2019 Organ Restoration The Father Willis Organ at Salisbury is one of our Cathedral s great treasures, and is still fulfilling its purpose 140 years after it was installed in 1876. It is now due for an extensive programme of repair and restoration. This is perhaps not surprising, given that since its last overhaul in 1993, the instrument has been used daily. The organ will be out of action for the whole of 2019 while this vital work is carried out. There are no plans to alter the unique sound of our magnificent instrument, which sounds very much as it did when Willis completed it in 1876. The Cathedral needs help to fund this important work, and our fundraising campaign is launched as part of this series. Please help us secure the future of this marvellous organ. Art & Exhibitions 12 May 22 July 2018, see front cover LES COLOMBES BY MICHAEL PENDRY Michael Pendry s compelling installation of over 2,500 folded white paper doves suspended high above our Nave is part of our programme commemorating the 100 th anniversary of the end of World War 1. The white dove has inspired mankind with its innocence and purity; it is a physical and emotional message of peace and, within the context of the Cathedral, a symbol of the Holy Spirit. This uplifting installation has travelled from Munich to Jerusalem, Buenos Aires to San Francisco and now brings its message of hope, humanity and new beginnings to Salisbury. Curated by Jacquiline Creswell. #SalisburyCityOfDoves We are partnering with local communities, businesses and arts organisations to extend this exhibition throughout the city, uniting us in the values of sharing, caring and hope for the future in troubled times. Join our community project and make a dove of your own to display in your windows at home or at work. Take part in one of our dove making workshops or download the information from our website to create yours in the comfort of your home.
