February 2010 900449-001 Rev. 0 Applicability Addendum to Installation Guide System Enhancements & Modifications This document is applicable to the components or categories listed below: Software Hardware Firmware Mechanical Packaging About This Document This document is intended for Operators of Barfly digital signage systems, TouchTunes Field Service, Customer Support, and Sales personnel. It describes modifications and enhancements made to the Barfly system subsequent to the release of the Barfly Installation and Setup Guide (p/n 900393-001 Rev. 0, November 2009). Automatic Identification of IP Address Since the most recent release and publication of the Barfly Installation and Setup Guide, TouchTunes/Barfly has developed new firmware (version B 01) for the Barfly video presentation scaler that streamlines the calibration process. As such, there is an enhancement to the splash screen GUI. Once all Barfly hardware components have been connected and powered up, pressing the yellow button on the Barfly keypad at any time causes the splash screen to display. New Splash Screen The new splash screen displays the firmware revision and serial number of the scaler and more importantly to the installer the IP address of the Barfly computer. 1 of 5
Having this information readily available eliminates the need for the installer to determine the IP address by consulting venue personnel or examining the router s DHCP client table before establishing a connection with the Barfly computer and proceeding with scaler calibration. Identifying Displays in a Multi-Scaler Installation When an installation involves multiple scalers (and multiple TV sources), immediately identifying the TV connected to the selected scaler at calibration time may not be an easy task for the installer. The current Barfly software release includes an enhancement that enables the installer to identify at a glance which scaler is selected. At the Select Scaler step in the Barfly calibration wizard, when the installer selects a scaler, the connected TV displays a red Barfly logo in the upper left-hand corner of the screen. TV 1 TV 2 TV 3 Connected display shows logo Selected scaler Identifying TV Connected to Scaler Once the installer clicks Next to proceed with the calibration, the logo is removed from the display. Important: Should the installer exit the calibration wizard before clicking Next, the Barfly logo will remain visible on the screen until the next calibration session or reboot of the scaler. 2 of 5
Choosing Video Source Connection Type Previously, at the Select Picture-in-Picture Input Source step in the Barfly calibration wizard, the installer could select among the following radio buttons: component dvi vga composite Old selection screen New selection screen PIP Input Selection Screens The current Barfly software release incorporates a simplified selection menu, comprising only the selections component/vga and composite. DVI is no longer supported that is, you cannot connect the DVI output of a video source directly to the DVI input of the scaler. Video Converters and Extenders This section provides information on video converters and extenders not documented in the November 2009 release of the Barfly Installation and Setup Guide. SP-9002 (Kit SK-2) The SP-9002 VGA Splitter is designed to work as a duplicator and an amplifier at the same time for VGA, component, or composite video applications. The SP-9002 takes one video input from a VGA source and immediately directs it to two VGA monitors or projectors, and also boosts and extends the signal up to 65m (210ft) without noticeable signal loss or picture degradation.
