South and West Zones: Chromatic scale must be played all slurred. Do not repeat the top note. May be played in either eighth note or triplet pattern at ( q = 100-120). Judges at the tryout are to pick two major scales and the chromatic scale to go along with each of the etudes. The students must play at least 50% or one minute of each of the etudes. SCALES North Zone: Concert G and concert Db scales have been added. Articulation (tongue up, slur down) and beginning pitches for Chromatic scale have been changed. Scales do not have to be memorized. South and West Zones: Do not use G or Db scales. Chromatic scale may start on any pitch, and will be all slurred.
