Ensure the current of the LED module is resistor suppressed. If electrolytic capacitors, rectifier circuits, etc. are included in the LED module's circuit the waveform will deteriorate and the Light ID signal will not be sent correctly. Ensure an input of 13 V / 26 V. Total power for LED modules must not exceed 60 W per modulator. The light ID system is not suitable for use with LED modules with features for controlling light emissions such as CCT change or dimming change or dimming are not suitable for the Light ID system. Connection wires range between 0.75 mm² and 1.4 mm². The ID may not work in the event of wiring-induced losses If using non non-approved LED modules, please ensure the absolute maximum parameters of the module and the individual LEDs are not exceeded ID Register In order to use a light ID, the modulator needs to be registered. The ID forms part of the QR code on the label. Go to https://panasonic.net/cns/linkray/ for more information on Panasonic's light ID service. LinkRay Application Panasonic has prepared a standard app (LinkRay Light ID Solution) for use with ios and Android systems. This app can be downloaded to a smartphone or tablet for free. Also, Panasonic provides an SDK (Software Development Kit) which can work with the standard app and customers' apps. Basic requirements for compatible LED converters SELV Urated: 12 V / 24 V Pmax.: 60 W without using sync function The LED converter must comply with the approval requirements of any light ID modifications No PWM dimming LinkRay-Modulator-CV_186755_EN 3/6 03/2018 Supported operation systems Most ios 8.0 systems and later Most Android 5.0 systems and later Even if a device satisfies the specifications, some may not work. For the latest information on confirmed devices, please visit the Panasonic LinkRay website. 3
Light ID signal The light ID signal is a 4PPM (Four Pulse Position Modulation). Convertion of two sets of data into a fou-.digit signal (4-PPM) The coded signal consists of three 0s and one 1 The light output of the LEDs will be divided into four slots The LED light output is divided into 4 time-slots, consisting of three "1s" (light on) and one "0" (light off). As a result of this 4PPM, the light output is decreased by 25%, compared to an ordinary light source If light output compensation is required, please contact your VS representative CAUTION: stress will be placed on the power supply (LED converter) since the modulator repeats the ON/OFF current at fast speed Synchronisation leads If the total power consumption of the LED modules exceeds 60 W and/or are using multiple power sources, please send the same light ID signal by synchronising the light ID modulators. In order to understand how the wiring is performed, please see the diagrams in the synchronisation chapter. LinkRay-Modulator-CV_186755_EN 4/6 03/2018 4
Assembly and Safety Information Installation must be carried out under observation of the relevant regulations and standards. Installation must be carried out in a voltage-free state (i.e. disconnection from the mains). The following advice must be observed; non-observance can result in the destruction of the light ID modulator, fire and/or other hazards. Mandatory regulations DIN VDE 0100 EN 60598-1 Mechanical mounting Built-in mounting position: Any position inside a luminaire or lighting display is permissible. Independent application: Light ID modulators are not suitable for use as independent applications. Mounting location: Light ID modulators are designed for integration into luminaires or comparable devices like lighting displays. Please do not use the modulator in places with direct sunlight, high moist, rain, vibrations or combustible gas. Installation in outdoor luminaires: degree of protection for luminaires with water protection rate 4 (e.g. IP54 required). Degree of protection: IP20 Clearance: Min. 0.10 m from walls, ceilings and insulation. When placing multiple modulators in close proximity from each other, please ensure there is at clearance of at east 25.4 mm end to end or 101.6 mm side to side in between the modulators to avoid overheating and product failure. Surface: A solid and plane surface is required for optimum heat dissipation. Heat transfer: If the light ID modulator is destined for installation in a luminaire, sufficient heat transfer must be ensured between the light ID modulator and the luminaire casing. LED light ID modulators should be mounted with the greatest possible clearance to heat sources. During operation, the temperature measured at the light ID modulator's tc point must not exceed the specified maximum value. Fastening: Using M4 screws in the designated holes Tightening torque: 0.2 Nm CAUTION: Do not remove the waterproofing caps of the synchronisation leads if not synchronising the ID signal. Wiring: The input conductor within the luminaire must be kept short. Input and output conductors should be kept separate and if possible should not be laid parallel to one another. Input wire length: max. 0.5 m Output wire length: max. 1.4 m Polarity: Please ensure the correct polarity of the leads prior to commissioning. Reversed polarity can destroy the modulator. Wiring diagrams: For one LED converter and one light ID modulator Please make the connections correctly based on the diagram. The modulator may be destroyed if the polarity of the converter's output and the modulator's input is incorrect. This is also the case regarding the connections between the modulator and the LED module. For one LED converter and two light ID modulators without synchronisation = two different IDs (f.e. two-sided sign) LinkRay-Modulator-CV_186755_EN 5/6 03/2018 Electrical installation Stripped lead ends: Length of 8.5 10 mm Sleeves for lead ends: Please use a connection terminal or crimp ring sleeve during installation. After the connection has been made, insulate the connection with insulation tape. 5
Synchronisation Synchronisation will be required if the power consumption of the LED modules exceeds 60 W. The max. number of synchronisation connections: 9 modulators When multiple modulators are synchronised, the ID of the first modulator will be shared. Do not remove the waterproofing caps for the first and last modulators in the chain. Please use the designated cables to make extension connections. Synchronisation connections when using multiple LED converters and modulators: For up to 5 light ID modulators Signal reception performance for light ID Depending on the criteria below, the signal reception performance will vary. Please design the brightness of the luminaire or signage to match the application environment (especially the surrounding lux level) during installation. Lux level The signal reception performance will improve the brighter the luminaire or signage is. We recommend a luminaire/signage lux level of two times or more compared to the surrounding lux level. Sign size The signal reception performance will increase the larger the sign is, and signal reception will be better from locations that are farther away. Sign design White or a light colour is best for the background colour. Dark colours like black, grey, navy blue, etc. should be avoided. The white or light colour's area should be 50% or more of the area of the signage. It is best prefeable to ensure that the white or light colour area is longer than taller. Designs like long vertical lines, horizontal stripes, etc. should be avoided. The reception performance will vary depending on the smartphone model being used Barcode reader For 6 to 9 light ID modulators Connecting more than five modulators series will delay the ID signal. Please use the designated junction cable after the first modulator to create two rows. If a laser-type reader is used on the -ight ID modulator it will not be able to read the barcode or it will be misread. This cannot be avoided, so please ensure that the person making the installation is aware of and understands this point. There are multiple types of barcode readers such as CCD types, laser types, etc. Our research has shown that there are some laser types with a misread percentage of a few percent while there are other types which are not affected by ambient lighting such as light ID. However, we have not been able to confirm the effects with CCD types. Warnings when filming with a camera There is the possibility that a flicker effect will occur when using digital cameras, video cameras, etc. As the light emitted from a light ID sign flashes a signal at a high speed, cameras with a high shutter speed (example: 1/1000 sec.) will record black lines in the image.
