UDM-FAQ-US June 2006

What are the physical dimensions / characteristics of the UDM1600? Mechanical: Height: 1.7 inches Width: 17.25 inches Depth: 12.25 inches Weight: 9.0 lbs Environmental: Operating Temp 32F (0C) to 122F (50C) Power: Operating Voltage 110 VAC, 50-60Hz How many inputs does the UDM1604 support? The UDM1604 supports 4x Composite Video (Standard Definition) and 4 configurable High Resolution Inputs. Each High Resolution input (presented on rear of hub as Inputs A thru D) can be configured for any of the following types. Composite S-Video Component RGBHV Up to 3 sources per Input Connector (max 12 per hub) 1 source per connector (max 4 per hub) 1 source per connector (max 4 per hub) 1 source per connector (max 4 per hub) HD15 to 3x RCA breakout cables are used to connect composite or component sources. HD15 to S-Video breakout cable is used to connect an S-Video Source. HD15 Standard VGA cable is used for RGB sources. So depending on the type of sources configured the system could have: 4x RGBHV sources or 4x Component Sources or 4x S-Video Sources or 12x Composite Video Sources or any combination of the above. UDM-FAQ-US June 2006 1

The 4x Additional composite video inputs (RJ45 presented on front of unit) allow for the connection of: 4 interconnects from an Endeleo Managed TV TVM1600 distribution hub, or A further 4 composite video sources using approved Video over UTP extenders (e.g. Extron MTP range, NVT314A, NVT418A). How many outputs does each UDM1604 support? The UDM1604 supports 16 user (display) connections. Each user connection uses a dedicated home run UTP connection (Cat5, Cat5e, Cat6). Can I add more UDM1604 Hubs and increase my available inputs and outputs? The UDM1604 supports 4 high resolution and 4 low resolution inputs and up to 16 displays. Adding more UDM1604 Hubs is possible using the CASCADE IN and CASCADE OUT connectors at the back of each UDM1604 unit. Using these connectors does not reduce the number of available user ports. Cascading does not automatically increase the overall size of the matrix from say, 4x16 to 8x32. It is a downward cascade of inputs not bidirectional. In a multi hub installation the first UDM1604 hub in the chain must be configured through the on board Web Engine as a MASTER hub. Subsequent hubs in the chain need to be configured as SLAVE hubs. Any downstream hub (hubs 2, 3, 4, etc) has the option of defining its inputs as either: LOCAL (sources are connected to and defined as Inputs to rear ports A thru D) 2 UDM-FAQ-US June 2006

CASCADED (sources are actually connected to an upstream hub and passed down through the 50 pin CASCADE cable) Through the on board Web Engine the user defines how many inputs on each UDM1604 are LOCAL and how many (if any) are CASCADED IN (coming from another hub). Note A maximum of 4 high resolution inputs (A thru D) will be available to the 16 users on a UDM1604 and these 4 inputs are made up of both LOCAL inputs on the slave hub and CASCADED inputs from upstream hubs. The system cannot support both 4 local and 4 cascaded inputs. Also note that a UDM1604 can only cascade out its high res inputs NOT the Auxiliary RJ45 inputs (TVM or Composite video inputs at front of unit). In this way, the user can create a fully matrixed 4x32 system (or larger, 4x48, 4x64 etc), or create zones of users pulling from different sets of sources with certain sources from the Master chassis made available to all users. UDM-FAQ-US June 2006 3

Example A customer has 4 x PCs connected to hub UDM1604-01 as PC1A (Input A), PC1B (Input B), PC1C (Input C) and PC1D (Input D). All 4 PCs are available to all 16 users on this hub (User 1 -> User 16). When we add and cascade a second hub the customer could choose to cascade all 4 sources so that Users 17-32 can now also select PCs 1-4. In this case NONE of the local inputs A thru D on hub UDM1604-02 are available. This design represents a 4x32 configuration. However the customer may decide to add 2x Component HDTV Satellite Receivers (HD-SAT2C and HD-SAT2D) to be available to Users 17-32. To do this they would have to use 2 of the rear 4 UDM-FAQ-US June 2006

inputs on hub UDM1604-02 but by doing so prevents cascading 2 sources in from hub UDM1604-01. If the Component Satellite Receivers are connected on Inputs C and D on hub UDM1604-02 then I cannot cascade PC1C or PC1D and these PCs are NOT available to users 17-32. For more information on the UDM Cascading capabilities contact your local Endeleo Sales/Support office.. What do the LEDS on the UDM1604 user ports signify? Amber (Indicates that Phantom Power is ENABLED) Green (Indicates that UDM-RX unit is connected LINK) UDM-FAQ-US June 2006 5

What are the RJ45 Pinout Specifications for the UDM1604 User Ports? Pin-outs are dependent on the type of video being transmitted to each Display. Refer to the table below. UDM Tranmission on User Output Ports (1-16) Pair Pin UDM (CVBS) UDM (S-Video) UDM (YPbPr) UDM (RGB) 1 1 CVBS + Luma + Y+ Red + 1 2 CVBS - Luma - Y- Red - 2 3 Chroma + Pr+ Blue+ 3 4 Pb+ Green + 3 5 Pb- Green - 2 6 Chroma - Pr- Blue - 4 7 Power, Data, Audio Power, Data, Audio Power, Data, Audio Power, Data, Audio 4 8 Power, Data, Audio Power, Data, Audio Power, Data, Audio Power, Data, Audio What is the power draw on the UDM1604 hub? At an operating voltage of 110V, the UDM1604 hub draws 2A, which translates to 160W. Fully loaded the UDM1604 actually draws 130W. Power is transmitted to each UDM-RX receiver module as 24V dc, drawing 150mA - current limited to 560mA. Each receiver (UDMRX) connected to the UDM1604 draws 3.2W (50W total for 16 RX modules) leaving about 80W to power the hub. Can I use Shielded Twisted Pair (STP) cable in place of UTP (Unshielded Twisted Pair)? Yes. Does Cable Skew on Cat5e and Cat6 cables affect video quality? Cable skew will only be a factor when transmitting RGBHV sources over UTP. This is due to the differing twist ratios on individual pairs now created during cable manufacture. Endeleo provides on board electronic skew compensation for R, G and B components on each UDM-RX (i.e. at each display). 6 UDM-FAQ-US June 2006

Skew compensation can be controlled via: On-board text based setup utility on UDM-RX; Infrared Remote control at UDM-RX and UDM1604 web server. Once compensation is set electronically, these values (delays) are stored in NVRAM (Non-Volatile RAM) and are retained even after system reboot. What distances are supported from the UDM Hub to an Rx unit? For an RGB HV source (e.g. PC) connected to the UDM1604 hub, distances supported are: Resolution Common Name Max Distance HDTV Support 640x480 VGA 1000' 480i / 480p 800x600 SVGA 1000' 1024x768 XGA 1000' 720p 1280x1024 SXGA 750' 1600x1200 UXGA 500' 1080i What audio types are supported on the UDM1604? For the 4 x RJ45 presented AV inputs (on the front of the hub), the UDM1604 supports balanced Stereo Audio (L/R) only. For the 4 x High Resolution supported inputs (on rear of unit), a user can configure either Analog Stereo Audio (L/R) or Multi-channel Digital audio (via coaxial S/PDIF Connector) e.g. Dolby Digital 5.1. NOTE: Only 1 audio source can be configured for each HD15 input (A thru D) even when the input may be defined as 3x Composite video sources. What are the possible affects of improperly terminated Twisted Pair? Incorrectly Terminated cable would result in the following scenarios; Pair Composite Video S-Video Component Video RGBHV Video User Port LINK LED 1 NONE No Luma No Y No RED LIT 2 No Chroma No Pr No BLUE LIT 3 No Pb No GREEN LIT 4 NONE NONE NONE NONE NONE UDM-FAQ-US June 2006 7

Console cable provided with UDM1604. This cable is also used for PC connection to UDM1604 console port for basic system setup. NOTE: Null Modem or Gender Changer adapters may be required depending on pinouts of Display Device being controlled. What are the Infrared receiver specifications on the UDM User Modules? The UDM-RX01 includes a 3.5mm (1/8in) jack for addition of an external Infrared sensor, which when configured and used in conjunction with an approved Endeleo remote control allows: Source selection; Transport control of playback devices (DVDs, VCRs); Channel and basic menu control for Satellite/CableTV Set top boxes; One button selection of programmed scheduled events and One button selection of programmed Display Device control (e.g. Power On/Off, Mute). IR bud specifications 38 khz (Carrier Center Frequency); Case Shape (W 26mm x L 38 mm x H 13 mm) and 1.5 m Overall Unit Length (including cable). 8 UDM-FAQ-US June 2006

Jack Specifications TIP Vcc (5V) RING VOut SCREEN GND NOTE: Due to the specific voltage requirements of the IR sensor jack, not all manufacturers IR Sensors will work with the UDM-RX01. Please check voltage pin-outs before connecting. What are the Pin-outs for an Ethernet Crossover cable and a standard straight thru Ethernet cable? The UDM user module has an RJ12 jack for bidirectional serial communication. What is the default setting for the Ethernet connection on the UDM1604 hub? The hub is configured at 10MB-Full Duplex and cannot be changed. If there are issues communicating with the UDM Hub try setting the port on your network switch to 10MB-Full Duplex. Does the UDM1604 Hub support DHCP? No. What RS232 Port settings are used to connect to the UDM1604 console port? Setting Value Bits per second 9600 Data Bits 8 Parity None Stop Bits 1 Flow Control None UDM-FAQ-US June 2006 9

Can I control the UDM- RX module through its RS232 port? Yes. Serial control of the UDMRX modules provides an alternative method of control to using the handheld IR remote control. Serial connection to the receiver is through the RJ12 connector normally used for control of serial devices. Because of this, serial commands can be sent to the receiver only if there are no other display devices connected to the receiver. The serial interface is a standard 9600 bps, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit serial interface using an RJ12 connector. Hardware handshaking is not required, although there is provision on the connector for it. What are the RS232 Port Pin-outs on the UDMRX01 units? This tiny emitter has a self-adhesive pad that allows it to be stuck directly to the IR sensor window of your audio/video equipment. This configuration gives you the highest level of signal transmission accuracy. The emitter continues to allow external IR signal through (so that you can still use your remote by directly pointing it at your audio/visual component). The mini stick-on emitter includes a 7 ft cable between the emitter head and the miniplug. Specifications Single Headed IR emitter; IR transparent to allow remote control to directly control the source equipment; Small, low-profile design; Lead (10ft, 3m) is terminated with a 1/8 (3.5mm) male mono mini plug and Tip is +5V, Ring is 0V. What remote control can be used with the UDM RX user modules? Default remote control is the UDM-RC01 (Template below). This remote control uses a custom NEC Infrared protocol and has an optimum operating range of 15ft (5m). The modulated carrier is usually derived from 455kHz and is 1/12 of the frequency with 1/3 duty cycle. When data is transmitted repeatedly, the frame cycle is 107.9ms or a 186 period. A frame consists of a sync pulse, an eight-bit custom code, an eight-bit inverted custom code, an eight-bit data code and an eight-bit inverted data code. UDM-FAQ-US June 2006 11
