to the factory default TCP/IP settings, adjust your computer s IP address and subnet mask to: IP address = 192.168.123.100 Subnet mask = 255.255.255.0 The following screenshots demonstrate how to configure a network card s TCP/IP settings in Windows 7 and Mac OS X: Windows Open your browser software and enter the IP address of the appropriate V pro8 LAN port into the URL field. For example, if connecting to LAN 1, you would type: http://192.168.12.73 (if using the default IP address). Press ENTER the browser connects and the login screen appears. If you have video signals connected, then you will see thumbnails for the SDI outputs 1 to 8 at the bottom of the screen. If no video signals are present, then the thumbnails are blank. If the login screen does not appear, then check the following: URL address: this must match the IP address of the V pro8 LAN port to which you are connected, either LAN 1 (default = 192.168.123.73) or LAN 2 (default = 192.168.123.74). Click on the Login button the user interface opens and you will see the main menus. If the login fails, then check that the Java Script and Websocket options are enabled in the browser settings. Once you have established communication, use the Settings -> Software Update menu to check the revision of the V pro8 and, if necessary, perform an update. Connect the remaining video, audio and reference signals, and use the Timing -> Timing Pos menu to configure the reference settings. Reference options include Tri-Level Sync, Black-Burst, any SDI input (1 to 8) or internal sync. 8 x SDI IN and 8 x SDI OUT (BNC): each carries 1 video + 16 embedded audio. MV Out (BNC or Display Port): use this output to connect an external display for local Quad Split monitoring. You may monitor any 4 SDI inputs or outputs simultaneously (defined in the Quad Split menu). An overlay, showing information about the V pro8, appears briefly when you press the DEF-IP button. 2 x MADI in/out (optical fibre via SFP modules): each carries 64 input + 64 output audio. The front and rear MADI ports operate in redundant mode. The port s LED indicates the link status: GREEN = valid; flashing RED = asynchronous; OFF = invalid or no signal. REF IN (BNC): use this input to connect an external video reference signal. The REF IN accepts Tri-Level Sync or Black- Burst. The input should be terminated by fitting a 75-ohm terminator to the LOOP output (if unused), or the LOOP THRU of the last looped device. REF LOOP (BNC): this output provides a passive loop-thru of the REF IN (75-ohm termination recommended). REF OUT (BNC): use this output to feed the video reference, defined in the Timing menu, to an external device. WK (BNC): provides either a wordclock input (75-ohm termination recommended) or wordclock output, as defined in the Timing -> Timing Pos menu. Network connection: check the physical connection. In particular, that you are using the correct LAN port. Mac OS X TCP/IP configuration: the settings of your computer s network interface card must be in the same IP range as the V pro8 LAN port. Firewall or Antivirus: some software may interfere with web browser communication. Try disabling your firewall and antivirus to eliminate them as the cause of the problem. You can find further information at www.microsoft.com or www.apple.com.
