Please read carefully, complete and submit the cast application form and return to productions@tps.community by 6pm Friday 18th May 2018. Auditionees will be contacted via email with their confirmed audition time after applications have closed. Please indicate on your application form your available times. Those auditioning for adult or ensemble roles must be 16 years of age prior to the commencement of the production. There are a limited number of child roles within this production including young and teenage princess Fiona, and young Shrek. Auditions will be held between 25th - 27th May 2018 @ Toowoomba Philharmonic Complex - 7 Matthews Street The Panel: You will be auditioning for a panel made up of the creative team including Director, Musical Director, Choreographer and Vocal Coach. Please be aware that other individuals including production staff and accompanists may be present at some stages of the process. REHEARSALS: Rehearsals will be conducted on the following days: MONDAY: 6:30-9:30PM WEDNESDAY: 6:30-9:30PM & SUNDAY: 1:30-6:30PM (Over an 11 week period) Orchestra: To submit an expression of interest in being part of the Shrek orchestra, please send a brief email outlining your instrumental and ensemble experience. Shrek brings all the beloved characters you know from the film to life on stage and proves there s more to the story than meets the ears. Once upon a time, there was a little ogre named Shrek... And thus begins the tale of an unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue. Throw in a short-tempered bad guy, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you ve got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there s one on hand... and his name is Shrek. Shrek presents a treasure trove of creative opportunities, including costumes, sets, puppets (there is a fire-breathing dragon after all) and more! AUDITION Information & Application Pack AUDITION REQUIREMENTS Each person auditioning for a principal role or ensemble (including dancers) will be asked to sing an own choice song, perform an excerpt of script from the production, and take part in a movement/dance audition. Most roles in SHREK require on stage cast to sing, act and dance. Select adult roles require less dancing but may still require movement. Singing Component: Please prepare two song excerpts from musical theatre repertoire in the style of the show - specifically in the style of the songs sung by the character for which you are auditioning. Do not choose a song from SHREK. You should prepare approximately 32 bars of each song (approximately 1 minute per song is a good guide). The Panel may not hear both songs at the audition. With this in mind, please make appropriate cuts to your songs before your audition and choose appropriate excerpts that demonstrate your abilities and vocal range. Be prepared to be stopped and started throughout your song, and to take direction from the Panel. Acting Component: You will be required to act out a section of dialogue from the script. Excerpts to choose from will be emailed to you accompanied by your audition time. Please be familiar with at least two of the excerpts. Please note: Dialogue does not need to be performed from memory at the audition but familiarity will aid delivery. Dance Component: A movement/dance group audition will be held separately to your singing audition in small groups. Please ensure you wear appropriate clothing and footwear i.e. no short skirts, tight jeans or sandals. There is no need to prepare anything for this audition; it will be taught to you by the choreographer on the day. A video recording of the choreography will be sent via email to all auditionees 24hrs in advance of the day of the audition. There is no expectation that auditionees are to learn the choreography prior to the audition; it will be taught on the day. Please note that some auditionees will be kept back for a further short tap dance audition. Please indicate on your audition form if you have had any previous tap experience. Backstage Singers: We will be conducting a group audition at 1.00pm on Sunday 27th May 2018 for backstage singers. The Musical Director and the Vocal Coach will check harmonies, mix and range in the potential backstage singers at this audition. There will be no need to prepare a song as music will be given out on the day. If you would like to be considered for both an on-stage role and backstage singers role then you are still required to do an individual audition as well as the group audition. Principal Adult Roles SHREK Our story s title character. A big, green, terrifying ogre who lives alone in a swamp. He embarks on a journey to rid his land of fairytale creatures and, along the way, falls in love with Fiona. Begins as a grumpy hermit, but reveals his layers and eventually becomes the hero. Male - Vocal range: A2 - G#4 FIONA The beautiful princess of Far Far Away, she transforms into an ogre every night when the sun sets. Rescued by Shrek and eventually falls in love with him. Quirky, blunt, and multi-talented, she is not an ordinary princess. Female - Vocal range F3 - G5 (C6) DONKEY A talking donkey who joins Shrek on the run from Farquaad s guards. Quite the chatterbox, he is not deterred by Shrek s looks and practically forces himself into his good graces. Easily frightened and pushy, but also an optimist with heart. Male - Vocal range C3 - B4 LORD FARQUAAD DRAGON GINGY The comically short, ruthless ruler of Duloc. He is in search of a princess to marry so that he can become king. Has an intensely unfair bias against fairytale creatures that stems from a resentment of his father. Self-absorbed, lonely, and cruel. Male - Vocal range B2 - D5 A dragon that has been charged with guarding Princess Fiona in her isolated castle. She eventually falls in love with Donkey and attempts to keep him there forever. Imposing and flirtatious, but tired of her job as the glorified baby-sitter. Strong singer and mover required. Female - Vocal range: F3 - Eb5 A gingerbread man initially kidnapped by Lord Farquaad. His wit and resolution help him both avoid trouble and inspire the rest of the fairytale creatures. Puppet. May be operated by actress appearing as Ensemble cast member Female - Vocal range B3 - C#5 PINOCCHIO The leader of the fairytale creatures. He is an animated puppet whose nose grows every time he lies. Plenty of sass with a penchant for lying.
