New Member Info Beginning Band 2018-2019 We are so excited for next year and have some amazing things in store! The band staff are committed to making the transition to Staley as smooth as possible and this packet has everything you need to start the year off right! Please let us know if you have any questions or ways we can help. Things will slow down during the summer time, but we will do our best to get back to you as soon as possible you can reach Mr. Wood at woodc@friscoisd.org. Families are welcome to pay online, with cash, or with a check (payable to SMSBPA), but note that we will need a copy of all forms for our records. If you missed the meeting you are welcome to return paperwork to your elementary music teacher, drop if off at the Staley Front office, or mail it to Staley Middle School Band 6927 Stadium Ln. Frisco, TX 75033 (note that we will not receive mail for most of the summer but it will be delivered when we return in August) Paperwork All paperwork/fees are due Friday 8/17 (the second day of school). We encourage families to return/pay for everything as soon as possible as this makes for a much smoother start of the school year and one less thing you need to worry about in August. Please make arrangements now! These pages are for anyone looking to serve on our booster club. www.staleyband.org/nominate General Information CALENDAR CHANGE: Beginning Band Camp will take place immediately after colt camp on Tuesday, 8/7 from 11:00am-12:30p. Parents are welcomed to leave the students with us and pick them up at the end. Instrument/Supplies: Most instruments and ALL supplies are purchased through music stores. Please reserve or make arrangements to get everything towards the start of summer as there is always a big run on every local music store in July. We will be using our instruments and supplies the second week of school and we do not want your child missing out! See Form 4 and the Instrument Info page. Website: We are looking to go almost paperless next year. We are in the middle of completely revamping our website to make it more efficient at communicating with ALL our families. For information about all events just add a backslash and the month. We hope to have the conversion completed in June. Financial Aid: We have decided to base our financial aid process on the FISD Free & Reduced Lunch list. We have been working alongside Mrs. Robinson and are excited about making band affordable to all. There is no additional paperwork needed since families work directly with the district. If your family needs additional help (or know of a need within our program) please let Mr. Wood know! Curriculum/Reward Changes: Next year we are revamping our program s curriculum to better align with the district standards (Mr. Wood has been part of the district curriculum writing team for three years). This K-12 alignment should help us reach new heights in the years ahead! Part of this will also shift to have more 6-8 events both during school and outside the school day. Need to screen? Have a friend that wants to join? If your child still needs to be placed on an instrument please let us know before you leave for summer! We can even set up a time to meet the first couple weeks in June if need-

This packet contains information for the start of next school year. While much of this will be familiar to you, note that there are some changes so please look the paperwork over carefully. Please let us know if you have any questions or ways we can help. Things will slow down during the summer time, but we will do our best to get back to you as soon as possible you can reach Mr. Wood at woodc@friscoisd.org. Instrument Info Page 1 Getting an instrument Students who sign up in band will need to have an instrument and supplies for their instrument. Below are the four options regarding instruments. Band Families should make plans to reserve/rent their instrument and get all supplies BEFORE summer starts to avoid the late summer rush on the music stores. 1) Rent from a music store- Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, & Percussion students typically rent from a music store. Once you reserve an instrument they will deliver it directly to us over the summer and it will be waiting for you at summer camp! 2) School Owned Instruments- Oboe, Bassoon, Horn, Euphonium, & Tuba students only need to purchase basic supplies as your instrument rental will be provided through FISD. 3) Used/Online/Already Owned- If you already own an instrument or are looking to purchase a used one second hand, please include us in the conversation! We are also happy to check out any links you want to forward us regarding potential instruments or even meet up sometime to make sure the instrument you have is in good working order. If you have an instrument that needs a small tune up - be sure to take it into Music 1st at the start of summer to avoid the rush. 4) Financial Aid- Staley has a limited number of Flutes, Clarinets, Trumpets, and Trombones available for families who are participants in FISD s Free & Reduced Lunch program. If we run out of inventory we are happy to work with local music stores on your behalf to help you get an instrument. Note that students who do not have an instrument by August 31, 2018 may have their schedules changed out of band. Please let us know how we can help! Local Music Stores www.staleyband.org/stores There are many great local music stores in our area. You are welcome to shop around and see what options work best for your family. The closest store to Staley is Williamson Music 1st, located on Main Street about half a mile away from our campus. They are the only local store with a repair shop on site, which can be a huge convenience if you ever have any repairs that need to be done. All Instruments Williamson Music 1st www.wm1st.com (469) 362-7171 All Instruments Music & Arts www.musicarts.com (972) 668-1176 Flute Only Carolyn Nussbaum www.flute4u.com (972) 985-2662 Clarinets Only Duo Music www.duoclarinetshop.com (214) 436-7459 Percussion Only Lonestar Percussion www.lonestarpercussion.com (214) 340-0835 Online Deals: If you choose to shop online there are great deals online for both instruments and supplies- if you know what to look for. Please feel free to shop around, but beware of used instruments from Craigslist, Ebay, or other online market places. If you have any questions please forward links to the band staff and we will give you an idea if it is a good deal or not. In many cases sellers will also give you a time to try before you buy. If needed we are happy to set up a time (even in the summer) to meet and play test your instrument.

BPA Membership Student Info 3 FISD Student ID Student First Student Last About the SMSBPA The Staley Middle School Band Parent Association (SMSBPA) supports the Staley Band and is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. The main purpose of the organization is to provide additional opportunities and funding for students that FISD cannot provide. Membership is optional, but ALL families are encouraged to join as this is the absolute best way to support your student s band program. Membership Fee ($10) Membership to this organization is $10 per family. If your family has more than one child in the Staley Band you will only need to pay $10 total not per child. Since this is an optional fee there is not a discount available for Free & Reduced Lunch participants. Financial Aid The SMSBPA is proud to make band a reality for all families regardless of their financial situation. If your family is enrolled in the FISD Free and Reduced Lunch Program we will offer up to 50% reduced fees when possible. The SMSBPA is the organization that picks up the slack as the band program does not receive any funding from FISD to help cover these expenses. While it is not required, it is STRONGLY recommended that anyone receiving reduced fees consider joining the SMSBPA if possible. Payment information You CAN pay for multiple children or expenses with one payment (Fees, Uniform, & Instrument Usage, etc.), but please be sure to include INDIVIDUAL FORMS for EACH band member/expense.
