APOSTOLIC SCHOOL OF THEOLOGY TITLE OF PAPER LONG TITLES ARE DOUBLE-SPACED SUBMITTED TO PROFESSOR [NAME] IN PARTIAL FULFILLMENT OF COURSE NUMBER AND TITLE BY YOUR NAME MONTH DAY, YEAR

PRIMARY HEADING LONG HEADINGS ARE SINGLE-SPACED ON ADDITIONAL LINES The top margin is two inches for the first page only. There are two blank lines between the title and the text (or subheading if there is one). The left, right, top, and bottom margins are one inch for the rest of the paper. The first paragraph of a new section or sub-section should be justified to the left margin. For subsequent paragraphs, the first line of the paragraph is indented ½ inch. Use 12 point font and double space throughout with a standard font such as Times New Roman. PRIMARY HEADING The primary heading of each section should be centered with all caps. If the heading is longer than one line, make it single-spaced. First-Level Subheading Keep two blank lines between the text of the preceding section and a subheading, regardless of the level. A first level subheading is centered, bold, and capitalized headline style. Second-Level Subheading " 1

"2 There are two blank lines between the text of the preceding section and the subheading. A second-level subheading is centered and capitalized headline style. Third-Level Subheading A third level subheading is on the left margin, in bold, italics, and capitalized headline style. A heading should never be the last text on a page. If necessary, add extra blank space at the end of the page and begin the following page with a heading. Fourth-Level Subheading A fourth-level subheading is on the left margin, capitalized headline style. The page numbers for the non-initial page of the paper (or chapter) are located at the top right corner. The text of the body of the paper is double-spaced except for blocked quotations. This is a blocked quotation. It should consist of five or more lines of text and be indented one-half inch. Block quotations should be single-spaced. No quotation marks are used at the beginning or the end of the quote. Double quotation marks within the original matter are retained. The blocked quote is set off by a regular double space before and after the quote. Note that regular spacing resumes after the end of the quotation (Collins 1992, 222). After a block quotation, return to double-spaced text justified to the left margin until you finish the paragraph. PRIMARY HEADING Pagination with SBL is unusual. Pages preceding the body of the paper use Roman numerals. The title page technically counts as Roman numeral i but it is not printed on the page. If you

"3 have a table of contents or abstract, it would be assigned a Roman numeral located at the bottom of the page in the center. The first page of the body of the paper should have an Arabic 1 centered at the bottom of the page. Page 2 through to the end of the body of the paper should have sequential Arabic numbers in the top right hand corner. For the bibliography, the numbering is continued from the body of the paper, but it is located at the bottom of the page in the center (like page 1). Every resource cited in the text of the paper should be listed in the bibliography, and every resource listed in the bibliography should be cited in the text of the paper. Use the authordate method of citations. There are several variations. The name, year of publication, and page number should always be given (Fender 1999, 51). Sometimes part of the information may be given in the text of the sentence as found in Talbert 1992 (51). Pfuhl (1980, 65-68) provides another example. THE SECTION BREAK BEGINS IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE PERIOD (.) AT THE END OF THIS NOTICE; BE CAREFUL NOT TO DELETE THE SECTION BREAK OR PAGINATION AND FORMATTING WILL BE OFF.

BIBLIOGRAPHY First entry here, hanging by ½ inch. There is one space between each entry, while entries are single spaced. The entries are alphabetized by author s last name. There is a two inch margin from the top of the page and the word BIBLIOGRAPHY and there are two lines between BIBLIOGRAPHY and the first entry. The page number should be bottom center on the first page of the bibliography and in the top right corner for each subsequent page. Bender, Michael. The Thoughts of a Skeptic. No pages.
