The eight piece band features rap vocals out of Gil Scott Heron s book, laid back pyschedelia, turntablists, heavy funk beats, and a punchy, soulful horn section. One of the hottest club bands in the country. 10PM-MIDNIGHT RAMSAY HALL, Venue 4, 8, ( 6 conc) Anders Bergcrantz Quartet * Bergcrantz is a trumpeting phenomenon. He s got the fire and passion of Dizzy Gillespie, the chops of Freddie Hubbard, and the subtlety of Miles. He s one of the few European musicians who have cracked the New York establishment, playing bebop and beyond. The bright young star of the Scottish jazz scene plays alto sax with power, intellect and aplomb. She s also writing very sophisticated and appealing music. First time in Islay! 1-3PM WHITE HART HOTEL, Venue 6, 5 light lunches available 9 11 Haftor Medbøe Mini Group 10 Ken Peplowski plays Monk featuring Anders Bergcrantz * Scottish Jazz All Stars Following in the footsteps of the great Scottish traditional jazz groups of the 50 s and 60 s like the Clyde Valley Stompers and The Clansman, Forrie Cairns and Fionna Duncan, both ex-members of those groups front an amazing assemblage of classic jazz talent playing New Orleans and traditional jazz. 7.30-9.30PM BRUICHLADDICH HALL, Venue 2, 10 ( 8 conc) The American reedsman and the Swedish trumpeter celebrate the music of one of the great jazz originals: Thelonious Monk. Imagine Miles, Hancock, Rollins with a big swinging rhythm section. Venues We use all sorts of venues on Islay. There are generally no foyers and limited facilities some venues are even private homes but all have masses of character.
