Theater I am going to a theater at the Nazareth College Arts Center to see a show. 1

Entrance I will walk in the entrance to get to the theater where I will see the show. The entrance at the Arts Center is big. When I walk in, I will see stairs. I will see a counter. I will see a box office. 2

Box Office Before we go into the theater, we have to get tickets for the show. We will go to a place called the box office to get tickets. Every person must have a ticket to get into the theater. 3

Will Call If my mom or dad already bought tickets, we will go to will call. Will call is a counter with a person on the other side. We will tell the person behind the counter our name and the show we are going to. The person behind the counter will give us tickets for the show. 4

Stairs I can choose to walk up the stairs from the main entrance to get to the lobby. 5

Elevator I can choose to take the elevator from the main entrance to get to the lobby. 6

Lobby I will walk through an open space in the lobby. People may be standing around before entering the theater. 7

Lobby I will see a food stand in the lobby. Sometimes I will see a gift stand in the lobby. I will see a table with coloring pages and crayons on it in the lobby. 8

Coloring I will tell my mom or dad if I want to color. I can use the coloring pages and crayons in the lobby. I can take my coloring picture home with me. 9

Usher The usher is a friendly helper. I can ask the usher for help. The usher can give me objects I can hold onto in the theater. The usher can help me find my seat. 10

Stairs I will be careful when I walk up the stairs to get into the theater. I can hold onto the wall railing when I walk up the steps. 11

Ramp I will be careful walking down the ramp to get to my seat. 12

My Seat An usher can help me find my seat. Every ticket has a letter and a number. I will match the ticket letter and number with the row letter and seat number. Every seat in the theater has a number on the seat. This is where I will sit for the show. ** 13

Sitting I will always be sitting next to my family. It is ok to stand up in front of my seat, if I need to get up. 14

Sitting When I am sitting, sometimes a person will walk in front of me. If a person is in my way to see the show, I can quietly ask the person Can you please move out of my way? Thank you. 15

Bathroom I will let my mom or dad know if I have to go to the bathroom. I can go to the bathroom any time I need to. The sound of flushing toilets can be loud, and I might hear more than one flush. The sink will turn on when I place my hands under the faucet. ** 16

Quiet Room I will tell my mom or dad if I want some quiet time. It is ok leave the show and go to the quiet room. I can sit in a chair or walk around the room. I can do activities in the quiet room if I want. 17

Clapping The show ends when the actors bow. If I like the show, I can clap when the show ends. Other people will clap. I can cover my ears if the clapping noise is too loud. People clap only for a short time then the clapping is over. 18

Leaving I have to walk up the ramp to leave the theater. All the people will leave the theater at the same time. The ramp will be crowded. I will walk slowly up the ramp. 19

Leaving The lobby can be busy when I leave and that is ok. I can choose to take the elevator to the first floor. I can choose to walk safely down the steps to the first floor. ** 20

** Parent Supplemental Information Page ** Nazareth College Arts Center has a main parking lot; however, if this parking lot is full, the overflow parking will be located in Lot J. The seating in the Callahan Theater is comprised of odd numbers to the left of the stage and even numbers to the right of the stage. o The tickets will reflect these numbers and seem out of order; however, you will still be seated next to your family members. Please refer back to page 13 of the social story for a visual aid. o The center section is both odd and even 200 numbers. Aisles 2 and 5 do not have any steps into the theater. These aisles have ramps into the theater. Please check your tickets to be aware of these changes within the aisle numbers. Each performance is different; therefore, sometimes the curtain on the stage is open upon your arrival and sometimes it is shut. We are often not aware of this information until the company has loaded in their show. Nazareth College Arts Center offers booster seats, which are located at the aisle entrances. Please ask a theater usher or volunteer for assistance, if needed. The executive director of the Nazareth College Arts Center will give an introductory announcement prior to the performance. In addition, a general safety announcement over the public address system (PA system) will occur prior to the show. Nazareth College Arts Center has 3 bathrooms on the second floor and 1 bathroom located downstairs. We have a family bathroom that is available on the second floor; please ask the theater ushers or volunteers for assistance. Sometimes, the characters come out after the show to meet and greet the audience. If the characters do this, they will be in the lobby as you are leaving. You can choose to stay and meet them prior to leaving the Arts Center. 21
