S A T U R D A Y SCHOOLS SCREENING CINEMA WITH A WARM WELCOME THE HIPPODROME S FAME AS A BEAUTIFULLY RESTORED VINTAGE PICTURE PALACE DRAWS CINEMAGOERS FROM FAR AND WIDE Scottish Life Magazine REEL (RS) Weekly Saturday morning screenings. CUPPA (C) Ticket includes tea/coffee and cake/popcorn. Here We Go Again (Page6) PROGRAMMER S PICK I was in a cab the other day, chatting about the Hippodrome as I always do and the driver expressed his surprise that we screen new releases. It seems that in many peoples minds our vintage cinema is conflated with a vintage programme. Whilst we do pride ourselves on offering something different from the local plex with occasional classics, archive programmes and silent films, we love a summer blockbuster as much as the next guy. This month, alongside a 40th anniversary screening of the original summer smash Grease, much of the programme is devoted to the big studios most anticipated hits: sequels to The Incredibles and Mamma Mia. How exciting. We showed the original Mamma Mia on the occasion of the very first screening at the Hippodrome when it re-opened after the restoration back in 2009 and the atmosphere was fantastic. There really is nowhere better than the Hippodrome to see a crowd-pleaser like this we had several sell-outs of The Greatest Showman recently and folk burst in to spontaneous applause at the end, leaving the cinema on a communal high, with a hum under their breath and a skip in their step. Do help us spread the word about what the Hippodrome has to offer your mission if you choose to accept it is tell anyone that will listen: the Hippodrome is the place to be this summer for the season s top titles.
