Welcome to... / 3 In 2015 it really feels like we re in the midst of a golden age of electronic music. From the deep house and garage-infused pop of Disclosure to the return of the mighty Chemical Brothers to the left-field anthems of Jamie XX, there s been so much to be excited and inspired by. With Eclectic Electronica we ve tried to reflect this broad church of influences. Part house, part disco, part techno, part synth pop: this collection pulls in the finest elements from all of these genres, mashing them together into one sound of now inspiration compilation. It s mainstream without being sell-out. It s underground without being elitist. And at 2.8GB, it s easily our biggest ever collection. Inside you ll find all the usual folders. In the drums you ve got 20 kick-ass grooves served with all the usual stems. The grooves span deep house workouts to dirty alt dance beats. In the bass folder you ve got a choice selection of dancefloor-shaking loops including a bonus folder of retro live bass licks to continue the indie / electro vibe. But it s the melodics where this pack really shines. There s our trademark inspiration kits: 20 full-track workouts up to 32 bars in length and presented with stripped stems and MIDI variants for total creative freedom. In the music and synths folder you ll find stacks of radio-ready melodics and stunning synth hooks. There s also a folder of hardware synth arms and sequences for that retro rave flavour. Finally there s a bucketload of live / machine drum hits bundled with five custom drum kits and 10 hardware synth multisample instruments (5 bass, 5 synth) to round off what we hope is our most diverse and versatile collection to date. Enjoy! Colin Flynn The Producer
Producer tips / 4 Sound choice Sometimes you might have a great melodic hook that just doesn t sound right in your mix. Instead of spending hours tweaking compression and EQ settings to crowbar it into the mix, instead try going back to the actual sound itself. If it s a big stacked synth try replacing it with an airy pluck or a mono line. The reverse can also work: try replacing a thin sounding patch with something lush and full. Digital and analogue Analogue and digital sounds can co-exist beautifully together. Try doubling up your VST synth lines with external hardware sounds for seriously sublime sonics. Simply duplicate two midi tracks, sending one to your soft-synth of choice and the other out to your favourite hardware synth. When back in the box, mix the two recorded signals together for some truly unique timbres and characterful tones that engage all the right frequencies. Reverse mixing It s all too easy to starting turning up the gain on individual channels and pushing your mix hard especially as ears tire during longer studio sessions. Before you know it your whole mix can sound squashed, sonically sapped and dynamically depleted. To counter this, trying mixing at lower volumes in general whilst also considering that maybe everything in the mix itself could be quieter! This will help introduce dynamics and detail back into your mix while still leaving lots of headroom for mastering later on.
