ELM Chamber Music Residency City of Tomorrow Saturday, January 24, 7:30pm The City of Tomorrow Quintet consists of Elise Blatchford, flute; Camila Barrientos Ossio, clarinet; Stuart Breczinski, oboe; Laura Miller, bassoon; and Leander Star, horn. Complete Beethoven String Quartet Cycle Presented by the ELM Chamber Music Residency Six internationally renowned guest artists will present the full cycle of Beethoven s 16 string quartets over the course of the next two years. This semester we welcome the Meccore Quartet and the American String Quartet (see March 7 8) for two installments in the series. David Breitman Thursday, February 19, 8pm Pianist David Breitman directs the historical performance program at Oberlin College. He is equally at home with the fortepiano and the modern piano, and enjoys both solo and ensemble playing. Sterne Virtuoso Concert Series The Genki Spark Saturday, February 28, 8pm The Genki Spark is the guest artist for the Women of Color Conference: Serious Women: Strength through Solidarity, taking place February 28 March 1 at Skidmore. A multigenerational, pan-asian women s arts and advocacy organization, it uses Japanese taiko drumming, personal stories, and creativity to build community, develop leadership, and advocate respect for all. ELM Chamber Music Residency Skidmore String Festival March 7 8 The 11th annual Skidmore College String Festival welcomes back the world-renowned American String Quartet as artistsin-residence. Festival activities include individual and group coaching with the dynamic quartet and Skidmore faculty. Tchaikovsky s Sleeping Beauty presented by Skidmore College Orchestra and Department of Dance Friday, April 10, 8pm Saturday, April 11, 8pm Sunday, April 12, 3pm Premiered in St. Petersburg in 1890, Sleeping Beauty is considered the penultimate grand classical ballet. Set in Baroque style, it celebrates the triumph of good over evil and features a large cast of delightful storybook characters. Sleeping Beauty is the third collaborative project for Professor Denise Warner Limoli s Classical Ballet Workshop and Professor Anthony Holland s Skidmore Orchestra. Arthur Zankel Music Center Since opening in 2010, the Arthur Zankel Music Center at Skidmore College has served as a gateway building for the campus. The center boasts approximately 54,000 square feet of teaching, practice, performance, and administrative space- including the 600-seat, acoustically tuned Helen Filene Ladd Concert Hall and the 75- seat Elisabeth Luce Moore Hall- and has become a hub of musical activity, hosting renowned visiting artists and student performers, including a number of the area s best-known performing groups. The center is named in memory of Arthur Zankel, a financier and philanthropist who was a Skidmore trustee, parent, and longtime supporter. His bequest to Skidmore of $46 million is the largest gift in the college s history. Of the bequest, $15 million went to the Zankel Music Center. Support Zankel Skidmore welcomes the support from alumni, parents, and friends to enhance the operations of the Zankel Music Center. When you name a seat in the Helen Filene Ladd Concert Hall, an inscribed plate will be permanently attached to it, creating a lasting legacy in your name, in the name of a friend or faculty member, in someone s memory, or in recognition of a company or organization. House Policies The taking of photographs and/or the use of recording devices during performances is strictly prohibited. Latecomers will be admitted at the first convenient pause in the performance and will be seated at the discretion of the events manager. Latecomers will be able to view/ hear the event from the lobby. Food and beverages are not allowed in the concert hall. Our Assistive Listening System can aid patrons with a hearing loss of up to 75 percent.
