BANDS (ROCK/POP) INTRODUCTION TO ADULT ROCK BAND (Ages 18+) Mondays 6:30-7:30pm Instructor: Tom Osuna Mondays, May 2 to June 27 from 6:30-7:30pm (No class on Memorial Day, May 30) Have you ever wanted to learn how to play in a rock band but never got around to it? Now is the time to check off that bucket list and do it! We ll break apart and put back together some great classic rock tunes and grooves and have a great time learning the building blocks of making great music. Open to beginning/intermediate adult players 18 and up to drums, guitar, bass players and vocalists. BANDS (ROCK/POP) THE MINORITIES ROCK BAND (Ages 14-17) Tuesdays 7-8pm Instructor: Michael Campagna Tuesdays, May 3 to June 21 from 7:00-8:00pm This exciting Girls Rock Lab Band is open to singers, guitarists, bass players, keyboard players and drummers with at least 2 years of playing experience. Students learn what it takes to sing and play in a band, including how to choose their own rock and pop songs. This band performs in a concert at the end of the session for friends and family. BANDS (ROCK/POP) DAY GIG ADULTS ROCK BAND (Ages 18+) Tuesdays 8-10pm Instructor: Michael Campagna Tuesdays, May 3 to June 21 from 8:00-10:00pm $170 for the 8-week session Day Gig Adults Rock Band is an intensive rock music program for advanced players ages 18 and up. This group plays everything from the classic rock period up until the 90s period. Most of the members in this band love music with a passion, but have separate day jobs, hence Day Gig. This band performs in a concert at the end of the session and also plays publicly in professional gigs. 1
VOICE VOCAL A CAPPELLA ENSEMBLE (Ages 16+) Wednesdays 7:30-8:30pm Instructor: Alina Roitstein Wednesdays, May 4 to June 22 from 7:30-8:30pm $128 for SPMCC students $140 for non-spmcc students We are forming a new vocal ensemble! The group will consist of adults and teenagers, and will begin with a cappella arrangements of jazz and pop songs. As we get further along, we will choose new songs together! Singing in a group is one of the most satisfying experiences, and can open up your voice and confidence in a wonderful and enjoyable way! MUSIC PRODUCTION LOGIC PRO MUSIC PRODUCTION CLASS (Ages 11+) Thursdays 4-5pm Instructor: Oscar Schedin Thursdays, May 5 to June 23 from 4-5pm * Logic Pro Music Production Class is a music technology class for students ages 11+ who want to dive into the fun and creative world of computerbased music composition. Students learn how to create their own original songs or instrumental compositions using Apple s music software program Logic X. By the end of the 8-week session, each student will have composed and produced their own song or instrumental composition. Midi keyboards are provided by SPMCC. *Students must bring their own notebook computers with Logic X Installed. BANDS (ROCK/POP) KIDS ROCK LAB BAND (Ages 9-15) Thursdays 7-8pm Instructor: Michael Campagna Thursdays, May 5 to June 23 from 7:00-8:00pm Kids Rock Lab Band is an intensive rock music program for players ages 9-15 with at least 6 months of playing experience. Organized into ageappropriate rock bands (guitars, bass, drums, keyboard, horns and vocals), groups will be coached in learning well-known rock songs of their choice. This band performs in a concert at the end of the session for friends and family. EARLY CHILDHOOD EARLY CHILDHOOD MUSIC AND MOVEMENT (Ages 1-2) Fridays 12:00-12:45pm Instructor: Dr. Kimberly Kilmer Fridays, May 6 from 12:00-12:45pm (No class on June 15) A music and movement class full of singing, drumming, shaking and dancing. Explore and experience music through a variety of styles and genres of music. Share the joy of music-making and learning with your child! Parent or caregiver participation required. EARLY CHILDHOOD EARLY CHILDHOOD MUSIC AND MOVEMENT (Ages 3-4) Fridays 1:00-1:45pm Instructor: Dr. Kimberly Kilmer Fridays, May 6 from 1:00-1:45pm (No class on June 15) Preschoolers will explore and experience music through a variety of styles and genres of music. They will use their imaginations to learn about singing, rhythm, movement, pulse and instrument-playing through music and movement. 3
EARLY CHILDHOOD EARLY CHILDHOOD MUSIC AND MOVEMENT (Ages 5-6) Fridays 2:00-2:45pm Instructor: Dr. Kimberly Kilmer Fridays, May 6 to June 29 from 2:00-2:45pm (No class on June 15) This class prepares students for private lessons. The students will continue to explore and experience music through a variety of styles and genres of music. Focusing on developing singing, rhythm, notation, improvisation and instrument playing. STRINGS YOUNG VIRTUOSO STRINGS YVS Ensemble (Ages 11-14) Saturdays 8:00-10:00am Instructor: Dr. Yvette Devereaux TBA, in the Fall This group consist of students who show true virtuosity as string players. All students have played standard classical repertoire (Bach and Vivaldi Concertos) in their everyday training and now wish to take their virtuosity to another level. There are no other string groups in Southern California where students choose their favorite pop, jazz, rock, electronic, and/or hip hop songs and then recreate the works on their violins, violas, and cellos. These students come together once a week for eight-week-sessions and play music. They also engage and talk about music history, music theory, and more! Requirements: All students must be able to play all major and minor scales (2-3 octaves), play and read intricate rhythms (syncopation, etc.); currently take private lessons, and have the desire to perform all styles of music. 4
BANDS (ROCK/POP) THE BEATLES PROJECT (Ages 9-16) Saturdays 3:00-4:30pm Instructor: Michael Campagna Saturdays, May 7 to June 25 from 3:30-5:00pm The Beatles Project is a group ensemble lead by Michael Campagna for kids between ages 9-16 with at least 6 months of playing experience. Students will choose Beatles songs and learn the original compositions. There will be a concert at the end of each session where groups perform their songs in front of friends and family. The Beatles project commonly has other performance opportunities as well. STRINGS CHILDREN S STRING ORCHESTRA (Ages 6-12) Saturdays TBA Instructor: Dr. Yvette Devereaux Fall, time TBA Enhance your child s beginning string lessons with a fun and social ensemble activity. Students learn how to perform and work with other string students their age as well as learn how to perform in a group with a conductor. STRINGS STRING ENSEMBLE FOR TEENS AND ABOVE (Ages 13+) Saturdays TBA Instructor: Dr. Yvette Devereaux TBA Teens and adults have the opportunity to play all styles of music along with playing with a rhythm section. This class is for students ages 13 and up who have had at least one year of music instruction. Guitar, violin, viola, cello, double bass, piano, and percussion students are all welcome. 5
