1. Introduction Thank you for purchasing QubeVu Industrial. This document describes how to set up QubeVu for the first time. QubeVu is designed to capture dimensions, barcodes and images of items placed under the scanning head. Parcels (boxes), flats, documents and irregular shapes can be supported. QubeVu Operator s Guide 4

2. Concepts Of Operation Your company s QubeVu Administrator will have configured QubeVu for your environment. As an operator it is important for you to be aware of a few concepts. 2.1. Measurement When QubeVu reports dimensions of an item, it defines Length, Width and Height as: Length = the longer of the two horizontal measurements Width = the shorter of the two horizontal measurements Height = Vertical measurement 2.2. Item Placement When placing an item under the scanning head, you do not need to worry about exactly where it is placed. In general, you can place an item anywhere under the scanning head and it can be straight or at an angle. Best results will be obtained if the item is placed as centrally as possible under the scanning head. QubeVu Operator s Guide 5

2.2.1 Imaging Area OK OK Not OK The maximum size of an item to be dimensioned varies due to the camera s field of view 2.2.2 Zone Of Interest The Zone of Interest represents the area to be used for the detection of an item to be dimensioned. Items must be placed at least partially within the Zone of Interest. OK OK Not OK QubeVu Operator s Guide 6

2.2.3 Work Area The Work Area represents the area around the QubeVu base used for detecting motion. QubeVu will wait until there is no motion detected before attempting to scan an item. Work Area also provides a maximum area for the detection of flats (items <5cm) however how flats are positioned within the work area is slightly different than for parcels. Remember: The below diagram is for Flats only. Parcels will be dimensioned even if part of the item is outside of the work area. OK Not OK for flats: Item is outside of the defined Work Area QubeVu Operator s Guide 7

2.3. QubeVu In Your Environment 2.3.1 Lighting QubeVu is designed to work in most locations without having to use additional lighting. For best results in barcode scanning and imaging, the LUX value at the center of the scanning area should be 300 or higher. If you are capturing only dimensions, low lighting is not a factor. In some cases, the image may appear under or over exposed. Use the Image Quality configuration tools in QubeVu Manager to adjust exposure settings. Alternatively, see your QubeVu Administrator or call Postea Customer Support if you need more information. 2.3.2 Measuring Platform For best results in capturing dimensions, if not using a belt conveyor system it is recommended that QubeVu is positioned over a dark colored table/scale platen. If the table/scale platen is not a dark color, it is recommended that a non-glossy black mat is used to cover the scanning area. When using a scale, the platen should be black for best results. 2.3.3 Scale Placement If you are using a scale, it should be centrally beneath the lens of the QubeVu unit. During operations, your scale could move, so it is recommended that operators check the position of the scale before starting work for the day. QubeVu Operator s Guide 8

3. Irregular Shapes If your QubeVu Administrator has enabled your QubeVu to recognize irregular shapes, then both rectangular shapes and irregular shapes will be dimensioned. Some examples of how QubeVu will measure shapes: Standard cube Cylinder Sphere Polybag Tube Triangular Tube QubeVu Operator s Guide 9

Cube with an uneven top Cube with a sloped side Cube with 1 irregular side QubeVu Operator s Guide 10

4. Modes Of Operation 4.1. Automatic Versus Manual Operation QubeVu will have been configured to run in Automatic or Manual mode. The unit s configuration will depend upon the requirements and implementation of your company s application. 4.1.1 Automatic Operation When QubeVu is configured in Automatic mode, a scan of the item will start after QubeVu has detected that all motion has stopped under the scanning head. As you place the item on the scale or the base plate it is OK to re-position the item, but be aware that QubeVu will not begin to scan until that motion has stopped. Be sure to move your hands away from the scanning area. If you are holding the package in position, or otherwise have your hand in the scanning area, there is a chance that QubeVu will include your hand/arm as part of the dimensions, resulting in incorrect results. 4.1.2 Manual Operation If your application was implemented for manual operation, motion detection has been turned off. In this case, there may a button on the screen to select to start scanning, or, a barcode scan may initiate the QubeVu scan. As with automatic operations, be sure to keep your hands away from the scanning area to avoid incorrect dimensioning. 4.2. Operating With A Scale When operating QubeVu with a scale, follow the scale manufacturer s instructions for proper operation of the scale. Set the scale unit to metric or imperial Ensure the scale is reading zero, and settled, before placing an item After placing an item on the scale the weight reading must settle QubeVu Operator s Guide 11

4.3. Operating Without A Scale When operating QubeVu without a scale, flats are not supported without the use of the Disk Finders feature. Contact your Postea representative for further information. 4.4. Operating QubeVu with a Conveyor QubeVu is also able to scan items while mounted over a conveyor, however there are a few operational notes: The item must stop under the scanning head while QubeVu captures dimensions, barcodes and images. For best results use a belt conveyor Items should be positioned under the scanning head one item at a time; be sure the items are not too close together, or both items may incorrectly be scanned together. It is recommended that items are spaced about 10cm apart, and there should not be more than 1 item in the zone of interest. OK Not OK QubeVu Operator s Guide 12

5. Troubleshooting 5.1. QubeVu Is Not Responding If QubeVu is not responding at all Check that the power cable is connected to securely, and that the cable is properly plugged into a power outlet. Make sure that all lights are on. There are 3 on the rear panel of QVI, 3 on the QVWS electrical base and 1 on the QVDS & QVDS-XL scan head. If power is connected and all lights are on, you may need to restart your application. Finally, if restarting the application does not resolve the problem, power cycle QUBEVU. Remove the power cable for 3 seconds; then replace. Wait until the green light(s) are back on. Restart your application. If neither of these actions is successful, contact Customer Support for additional help. 5.2. The High Resolution Image Is All Black On QVWS & QVI models, if the image is all black, it is likely that the lens cap was left on the camera. Look at the bottom of the scanning head and remove the cap. 5.3. Images Captured Keeps Showing My Arm Be sure to move your hands away from the scanning area after placing an item. If you are still having problems, ask your QubeVu Administrator to review the configuration settings for Lock Motion and Motion Down. Refer to the QubeVu Manager Reference Guide for more information. 5.4. Some Items Do Not Trigger Automatic Capture If you are operating with a scale, make sure the scale is registering a stable weight for the item. If you are operating without scale, if the item is < 35mm high, it cannot be dimensioned without using the Disk Finder feature. If you are measuring irregular shape ensure Irregular Shape support is enabled. 5.5. Barcodes Are Not Being Read NOTE: Barcode recognition is not available in QVDS & QVDS-XL. QubeVu Operator s Guide 13

Make sure that the item was placed under the scanning head with the barcode visible on top, and that the barcode is within the imaging area. Confirm that the type of barcode you are scanning is supported by the system. A list of supported barcodes is included in the QubeVu Manager Guide, available at www.postea.com/downloads. Confirm that your QubeVu Administrator has defined the Capture Definition for your application that includes the type of barcode you are trying to scan. QubeVu Operator s Guide 14
