April 17, 2018 Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng Discussion Leader: Judy Vann A riveting novel that traces the intertwined fates of the picture-perfect Richardson family and the enigmatic mother and daughter who upend their lives. Mia Warren carries with her a mysterious past and a disregard for the status quo that threatens to upset this carefully ordered community. Little Fires Everywhere explores the weight of longheld secrets, the ferocious pull of motherhood and the danger of believing that planning and following the rules can avert disaster, or heartbreak. May 15, 2018 A Land More Kind Than Home by Wiley Cash Discussion Leader: Jan Allgood In his phenomenal debut novel a mesmerizing literary thriller about the bond between two brothers and the evil they face in a small North Carolina town. Author Wiley Cash adeptly captures the rhythms of Appalachian speech, narrating his atmospheric novel in the voices of three characters: 81-year-old Adelaide Lyle, who represents the moral conscience of the community; the adolescent Jess Hall, who has a dangerous knack for discovering things adults would rather keep hidden; and the middle-aged sheriff Clem Barefield, who has never recovered from a loss he suffered years ago.
National Library Week April 8-14, 2018 is a time to celebrate the contributions of our nation's libraries and library workers and to promote library use and support. From free access to books and online resources for families to library business centers that help support entrepreneurship and retraining, libraries offer opportunity to all. The theme for 2018 National Library Week is "Libraries Lead," and American Ballet Theatre Principal Dancer Misty Copeland will serve as 2018 National Library Week Honorary Chair. National Library Week 2018 will mark the 60th anniversary of the first event, sponsored in 1958. This national celebration is sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and observed in libraries across the country each April. All types of libraries - school, public, academic and special - participate every year in National Library Week.
