GENERAL REQUIREMENTS The working environment requirements vary somewhat by module. However, if the following general guidelines are met, your thermal analysis system should provide optimum performance: Environment is temperature controlled (optimum range 20-35ϒC). Environment is clean and dust-free. Work area is ventilated but away from direct air drafts. Work area is not exposed to direct sunlight. Work surface is stable and vibration-free. Stable source of electrical power is available. Sources of clean, dry, oil-free purge, cooling and air bearing gases are available. Regulate air into module at 200 kpa (30 psig). It is recommended to pass the compressed air through a filter to collect unwanted dirt, oil, and water. 2 - Purge gas flowmeter (10-100 ml/minute). TA Instruments PN 270134-001 or equivalent. 3 - Purge gas supply (usually nitrogen) with appropriate valves and pressure regulator. 4 - Cylinders of pressurized oxygen, air, or nitrogen. 5 - A two-stage regulator, operating at a maximum of 7 MPa (1,000 psig). 6-1/8 inch Swagelok* fittings one 1/8 inch tubing for connecting the regulator to the cell. 5

LABORATORY REQUIREMENTS / NOTES (cont.) 7 - Vibration - free location (damping table or slab, if required). [Damping table not recommended for the DMA]. 8 - Two purge gas flowmeters (10-150 ml/minute). TA Instruments PN 270134-002 or equivalent. 9 - Purge gas flow meter (0.1-1.0 L/minute). Standard operating purge 100 ml/min (TA Instruments flowmeter PN 270134-001) 10 - Liquid Nitrogen Cooling Accessory (LNCA) for subambient operation is required. 11 - Purge gas flow meter (0.5-1.5 L/minute). TA Instruments PN 270134-003 or equivalent. 12 - Required nitrogen flow is 50-90 ml/minute. The MEA 903 includes a flow meter, but not a pressure regulator. 13 - Dry nitrogen purge gas 35-100 kpa (5-15 psig). 14 - Liquid nitrogen supply with a pressure of approximately 150-170 kpa (22-25 psig). 15 - Appropriate flow meters required containing 4-110 Vac outlets. 16 - Used for countries with 220 V power. 17 - Helium and nitrogen purge gas supplies with appropriate valves and pressure regulators. 18 - Requires auxillary vacuum pump which is usually stored under bench. 19 - Helium or other purge gas supply with appropriate valves and pressure regulator. 20 - Gas Cooling Accessory (GCA) for subambient operation is required. 21 - ACA or 4 liters/min of 60-65 psi clean, dry, oil-free air required. [A small filter/regulator is included with ACA.] 22 - Water flow of 1/2 L/min or more required for water bath. 23-25 L/min (minimum) of 65-100 psi clean, oil-free compressed air [1/4" PTF inlet port size]. Dew point -20 C. 24 - Water flow of 1 L/min and waste point or refrigerated water circular. 25 - AR 1000 Controller part of instrument. See separate specifications listed in Rheometer Accessories section. 26 - WB Controller part of instrument.
