Statements Mission The mission of Jazz In June is to present a free annual public jazz and blues music festival in rman, OK. The artistic goal of Jazz In June is to educate the public regarding jazz, as a unique American musical art form by serving as a showcase for the many diverse forms of jazz. 2

Background The rman Arts & Humanities Council* and the Cimarron Circuit Opera Company** as a collaborative project founded jazz in June in 1984. In 1989 Jazz In June was incorporated as an independent 501(c) 3 tax-exempt organization. Over its 30 years of operation Jazz In June has grown from a single performance in 1984 to a three-day festival featuring free concerts, jazz educational workshops, and after concert jam sessions. Headliners have included David Sanborn, Ellis Marsalis, Chuck Mangione, T.S. Monk III, Paquito D Riveria, Barney Kessell, Tony Guerrero and Carolyn Wonderland, to name but a few. The festival is underwritten by a variety of private and public donors and attracts an estimated concert audience of 52,000 drawn from the rman Oklahoma City area, state, region and nation. In addition to its concerts and educational programs, Jazz in June, in partnership with KGOU Public Radio at the University of Oklahoma, produces the Jazz in June Public Radio Project, from the concerts at each year's festival. Broadcast on KGOU and all of its affiliates throughout Oklahoma, as well as other public radio stations throughout the state and nation, the Jazz in June Public Radio Project reaches an estimated 100,000 each year through three to four broadcasts (July 4th, Labor Day Weekend, and Memorial Day Weekend). Past performances have been picked up by National Public Radio and Public Radio International programs with audiences into the millions. Jazz in June Combined Audience (Concerts & Radio(: 152,000 Founders current names: * rman Arts Council ** Cimarron Opera Company Impact Top goals for past year (2013): 1. Produced the 34th Anniversary Celebration. 2. Presented the musical and artistic works of national headliners Mike Hosty/Jamie Oldaker, Dr. Lonnie Smith Trio, Harold Lopez-Nussa Trio (local and regional acts: Caleb McGee & The Underdogs, Claire Piersol Band, Ardent Spirits, Victor & Penny and their Loose Change Orchestra). 3. Expanded the Jazz in June audiences in concerts (52,000), educational programs and radio broadcasts (100,000). Top goals for current year (2017): 1. Produce the 34 th Annual Jazz in June, June 15-17, 2017. 2. Secure the headline artists for Jazz in June 2018, to be announced on March 1, 2018. 3. Secure the necessary underwriting and other financial resources to carry off the first two goals. 4. Continue to build the financial and endowment resources of Jazz in June to secure its future. Needs To move forward in program growth and development, Jazz in June has identified the following pressing needs: 1. Secure a new Festival Underwriter to provide a $25,000 private gift to match a comparable grant from the Oklahoma Arts Council. 2. Secure at least two new Festival Funders, $10,000-$19,999, to expand programming and administrative capacity. 3. Continue to attract more Legacy Donors of $1000 or more to expand the Jazz in June endowment at the Oklahoma City Community Foundation and to establish similar funds at other community foundations. 4. Continued to seek a planned, estate or cash gift of $5 Million, or a combination of several gifts which equal this same amount, to endow Jazz in June at its current level of operation in perpetuity. This amount is the goal of the Legacy Program. 3

CEO/Executive Director Statement Jazz in June is an extraordinary organization due to its Board of Directors unswerving dedication to producing an admission free festival which brings the widest diversity of jazz and blues performances to the public. In an age where everyone wants to charge some fee for the least of services, and commercial venue tickets run into the hundreds of dollars, it is quite extraordinary to have a group of community minded individuals who are dedicated to presenting an art form to the widest range of people possible. This strategy must be working because each year 52,000 people from all walks of life enjoy the works of some of the greats of blues and jazz. Such greats as David Sanborn, Ellis Marsallis and sons, Chuck Mangione, Paquito D'Riveria, T.S. Monk II, Larry Coryell and Carolyn Wonderland, just a few of the artists who have graced the JIJ stage over the past three decades. For Jazz in June to continue this public mission, the partnership between the organization, its community and the public at large must be enhanced and expanded. It is not enough for the festival to rely on support from such public quarters as the Oklahoma Arts Council and City of rman. More support in the form of philanthropic partnerships with foundation and corporate giving programs must be achieved. Further, the general public must be given every opportunity to contribute their own personal gifts to the growth and development of Jazz in June. Without this cooperative support from many quarters, Jazz in June runs the real danger of not being able to keep up with the requests of its audiences for some of the greatest artists in the genre. Description The annual Jazz in June festival is the centerpiece of programming for Jazz in June, Inc. Celebrating its 35th year in 2018, Jazz in June has grown from a single concert in 1984 to a three-day festival featuring nightly concerts by national, regional and local jazz and blues headliners, after concert jam sessions, educational programs and a public radio program featuring all of the concerts from the festival. Three evenings of concerts, each featuring a national or internationally renowned headliner and regional/local artists, presented at two different venues in rman, OK.Each evening concert has its own name and theme, Thursday, Blues In the Night, Friday, Jazz Under the Stars and Groovin' on the Green, presented in Andrew Park. Budget $160,000.00 Category Arts, Culture & Humanities, General/Other Music Strategy Population Served Program Short-term Success Program Long-term Success Adults Elderly and/or Disabled Jazz in June s measurement of short-term success is quite simple and straightforward. (1) Produce and present the 35 th Anniversary Celebration of Jazz in June to celebrate over three decades of Jazz in June. (2) Maintain a positive flow of resources to support and underwrite the festival and other programs. (3) Establish the basis for the continued growth and development of Jazz in June. Jazz in June would define long-term success in two key areas, (1) Jazz Awareness, (2) Community and (3) Financial Sustainability. (1) Jazz Awareness. Jazz is a unique American musical art form. If, through the range and diversity of artists presented over a period of years, audience members gain a greater understanding of jazz, and blues, this would be a success for Jazz in June. (2) Community. Jazz in June brings together a diverse range of people to celebrate jazz and blues and has become an integral part of the rman community over three decades. The second highest response on the Jazz in June audience survey, How did you learn about JIJ? Long Time Patron (20%). People plan their summers around Jazz in June. (3) Financial Sustainability. Finally, in order for all of the above, and much more, to happen, Jazz in June must continue to offer admission free concerts to the public. To do this, its funding base must expand to meet new challenges. 5

Program Success Monitoring The Board of Directors utilizes a number of techniques to monitor Jazz in June programming. Audience Surveys. Chief among these are the audience surveys collected at each evenings concerts and the educational programs. These surveys collect demographic and audience preference data which is tabulated and presented as an annual report to the Board of Directors. Data on audience preference, recommended artists, request for returning artists, etc, are forwarded to the Program Committee for consideration in their deliberations on prospective acts for future festivals. The demographic information is utilized by the Board is policy development and planning for future festivals. Board Evaluation Meeting. Each year, within 60 days of the festival, the Board gathers for a detailed review / evaluation of all aspects of the festival. Each committee files a written report for review by the entire board. This annual review has been key to the success of Jazz in June over the last 30 years. Examples of Program Success Concerts: On June 23, 2012 a record audience of over 15,000 gathered in 100 degree heat to hear David Sanborn. This is the largest single audience to every attend a Jazz in June concert. Similar, but slightly smaller audiences, have gathered over the years to hear Ellis Marsallis, Chuck Mangione, T.S. Monk III, and many others. thing says success like record audience numbers! 6

The Jazz in June Clinic / Educational Programs Description The Jazz in June Clinic has been an integral part of the Jazz in June Festival. Originally a series of workshops presented on the Saturday afternoon of the the Festival, today a Jazz in June Clinic is presented on each day of the Jazz in June Festival. This extended format allows the Headliners of each night of Jazz in June, together with local musicians and students, to present a workshop. Imagine a one-hour workshop with jazz legends such as David Sanborn, Ellis Marsallis or Chuck Mangione, all of whom have taught at past Jazz Clinics, and you have some measure of the importance of the clinic. Additional clinics are taught by local professional musicians or experts in a number of areas, such as children's musical boot camp, the business of being a musician, etc. The Jazz in June Clinic offers up to five one-hour workshops each year. Budget $10,000.00 Category Arts, Culture & Humanities, General/Other Music Instruction Strategy Population Served Program Short-term Success Adolescents Only (13-19 years) Adults Aging, Elderly, Senior Citizens Short term success would be simply defined as the ability to continue to offer these workshops to the public. Program Long-term Success The long term success of this program is already evident. In over 20 years of presenting these workshops countless young musicians have been instructed and inspired to go on in careers in jazz and blues. Some of these have even performed on the Jazz in June stage, years later. Program Success Monitoring Examples of Program Success Audience surveys are distributed at these workshops, just as they are at the concerts, to solicit demographic and preference data. This data is then utilized to refine and plan future clinics. A young lady by the name of Champian Fulton grew up with Jazz in June. Her Father, jazz trumpeter and educator Stephen Fulton, was a driving force in the early days of Jazz in June. Champian literally grew up attending Jazz in June concerts and the Jazz in June Clinic. Today, Champian is an accomplished jazz vocalist and pianist who tours extensively and has returned to rman to perform at Jazz in June. 7

The Jazz in June Public Radio Project/ "The Best of Jazz in June" Description The Jazz in June Public Radio Project annually reaches an audience of over 100,000 in Oklahoma, and many more throughout the nation. It is the year-round outreach program of Jazz in June. This 100,000 audience is above and beyond the 52,000 people who attend the three-day Jazz in June festival each year. A collaborative program of Jazz in June, Inc. and KGOU Public Radio at the University of Oklahoma, the Public Radio Project records the concerts of each year s festival, produces these recordings into a radio program and distribute this program, free-of-charge, to participating public radio stations. The Public Radio Project is heard on KGOU, and its affiliates, as well as other Oklahoma public radio stations on July 4, Labor Day Weekend, Memorial Day Weekend and in the weeks leading up to Jazz in June. It is also offered, free-of-charge, to any National Public Radio or Public Radio International station which wishes to participate. Communities: Oklahoma City, rman, Ada, Seminole, Chickasha, Clinton and Woodward. Budget $20,000.00 Category Arts, Culture & Humanities, General/Other Broadcasting Strategy Population Served Program Short-term Success Program Long-term Success Adults The short term success of the Public Radio Project is that each year thousands of jazz patrons who were not able to attend the Jazz in June concerts are still able to enjoy the works of the renowned headliners and artists each year. Since adding the Public Radio Project over 20 years ago, Jazz in June has tripled its audience (from 50,000 to 150,000). In addition, this program has moved Jazz in June from being considered just a three-day festival every June to a year-round program touching a multitude of communities and lives throughout the year. The "Best of Jazz in June" public radio program is a National Public Radio / Public Radio International quality program, produced by KGOU Public Radio at the University of Oklahoma, in collaboration with Jazz in June. The concerts of each year's festival are recorded and produced into the two-three hour long program which is broadcast on July 4, Labor Day Weekend and Memorial Day Weekend (as well as in the weekends preceding each year's festival). Broadcasts are heard on KGOU satellite stations in Oklahoma City, Chickasha, Ada, Clinton, and Woodward as well as independent public radio stations in Tulsa and Lawton. Program Success Monitoring A complete report on the outreach of the Public Radio Project is included in the Program Report to the Board of Directors during the annual Evaluation Meeting. Over the last decade, as KGOU Public Radio has expanded its affiliate stations statewide, so has the communities served by the Public Radio Project increased. 8

Examples of Program Success Some years, the Jazz in June Public Radio Project exceeds all expectations. Collaborative Projects / Concerts A few years ago, the Public Radio International program "Beale Street Caravan" picked up, as a part of the JIJ Public Radio Project distribution to other public radio stations, the concert of Oklahoma bluesman "Watermelon Slim" at the "Blues Under the Stars" concert. That single concert reach over 1 Million listeners, nationally and internationally. And, it was not the first time a Jazz in June concert had received such national distribution. Description Jazz in June continues to seek collaborative projects with other performing arts presenters to present concerts and educational opportunities beyond the traditional confines of each year's Jazz in June Festival. Since 2012 Jazz in June has collaborated with THE DEPOT Performing Arts Studio of rman to produce a four to five concert American Heritage series in rman, OK. This series is produced as a part of the THE DEPOT's well established Winter Wind Series, as a "series within a series" featuring American Root Music. Category Arts, Culture & Humanities, General/Other Music Performances Presenting Strategy Population Served Program Short-term Success Program Long-term Success Program Success Monitoring Examples of Program Success Adults Adolescents Only (13-19 years) Elderly and/or Disabled Any collaborative project resulting in a performance(s) works to extend the name of Jazz in June beyond its traditional festival and demonstrate its viability as a community resource throughout the year. The long term success of any collaboration is in the art form ultimately presented by the cooperation. Jazz in June hopes to bring its considerable experience in securing jazz and blues acts to any such collaboration. Surveys, similar to those cited in other Program narratives, will be used to determine the effectiveness of any collaborative program offerings. The American Heritage Series brings 4-5 small concerts to the rman area each year. Both Jazz in June and THE DEPOT Performing Arts Studio collaborated on not only the planning of the concerts and retaining of the artists but also in the funding and marketing of the concerts. Disaster Programs Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD) Member Comments on Programs 9

CEO/Executive Director/Board Comments Jazz in June is a remarkable program which is indicative of the spirit of the rman community. After 30 years of producing a variety of programming (concerts, educational workshops and radio broadcasts) Jazz in June is a rman tradition respected by thousands throughout the state and nation. The challenge of Jazz in June is the same as with most cultural organizations...funding. More funding, more partnerships and more resources are required for the organization to continue to offer the superior programs and artists which have become its hallmark over the last three decades. What is not understood by many is that Jazz in June offers an extremely cost-effective resource to the community, state and nation. With some exception, its administrative and marketing costs are stable and consistent from year to year. The result? Future increases in funding, whether public or private, will primarily go to support new and expanded programming, not administrative costs. This will enable Jazz in June, with fairly modest new contributions, to offer new and expanded programming at a relatively low cost. In short, donors will get "more bang for their buck!" with Jazz in June. Staff & Management CEO/Executive Director rman Hammon Start Date Oct 1986 Email normanhammon@jazzinjune.org 10

Standing Committees Audit Development / Fund Development / Fund Raising / Grant Writing / Major Gifts Donor Services Executive minating Program / Program Planning Special Events (Golf Tournament, Walk / Run, Silent Auction, Dinner / Gala) Volunteer Comments on Board & Governance CEO/Executive Director/Board Comments Jazz in June is one of the most successful cultural programs in Oklahoma. With a live audience of 52,000 and a radio broadcast audience of over 100,000 there are few other arts organizations which can approach its reach. The challenge now is for the fundraising capacity of the organization to be equal to its programs. In surveys, audiences request more and more national, regional and local acts which require every increasing expenditures to bring these artists to audiences. Further, technical and staging requirement costs continue to mount on an annual basis. The funding goals and needs articulated in another section of this profile are specifically designed to meet these challenges. The Board of Directors has wisely placed an equal emphasis on increasing operational support as well as endowment development. This recognizes that the Board must always be focused on the immediate needs of the organization but with an eye to the future. Jazz in June is quite fortunate in that its major administrative and marketing costs have been identified and remain relatively stable from year to year. Further, Jazz in June, by the nature of its programming, does not have to maintain an office or facility which drains vital resources from programming. This cost-effective management permits Jazz in June to put the majority of any increased revenues and resources into the programming that implements its mission. In short, Jazz in June is a "good buy" for any donor. The majority of the donor's gift will be given over to supporting the music, educational and broadcast programs which have made Jazz in June a success. Foundation Staff Comments All prior year financial information is from IRS Form 990EZs. The Program, Administrative and Fundraising expenses are calculated by percentage of accrued expenses per their yearly Profit & Loss/Budget financials. Contributions may include foundations and corporations when the breakout was not available. The financial information presented is obtained from the following sources: IRS Form 990, independent audit reports, financial statements board approved when available, and supplemental information from the organization.
