President s Message M.B.C.A. Road Star sec.on had 15 cars at the Lords of the NurburgRing car show at the German- American Club in Lake Worth. This was their inaugural event. Although we are the smallest of the 4 clubs that par.cipated, we had the highest percentage of registrants. For a first.me event, it seemed to go very well despite the 98 degree temperature and driving rain at 4 p.m. which, fortunately, came just as the awards ceremony was finishing. Our Club did very well, as each of the 4 marques- - BMW, Porsche, Audi and Mercedes- Benz- - were judged individually. Peter Krones won third place in our group and Stuart AlXest won second place. First place went to a silver 1969 280SL which had just finished a complete restora.on, owned by Perry Lancianese. Awards were also given to the Top 40 entries- - Jack Doyle, Kurt Bass, Ed Payne, Peter Poznerowicz, Linda Paraizo, Gary Rubin, and Eckart Scheffler from our group. Probably the highlight of the event was the dinner dance inside the German- American Club for those of us who hung in there (air condi.oning helps). Linda and I changed into our German dirndl and lederhosen ouxits and joined Mary & Ed Payne, Martha & Peter Poznerowicz, and Judy & Jack Doyle for a tradi.onal German meal that included Wienerschnitzel, cucumber salad, potato dumpling and apple strudel. There was dancing to an OomPah band from the German Pavilion at Disney World, a handbell concert, a long horn blower, and a dancing group from Miami. The Miss Oktoberfest compe..on had 10 entries, who were introduced to the audience, then answered ques.ons for the judges, and all the were asked to vote for the People's Choice. Ed wanted to vote for all of them!! Although all the girls were beau.ful, it was not as much a beauty contest and it was a judging of the girl who would most exemplify the values of the German- American Club and be a good spokesperson and ambassador for them. Although arriving at 9 a.m. and returning home at 11 p.m. made for a very long day, it was a great first-.me experience. If the BMW Club chooses to organize a similar show next year, I fully intend to suggest that they re- schedule the event for a cooler month!!
