xx HOME is a trading name of Greater Manchester Arts Ltd a company limited by guarantee, registered in England and Wales No: 1681278 Registered office 2 Tony Wilson Place Manchester M15 4FN. Charity No: 514719 PRESS RELEASE 14 Mar 2018 HOME presents the world premiere of Corrido de la Sangre by Olivier Award-winning and Grammy-nominated cult British music trio The Tiger Lillies, with stunning visuals, original music and projected sets Fri 20 Apr Sat 5 May 2018 Press night Wed 25 Apr As part of Viva! Spanish and Latin American Festival 2018, HOME presents Corrido de la Sangre, a brand-new HOME production from the provocative, avant-garde Godfathers of alternative cabaret The Tiger Lillies. Described as the forefathers of Brechtian Punk Cabaret, the group have found worldwide recognition for their unique sound and style that merges the macabre magic of pre-war Berlin with the savage edge of punk. A Corrido singer and his band return from the realm of the dead to haunt their killer and present a dark story of intrigue, vengeance, murder and the mayhem of a romance gone bad. Set in a small dusty town in the lands between Mexico and the US, the singer

relays the tale of his rise and fall and the songs of life at the border, where mythical creatures from Aztec times still haunt the night. This is a realm where folklore and real-life merge, where audiences meet a knight, an evil king, a damsel in distress and the Saint of the Sinners. Corrido de la Sangre blends spectacular visuals with original music courtesy of The Tiger Lillies, widely celebrated and enduringly popular for their distinctive sound that marries high-art cabaret with sordid depravity. Martyn Jacques s singing and performance on accordion, piano, harmonica, organ, ukulele or guitar is accompanied as ever by Adrian Stout s multi-instrument playing, on bass, euphonium and musical saw, plus sepulchral backing vocals; and drum duty is handled by Jonas Golland. Martyn Jacques commented: We are very much looking forward to coming to HOME to collaborate once again with visual director Mark Holthusen and writer Peder Bjurman to tell a great story accompanied by beautiful visuals set in one of our favourite places in the world, Mexico. Walter Meierjohann, Artistic Director: Theatre, HOME, added: Viva! will return this season to brighten our Spring/Summer with a full and colourful cross-art programme from Spain and Latin America. In theatre, we are very proud to present the world premiere of a HOME and The Tiger Lillies co-production, Corrido de la Sangre, exploring Mexico and the Day of the Dead with a new and original score this must-see show will follow in the footsteps of Lulu and The Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner, promising to be a feast for eyes and ears. FOUNDING SUPPORTERS: OFFICIAL HOTEL PARTNER: NOTES TO EDITORS THE TIGER LILLIES JONAS GOLLAND is from London but partly grew up in America studying and working in theatre, and tinkering with drums, percussion, piano, guitars, sampling, noise and composition. After studying in the UK he initiated spoken word saxophone band I Am Meat. After Adrian Stout saw them perform at Evidently Chickentown, he asked Jonas to play drums with the Tiger Lillies in Santiago, Chile in January 2015. Jonas has performed and recorded with Michael Rosen & the Dulce Tones (Ali Friend of Red Snapper), Hugh Metcalf, Peter Maas(Freeez), The A Band (Neil Campbell), Asier Leatxe Ibañez d'opakoa, Marie Portier, Dr. Equalizer, Gardyloo SPeW, Man From Uranus, Led-Z, Rude Mechanicals, Lonesome Cowboys From Hell, Paradise 9, Nik Turner, composed modular loops for Robotics at Imperial College with Kyuhwa Lee. Been especially performing and recording with avant-classical songwriter Psychoyogi, www.psychoyogi.com. In recent months Gardyloo's new improvisation band Chunkitini has featured Jonas performing written word to music. MARTYN JAQUES, the founder of The Tiger Lillies, spent much of his early years living above a brothel in London s Soho. He is a self trained musician and singer, playing mostly the accordion, piano and ukulele. His hauntingly beautiful falsetto has become The Tiger Lillies trademark and combined with his dark and edgy songwriting style has led to him being widely known as the Criminal Castrato. Martyn has composed music for and performed in numerous shows all over the world and enjoys working with artists of all disciplines: from highbrow theatre to circus, and from experimental dance to burlesque and puppetry. He is very proud that The Tiger Lillies have performed in opera houses and rock festivals as well as circus tents and smelly pubs. His music has been used in films (Plunkett & Macleane, Luftbusiness, Drunken Sailor, Return to Nuke Em High) and recently he composed music for The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, which he performed as a live accompaniment to the iconic silent film in his first ever solo show. Martyn has been commissioned by acclaimed American photographer Nan Goldin to compose an original score for her Ballad of Sexual Dependency slideshow project and has actually performed the piece with The Tiger Lillies as a live soundtrack to Nan s startling images. Martyn s work has been nominated for a Grammy Award (The Gorey End in 1998) and his memorable performance in cult hit musical Shockheaded Peter won him an Oliver Award.

ADRIAN STOUT has played Bass with Errol Linton, Pigmeat Pete Smith and Todd Sharpville, as well as many other bands in every possible style of music during the 1980's and 90's. He toured Europe and India, and also recorded two albums, for Blues icon Dana Gillespie before being co-opted by The Tiger Lillies for 1995's Edinburgh Festival. This was only supposed to be for a week. 21 years later this once serious musician has since then found himself dancing in leider hosen, making love to inflatable sheep and dressing as a cheap prostitute. Adrian has been adding an arsenal of unusual musical instruments to the Tiger Lillies sound, playing musical saw, Theremin, jaw harps and nose flutes on recordings and performances. He has been Grammy nominated for his work on the album The Gorey End (with Kronos Quartet) and won an Olivier Award as part of the ensamble for Shockheaded Peter. In 2007 Adrian co-wrote and produced a cd with cult icon Sexton Mingcalled "A Taste of Wood" that was released on their Crapping Clown label. He has played bass on 3 albums for Stuart A Staples of Tindersticks'Lucky Dog Recordings 03-04', 'Leaving Songs' and Souvenir 06 and toured with him throughout Europe for 2 years. In 2009 he was invited by Danielle de Picciotto to compose music for the Feedback Exhibition that was shown in Berlin and Frankfurt and in 2010 he added saw and Theremin to the Urban Voodoo Machine cd 'In Black 'N' Red' as well as performing onstage with them on numerous occasions. He has also been spotted as guest saw (or Theremin) player with Amanda Palmer, Joe Black, Sxip Shirey, Elyas Khan, Alex Hacke and Marcus Reeves. Recently Adrian has performed in a musical saw duo called The Weeping Saws with David Coulter. He is playing bass for The Penny Black Remedy for a single in 2014, produced by Boz Boorer. He can also be found playing bass for Nigel Burch and the Flea Pit Orchestra in seedy bars in London and Europe. Currently he is recording material for improvised collective Chromabergsin his own studio, appeared as a guest thereminist for Roberta Hofer on her new album, and is trying to make satisfying noises on a Bb Euphonium. In 2017 he contributed Muscial Saw and Theremin for Opera Chaotique's new album.
