NV5128-MC MULTI CHANNEL MASTER CONTROL SWITCHER
An Integrated Platform for Multi Channel Master Control and Routing Cost Saving Design If you're concerned about the cost of converting your station to digital, the NV5128-MC is just what you've been looking for. This innovative new product is the first ever to combine digital master control and multiformat routing in the same frame. Because there's less hardware, the NV5128-MC costs far less than separate master control and routing switchers. You'll also save the cost of input DAs and interframe cabling. And since the NV5128-MC requires only 8RU, you'll save on valuable rack space as well. Flexible Architecture The system accepts up to 128 video and audio inputs, digital or analog. Input block size is 16, so you can tailor the system to fit your needs. Analog audio inputs are converted to digital using high quality 24-bit converters. Analog video inputs (NTSC or PAL) are decoded and converted to digital with 10-bit accuracy. The NV5128-MC platform supports up to four independent digital master control switcher channels. Master control functions are handled by a plug-in module that occupies multiple output slots in the NV5128 frame. Unused output slots may be used for router buses. Cooling is provided by a plug-in fan assembly. Room air is drawn into the front of the frame and exhausted out the rear. This prevents warm air inside the equipment rack from being recirculated through the frame. The main card cage has a total of sixteen slots. The eight slots in the middle are wired for inputs. The remaining eight slots may be used for master control switcher processor modules or routing switcher output modules. Each SDI master control module requires two slots; each HD-SDI module requires 4. Each routing switcher output module requires a single slot. The system pictured is configured for one channel of HD master control, one channel of SD master control, and 32 SDI router outputs. A router control module is required for systems with router outputs. This module is the same type used in all current NVISION routers. A second router control module may be added to provide full redundancy. The plug-in power supply is the same high efficiency unit used in all current NVISION routers. One supply has enough capacity to run a fully loaded frame with power to spare. A second supply may be added to provide full redundancy. Full Featured Master Control The NV5128-MC provides all of the features you need and expect in a master control switcher. Standard features include A/B mixing with full auto transition control, multi-level video keying, logo store, "squeezeback" effects generator, audio over mixer, and more. Special attention has been paid to audio in the NV5128- MC. The entire audio path including metering and monitoring buses is eight channels wide, allowing you to take full advantage of DTV's multichannel audio capabilities. The system includes built-in embedders and disembedders as a standard feature. Built-in Dolby-E decoding is available as an option. Both Ethernet and RS-422 ports are provided for router control. A dedicated RS-422 port is available for router configuration and diagnostics. Each master control channel has its own set of control and configuration ports, including a dedicated RS-422 port for automation, and Ethernet ports for manual control panel and configuration PC. A full complement of SDI and AES program outputs are provided. A full set of monitoring and metering outputs are also provided. Performance You Can Count On The NV5128-MC is based on the field proven technology of the NV5128 multiformat router. Both of these products were developed by the same dedicated, experienced engineering team the team that pioneered such innovations as synchronous AES routing, digitally-processed time code routing, and large scale HD-SDI routing. System I/O is fully modular and may be customized on a slot by slot basis. BNC connectors are used for all video formats and for unbalanced AES. Phoenix terminal strips are used for time code and balanced AES. 25-pin D connectors are used for analog audio. I/O modules may be installed in unused connector positions to facilitate future system expansion. Alternatively, blank covers may be fitted. Alarms are provided to signal any abnormal operating conditions detected by the system's online diagnostics. Alarm outputs are simple GPIs.

System Architecture The NV5128-MC utilizes the same 8RU electronics frame as the NV5128 multi format routing switcher. This versatile platform may be configured as a routing switcher, a master control switcher, or a combination of the two. The NV5128 frame supports a total of up to 128 inputs. Input modules are available for HD-SDI, SDI, analog composite video (NTSC/PAL), AES and stereo analog audio. Input block size is 16, and input types may be mixed and matched as required. The heart of the NV5128-MC is a Master Control Processing Module (MCPM) which plugs into the output space of the NV5128 frame. Each MCPM is a self contained subsystem with its own control processor, crosspoints, and audio/video processing circuitry. A single channel master control system is comprised of a frame, power supply, clock generator or router control module, a single MCPM, and an appropriate number and type of input modules. A second power supply and clock/control module may be added for redundancy if desired. More channels may be added by plugging in additional MCPMs. A single NV5128 frame will support up to four channels of SD or up to two channels of HD. Multiple frames are needed for systems that require more than four channels of SD or more than two channels of HD. SD and HD channels may be combined in a single frame if desired. Supported configurations include one channel of HD plus one channel of SD or one channel of HD plus two channels of SD. Router output buses may be added to systems with less than a full complement of MCPMs. This is accomplished by simply plugging router output modules into vacant output slots and installing a router control module in the frame in place of the clock generator module. 128 Inputs SD Master Control Module (occupies 2 output slots) Video Program Video Preview Audio Program Audio Monitor Audio Metering Motherboard 128 Inputs 128 Inputs SD Master Control Module (occupies 2 output slots) Router Output Module Video Program Video Preview Audio Program Audio Monitor Audio Metering 16 Router Outputs 128 Inputs Router Output Module 16 Router Outputs 128 Inputs Router Output Module 16 Router Outputs 128 Inputs Router Output Module 16 Router Outputs Simplified Block Diagram of Typical System 2 SDI Master Control Channels Plus 64 Router Buses

Fully Featured Master Control Don t let the compact size or multi channel, multi function capability of the NV5128-MC fool you. It is a fully featured system that provides all of the features found on dedicated master control switchers. And more. Flexible Support for Both SD and HD Three different types of Master Control Processing Modules (MCPMs) are available. They have all been designed to operate compatibly in a multi channel environment. The NV5000-XP-SD is a standard definition MCPM that supports 525/59.94 or 625/50 operation. This module has access to all 128 system inputs for both video and audio. It occupies two contiguous output slots in the NV5128 frame. The NV5000-XP-HD is a high definition MCPM that supports 1080i or 720P operation at either 59.94 or 50Hz. It has access to all 128 system inputs, up to 64 or which may be video. This module requires four contiguous output slots in the NV5128 frame. Two of these four slots are available for use by HD-SDI router output modules, if desired. The NV5000-XP-SDHD supports all of the SD and HD standards listed above. It has access to all 128 system inputs, up to 64 of which may be video. This module is configurable at time of shipment for either SD or HD operation, and may be reconfigured in the field if required. It is ideal for stations that plan to initially operate in SD and migrate to HD at a later date. This module requires four contiguous output slots in the NV5128 frame. One of these four slots is available for use by an HD-SDI router output module, if desired. Video Processing Each of the NV5000-XP modules features ± 1/2 line autotimers on all video inputs. Video is processed as 10-bit 4:2:2 component digital. Other features of the video processor include: A/B mixer with auto transition control 3 independent linear keyers, each with separate cut and fill inputs, and auto transition control Frame-based DVE for squeezeback effects Built-in logo store, assignable pre or post squeeze Master fade to black with auto transition control Dual program outputs, one with emergency relay bypass Look-ahead preview output Timed clean feed output, assignable to any position in the video path Non synchronous signal bypass on both program and preset buses Support for either 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratios Enhanced Squeeze is a new feature that is available only on the NV5000-XP-SDHD. In addition to all of the basic squeezeback transitions that are available on the other two modules, Enhanced Squeeze makes it possible to layer a pre-scaled video source over the background video. When the squeeze transition is performed, the foreground video is squeezed back, revealing the layered background. This feature is very useful for airing promos over end-of-program credits. All of the features listed above are included as standard. So you don t need to worry about costly hardware or software options straining your budget. System Control The NV5128-MC may be controlled manually or by an automation system. Each MCPM has a dedicated RS-422 port for automation. This allows each channel in a multi channel system to be controlled independently and deterministically. Each MCPM has a 100Base-T Ethernet port for manual control. Multiple MCPMs may be connected to a single network, along with multiple control surfaces. Control surfaces may be configured to control one channel or multiple channels. It is also possible to simultaneously control up to four channels from a single control surface. A customer furnished PC running Windows XP Pro is required for system configuration, logo uploads, and software updates. This PC may also be used to run the optional GUI control software. External Router Integration Since each MCPM has its own crosspoint array, an external routing switcher is not required for basic master control switcher operation. However, in some installations, it may be desirable to use an external routing switcher for source pre-selection or for monitor wall switching. The NVISION NV9000 router control system provides all the necessary hardware and software links to seamlessly integrate multiple channels of master control with an external router. Hardware Control Panel A full function hardware control panel provides comprehensive manual control of all NV5128-MC features. The panel s physical design and layout has been optimized for intuitive operation and ease of use. Controls are grouped logically and are arranged in a manner that will be familiar to any experienced master control operator. Primary functions such as source selection, transition control, and audio monitoring are directly accessible using dedicated controls. Secondary functions such as key, squeeze and logo setups are accessible via a color LCD touch screen. The panel s program and preset rows are equipped with electronically relegendable LCD pushbuttons. This allows source names to dynamically change, a feature that is especially useful in multichannel systems with different source names for each channel. An additional group of 16 user programmable LCD pushbuttons are provided for functions such as channel selection, machine control, or GPI triggers. Graphical User Interface (GUI) A GUI providing the same functionality as the hardware control panel is also available. This virtual control panel is optimized for a 17-inch LCD touch screen. It is ideal for use as in installations where space is limited or where manual control is only occasionally required. The layout and operation of the GUI is patterned after the hardware control panel. This makes it easy for any operator to easily move between the two. The GUI is sold as a software package that is designed to run on a customer supplied PC running Windows XP Pro. A1280x1024 display is required. NV5128-MC Graphical User Interface
