Please read these nstructons thoroughly before startng termnatons. Reasons for revson can be found n Secton 7, REVISION SUMMARY. 2. DESCRIPTION Each LghtCrmp Plus LC Connector conssts of a termnaton cover, a rear protectve cap, the man connector assembly, the crmp eyelet, and the boot. RefertoFgure1toseethesetems. 3. SAFETY PRES DANGER DANGER To avod personal njury, ALWAYS wear eye protecton when workng wth optcal fbers. NEVER look nto the end of termnated or untermnated fbers. Laser radaton s nvsble but can damage eye tssue. NEVER eat, drnk, or smoke when workng wth fbers. Ths could lead to ngeston of glass partcles. Be very careful to dspose of fber ends properly. The fbers create slvers that can easly puncture the skn and cause rrtaton. DO NOT use damaged tools. Replace them wth new components. 4. LghtCrmp Plus LC Connectors Fgure 2 2. Place the cable nto the cable channel on the cable holder and mark t at the frst and second slots as shown n Fgure 3. Important: When termnatng to zp cord cable, be sure to mark both strands at the same tme. Ths s requred to assure maxmum cable retenton performance. Fgure 5 5. Slde the cable nto the slttng tool untl the second mark s algned wth the blades as shown n Fgure 6. Squeeze the handles and pull to slt the jacket. Mark the Cable Fgure 6 6. Fan back the jacket and strength members. Fgure 3 3. Use the combnaton strp tool to cut the jacket at the frst mark from the cable edge and remove thejacket.seefgure4. 7. Slde the eyelet over the strength members as shown n Fgure 7. Fgure 4 4. Use shears to cut the strength members flush wth the jacket. See Fgure 5. Fgure 7 8. Place the buffer on the buffer channel of the cable holder. Mark the buffer at the two slots as shown n Fgure 8. 2 of 6 Tyco Electroncs Corporaton

LghtCrmp Plus LC Connectors Mark the Buffer 8mm Fgure 8 9. Use the combnaton strp tool to strp the buffer to the frst mark. You should strp t n smaller sectons multple tmes. 10. Use a lnt--free cloth (dampened wth alcohol) to clean the the fber and remove any resdue. Wpe AWAY from the buffer. If the fber breaks, cut the buffer flush wth the jacket and begn the strp process agan, begnnng wth Step 2 n Secton 5.1. Fgure 10 3. Whle applyng pressure on the fber, carefully slde the fber slde forward (toward the carrage) untl t stops. See Fgure 11. Multple wpes wll ensure cleanlness and also trensle tests the fber. Do not lay cable down Gong drectly to the next step wll prevent the cleaned fber from becomng contamnated. Fgure 11 4. Gently close the fber clamp and swftly slde the carrage forward. DO NOT touch the button whle sldng the carrage. See Fgure 12. Fgure 9 5.2. Cleavng 1. Open the fber clamp of the fber optc cleaver. LghtCrmp Plus LC Connectors 6. Remove the cleaved fber and properly dspose of the scrap fber. 5.3. Crmpng 1. Place the connector n the holder as shown n Fgure 13. Fgure 14 Fgure 13 2. Clamp the jacket wth the tp of the fber postoned at the back edge of the holder. 3. Carefully nsert the fber nto the back of the connector untl the fber bottoms aganst the nternal fber. Make sure that the remanng mark on the buffer enters the plunger 6. Gently push the buffer toward the connector assembly to make sure that the fber s stll bottomed, then slowly squeeze the tool handles together wth both hands untl the ratchet releases. Allow the handles to open fully, and remove the connector from the des. See Fgure 15. It s VERY IMPORTANT that the prepared fber bottoms and stays aganst the nternal fber If the remanng mark does not enter the plunger or f the fber does not seem to bottom aganst the nternal fber, gently pull back and re -nsert the fber nto the plunger untl you feel t bottom. If the remanng mark wll not enter the plunger, the fber must be re -strpped. 4. Slowly squeeze the tool handles together untl the ratchet releases. Allow the handles to open fully. Slowly close the handles untl you hear two clcks from the ratchet. 5. Wth the connector assembly n the cable holder, poston the termnaton cover n the upper cavty of the front de and the knurled rear body n the upper cavty of the rear de. See Fgure 14. The arrows marked on the front de ndcate the drecton that the termnaton cover must be pontng when the connector s postoned n that cavty. For proper placement, and to avod damage to the fber, observe the drecton of the arrows. Fgure 15 7. Poston the back of the connector assembly n the cavty of the front de wth the knurl aganst the edge of the groove n the de and the termnaton cover pontng n the drecton of the arrow. 8. Slowly squeeze the tool handles together untl the ratchet releases. Allow the handles to open fully, and remove the connector assembly from the de. See Fgure 16. 9. Pull back the eyelet and fan out the jacket and strength members over the connector knurled body. See Fgure 17. 4 of 6 Tyco Electroncs Corporaton
