SCHEME OF EXAMINATION EWE (ELECTIVE) There will be two papers, Papers 1 and 2, both of which must to be taken. PAPER 1: Will test candidates language skill development. It will consist of four sections, Sections A, B, C and D as follows: Section A: Four topics for composition will be set and candidates will be required to write an essay on one of them for 40 marks. Section B: A prose passage will be set in English for translation into the language. The section will carry 20 marks. Section C: Ten questions will be set on a passage to test candidates comprehension of the language. Candidates will be required to answer all the questions for 20 marks. Section D: A number of items will be set to cover phonology and syntax. The section will carry 40 marks. The paper shall take 3 hours. PAPER 2: Will consist of two Sections, Sections A and B as follows: Section A: Will contain two questions, one on Oral Literature and the other on Customs and Institutions. Candidates will be required to answer only one of the questions for 20 marks. Section B: Will cover Written Literature. It will consist of three parts, Part I, II and III on prose, drama and poetry respectively. Each part will have two questions, and candidates will be required to answer only one question from each part for a maximum of 20 marks each. The paper shall take 2 hours, 30 minutes.
