To select a desired, press the correspding push-butt (see Remote Ctrol pages & 5). The adjacent LED indicator will light, indicating the selecti. Only e can be selected at a time. If power is lost or turned, Channel Select reverts to Input when power returns. The VSX may be used as a "rer", with a single signal being switched to e of four s (see Applicatis page 9). The VSX may be used with either video or audio signals. From the factory, Inputs ~ have back-terati of 3.9k ohms, which is appropriate for most applicatis. However, internal jumper straps allow selecti of 75 ohm back-terati, which is required ly for specific video applicatis (see Optis page 6). () Error: This red LED indicates when unusable informati is received via ctrol (see Remote Ctrol page & 5). Errors in transmissi/recepti of ctrol commands, or improperly cnected ctrols, will cause the Error indicator to light. (3) IR: This red LED indicates when informati is received via ctrol. If the IR and Error indicators light simultaneously, this may be an indicati of improper installati. Check the locati and wiring of all ctrols. () Internal Infrared Receiver: This green infrared detector receives commands from optial hand-held Infrared Transmitters (see Remote Ctrol page ). A transmitter will work up to 30 feet from the receiver. For best results, there should be an unobstructed of-sight from the transmitter to receiver. When infrared commands are received, the IR indicator will light. If the IR and Error indicators light simultaneously, this may be an indicati of improper installati. The Internal Infrared Receiver should not be located in direct sunlight, or pointed directly at fluorescent lighting. An internal jumper strap is provided to allow the user to bypass the Internal Infrared Receiver (see Optis page 6). (5) Power: When the Power switch is turned, the red "On" LED will light and Channel Select will revert to Input.

However, if all audio signals to be cnected are balanced, they may be wired with (+) to tip and (-) to sleeve (the / grounds are cnected directly, bypassing the VSX). The VSX may also be used as a -in/- video (or audio) "rer", with a single being switched to e of four s (see Applicatis page 9). From the factory, Inputs ~ have back-terati of 3.9k ohms, which is appropriate for most applicatis. However, internal jumpers allow selecti of 75 ohm back-terati, which is required ly for specific video applicatis (see Optis page 6). () Output: The Output is provided both BNC and RCA type cnectors, which are wired in parallel. The VSX is a passive switching device (using dry ctact relays), and will provide an signal identical to the selected signal. The VSX does not provide any processing, synchrizati, or amplificati of signals. The VSX may instead be used as an audio switcher, with Inputs ~ accepting (and the Output providing) mo audio signals. Cnectis for audio signals are typically unbalanced, wired with (+) to tip and (ground) to sleeve. However, if all audio signals to be cnected are balanced, they may be wired with (+) to tip and (-) to sleeve (the / grounds are cnected directly, bypassing the VSX). The VSX may also be used as a -in/- video (or audio) "rer", with a single being switched to e of four s. This is accomplished simply by cnecting to the VSX Output as if it were a single. Inputs ~ are then utilized as the four possible s (see Applicatis page 9). (3) Remote & Remote : These screw terals are for cnecti of optial ctrols (see Remote Ctrol pages & 5). Including the Internal Infrared Receiver, the Remote Translator (), and the Logic Inputs (6), these terals allow ctrol from up to five locatis. Optial ctrols may be wired up to 000 feet from the VSX, using -cductor shielded cable. () Remote Translator: These screw terals are for cnecti of certain third-party ctrollers (such as AMX and CRESTR ), which generate "carrier-stripped" ctrol signals. Two translator s are provided. The Low teral being used for ctrollers which produce a "low" (-5VDC ~ +VDC) when idle. The High teral is for ctrollers which produce a "high" (+VDC ~ +5VDC) when idle. The third-party ctroller must be programmed to a bitstream in the Biamp format (ctact the ctroller manufacturer to detere if their device driver library currently supports the Biamp format). (5) Remote Output: These screw terals are for cnecti to other ADVANTAGE products having similar ctrol capabilities (such as the SPMe, SPM5D, DRC+, PMX8, and EQ8M). Remote Output combines the commands from VSX frt panel switches, ctrols, & logic s, for simultaneous ctrol of additial devices (see Applicatis page 7). (6) Logic Inputs: This 9-pin Subiature D (female) cnector provides four logic s and their related ground. Logic Inputs allow ctrol of the VSX Channel Select switching functi via external logic circuits, ctact closures, or active driver circuits (see Remote Ctrol page 5). Remote ctrol via logic circuits is possible from other ADVANTAGE products, such as the AGII, DRC+, and PMX8 (see Applicatis page 8). Remote ctrol via ctact closures is possible using switches, relays, or certain thirdparty ctrollers (see Applicatis page 9). The Logic Inputs may also be ly ctrolled via active driver circuits (such as a TTL or RS-3 ). Logic Inputs also include a " switching" scheme and internal jumpers for pin assignment. (7) AC Power Cord: The external power transformer provides 7 Volts AC to the VSX, and is detachable via a 5-pin DIN cnector. The VSX has two internal Amp Normal-Blow (A NB) fuses. If fuses should require replacement, use same fuse value and type ly. 3

REMOTE CTROL An infrared receiver is provided the VSX frt panel, however, infrared and wall-mount ctrol is optial. This allows the user to select ly the type and quantity of ctrols necessary for a particular applicati. Remote ctrols affect VSX Channel Select switching, as well as functis other ADVANTAGE products that might be cnected to the VSX. Remote ctrols may be added at any time, and do not require the VSX to be modified, opened, or removed from a rack. There are four ctrol devices: a hand-held Infrared Transmitter, an Infrared Receiver unit, a wall-mount pushbutt Ctroller with status indicators & infrared detector, and a Remote Interface Kit for building custom ctrol panels. Remote ctrol of the VSX is also possible via third-party ctrollers and Logic Inputs. Infrared Transmitter (Biamp #909-0060-00): The transmitter is a hand-held ctrol, which transmits infrared codes unique to Biamp. Therefore, the Transmitter should not affect any other infrared ctrolled equipment (such as TVs or VCRs). Likewise, other infrared ctrollers will not provide proper ctrol of Biamp equipment. The transmitter requires two AAA batteries, which are included with the unit (user installed). The transmitter has twenty-eight butts, ly four of which ctrol functis the VSX. Channel Select ~ butts provide the same functi as Channel Select ~ butts the VSX frt panel. The remaining butts the transmitter may be used to ctrol other ADVANTAGE products, which are cnected to the VSX Remote Output. When used in this way, VSX Channel Select functis may be assigned to the next row of butts, to avoid cflict with the other products (see Optis page 6). For best results, there should be an unobstructed -of-sight from transmitter to receiver. The transmitter will operate up to 30 feet from a receiver. When infrared informati is transmitted to a receiver, the IR LED indicator the VSX frt panel will light. The transmitter is labelled for use with the VSX and SPMe. External Infrared Receiver (Biamp #909-0030-00): The receiver csists of a black plastic box, which ctains an infrared photo detector, an LED indicator, and three screw terals. To install the receiver, first take the frt cover by removing the four screws. Mount the receiver to wall or other surface, using the two screw holes the back cover (screws not included). The receiver should not be mounted in direct sunlight, or pointed directly at fluorescent lighting. For best results, there should be an unobstructed of-sight from transmitter to receiver. The receiver may be wired up to 000 feet from the VSX, using - cductor shielded cable (not included). Re the cable through the access hole the bottom of the receiver. The three screw terals inside the receiver ("GND", "IR", & "IR3") directly correspd to the Remote and Remote terals rear panel of the VSX. Cnect the cable shield to the "GND" teral at each end. Use the two cductors to cnect "IR" to "IR" and "IR3" to "IR3". Replace the receiver frt cover. When the VSX is turned, power is delivered to the receiver. The LED indicator inside the receiver (and the IR LED indicator the VSX frt panel) will light whenever infrared informati is detected. NOTE: The Infrared Receiver includes a "Remote Translator", which allows ctrol via third-party ctrollers (instructis included with receiver). Ctroller (Biamp #909-08-00): The Ctroller is a hard-wired ctrol, which is powered by the VSX. There are no batteries to wear, and it is not easily lost or stolen. The Ctroller may be wired up to 000 feet from the VSX, using -cductor shielded cable (not included). The Ctroller overrides commands to the VSX from any other source (frt panel ctrols, Logic, Translator, & Remote). To install Ctroller, first remove mounting box from circuit board & frt panel. Re cable through knock- hole rear of mounting box. Install mounting box in wall or panel. Three screw terals circuit board ( GND, IR, & IR3 ) correspd to Remote or Remote terals rear panel of VSX. Cnect cable shield to GND terals at each end. Use cductors to cnect IR to IR & IR3 to IR3. Install 3 circuit board & frt panel mounting box. Only four of the Ctroller butts ctrol functis the VSX. The Channel Select butts & indicators provide the same functis as Channel Select the VSX frt panel. The Main Level butts & display do not affect the VSX (the Ctroller is used with a VSX primarily when ctrolling an ADVANTAGE SPMe as well). The Ctroller also includes an infrared detector, which allows it to operate as an Infrared Receiver as well. NOTE: Two additial screw terals ( GND & KEY SWI ) allow an external key-switch (or ctact-closure) to lock- ctrol of Channel Select (and/or Main Level) functis. A -gang DIP switch the Ctroller circuit board allows custom functis to be assigned, such as Channel Select lock-, Main Level lock-, key-lock normallyopen/closed, and infrared detector defeat (instructis included with Ctroller). REMOTE CTROL Remote Interface Kit (Biamp #909-00-00): The Remote Interface Kit allows the user to create a customized ctrol panel, using his own switches, enclosure, and panel. It can provide up to 0 butts ( more than standard ctrols), which are support by some other ADVANTAGE products. The VSX itself ly supports butts (Channel Select), but it will also pass commands to other Advantage products which have been cnected to the Remote Output (see Applicatis page 7). The Remote Interface Kit is a tested circuit board assembly, which includes two wiring harnesses. The circuit board cnects to the VSX in exactly the same way the External Infrared Receiver does, using -cductor shielded cable (not included), and may be wired up to 000 feet from the VSX. The three screw terals the circuit board ("GND", "IR", & "IR3") directly correspd to the Remote & Remote terals the rear panel of the VSX. Cnect the cable shield to the "GND" teral at each end. Use the two cductors to cnect "IR" to "IR" and "IR3" to "IR3". When the VSX is turned, power is delivered to the circuit board. The circuit board is.7"w by.65"h, with four mounting holes (" centers) and #6 mounting hardware provided. Complete instructis are included with the Remote Interface Kit. Logic Inputs: The 9-pin Subiature D (female) cnector the rear panel of the VSX provides four logic s and their related ground. Logic Inputs allow ctrol of the VSX Channel Select switching functi via external logic circuits, ctact closures, or active driver circuits. When nothing is cnected to a Logic Input, an internal pull-up resistor keeps it at a "high" idle state. The Logic Input is activated when its goes "low" (less than +VDC). A Logic Input is ctrolled in e of three ways: ) Use an NPN style "open collector" logic from an external device (such as an ADVANTAGE AGII or DRC+) to short the Logic Input to ground. ) Use a switch, relay, or other ctact closure (such as from a third-party ctroller) to short the Logic Input to ground. 3) Use an active TTL or RS-3 driver circuit (such as from a third-party ctroller) to actively drive the Logic Input to a "high" or "low" state. Multiple logic s or ctact closures may be wired in parallel to a single Logic Input. Logic s and ctact closures should be rated for at least 5 Volt / ma operati. Low-current / dry-ctact closures are recommended for reliability. Active driver circuits should not exceed a signal range of -5VDC to +5VDC, and should have a imum pulse width of 50 milli-secds. Logic Input impedances are approximately k ohms for negative voltages, and approximately 0k ohms for positive voltages. Maximum recommended cable length for Logic Inputs is 0 feet. The VSX Logic Inputs include a " switching" scheme (Logic Input overrides Logic Inputs ~, Logic Input overrides Logic Inputs 3 &, and Logic Input 3 overrides Logic Input ). For example, if Logic Input is turned (Channel selected) and then Logic Input is also turned, the VSX will switch to Channel. However, if Logic Input is turned (Channel selected) and then Logic Input 3 is also turned, the VSX will not switch channels. This " switching" also helps limit the amount of unnecessary switching in video-follow-audio applicatis. Logic Input # may be hard-wired to ground, designating Input as the default when no other is selected (see Applicatis page 8). The Logic Input " switching" scheme will be overridden by commands received from other ctrols. When ctrolling the VSX via logic s from an AGII or DRC+, internal jumper straps are provided which assign the VSX Logic Inputs to the correspding pins for those products (see Optis page 6). From the factory, Logic Inputs ~ are assigned to pins ~, with pin 5 being ground. 5 3 9 8 7 6 logic s Third-Party Ctrollers: The VSX may be ly ctrolled by third-party ctrollers in three ways: ) Cnect "carrier stripped" ctrol signals to the VSX Remote Translator (see Rear Panel page 3). ) Cnect ctact closures, logic circuits, or active TTL / RS-3 driver circuits to the VSX Logic Inputs (see Logic Inputs above). 3) Apply "infrared transmitter" signals to the VSX Internal or External Infrared Receivers. The third-party ctroller must be programmed to a bitstream in the Biamp format (ctact the ctroller manufacturer to detere if their device driver library currently supports the Biamp format). 5

A similar system could be used for factory or school applicatis. An ADVANTAGE 30 receives signals from the paging sources, and sends a single to the VSX. The 30 may be assigned so signal present in Channels & causes 5dB ducking of Channel 3 (example: over telephe). (When using the VSX as a "rer", the Output cnector is used as a single.) PRECEDENCE CMA60s provide power for the four paging zes. An ADVANTAGE DA8R receives signal from a background music source, and distributes that signal to the Channel the four CMA60s. The VSX provides four s, which are sent to the Channel the four CMA60s. (When using the VSX as a "rer", the Input cnectors are used as the four s.) Paging signal is red to a specific ze via the VSX frt panel Channel Select switches or by switches cnected to the VSX Logic Inputs. The CMA60s allow signal present at the Channel to cause "page-over" muting of the Channel signal. This allows paging (and muting of background music) to be red to a specific ze. In additi, CMA60 muting (and announcement chimes) may be triggered by switches. 9
