FTTH & FITH Discreet optical fiber solutions from the network connection point to the set-top box www.omelcom.com

FIBER: THE FUTURE IS HERE The past several years have seen major progress in the penetration of Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) networks across Europe. Investment in FTTH networks by governments and private-sector stakeholders is providing consumers with telecommunications infrastructures that meet their needs both today and in the future. The network equipment market has responded with a broad range of products. However, when it comes to deploying optical fiber networks in the home, solutions remain scarce. End users are particularly concerned with the appearance of wiring and equipment in their homes. Installers are seeking products that make their work faster and easier. Omelcom, a leader in home network equipment, understands the needs of both end users and installers. Our latest FTTH and FITH products are designed to bring fiber into all homes, whether they are single- or multi-family or new or existing properties. At Omelcom, we believe that fiber is the future of home networks. Our mission is to support FTTH penetration across Europe. FTTH TO FITH: THE CUTOFF POINT Bringing optical fiber into the home requires two types of equipment: Fiber-to-the-Home products, which link the operator network to the home, and Fiber-in-the-Home products, which distribute the optical fiber network throughout the home. The indoor termination point is where FTTH ends and FITH begins. It is the cutoff point between the operator network and the subscriber s private network. New buildings are delivered with an ENTI (External Network Testing Interface) integrated into the home network cabinet; existing homes will have to be retrofitted with a wall-mounted outlet. The operator owns the equipment on one side of the cutoff point; the subscriber owns the equipment on the other. And different products are required on each side of this cutoff point. On the operator network side, equipment is often outdoors, which means that it must be particularly robust. And for distribution needs, the equipment must be able to accommodate a large number of fibers. On the subscriber side, the needs are very different. Homeowners are looking for discreet solutions with small cables and boxes. OMELCOM, BRINGING FIBER INTO EVERY HOME 2 Omelcom is leading the way in FITH solutions with products that are fast and easy to install and that are extremely discreet sometimes virtually invisible, meeting homeowners need for optical fiber network solutions that don t compromise on aesthetics. Our range of solutions includes invisible, discreet 1 OF, 2 OF, and 4 OF products to meet a wide range of needs.

CONTENTS 01 OMELCOM SOLUTIONS FOR EXISTING HOMES Our recommended solution for single-family homes Our recommended solution for multi-family buildings 02 OMELCOM SOLUTIONS FOR NEW HOMES 03 PRODUCTS Outlets Cables Kits s 04 THE DIFFERENT POSSIBLE CONFIGURATIONS FOR EACH TYPE OF INSTALLATION 3

SOLUTION RECOMMENDED BY OMELCOM FOR EXISTING SINGLE-FAMILY HOMES few existing homes are equipped with home network cabinets. therefore, the optical termination point is often mounted on a wall as close as possible to the point where the cable enters the home. however, to make sure that wireless devices like smartphones and tablets have internet access in every room throughout the home, it is preferable to place the set-top box at the center of the home. omelcom has developed a discreet solution to extend the optical fiber network from where it enters the home to the home s main living area. 4

CONNECTING THE HOME TO THE NETWORK The OTO Number of optical fibers: 1OF 2OF 4OF Use: The OTO (Optical Termination Outlet) associated with the double-sheath, strippable indoor/outdoor optical cable provide the link with the outdoor termination box. The cable is designed for drop or in-conduit installation. It has a black outdoor sheath and a white indoor sheath. The strippable design lets the installer remove the black outdoor sheath at the point where the cable enters the home. The OTO is designed to be easily mounted on any wall. The front shutter hides the open/close mechanism and protects the product ID number from wear. Mounts using screws or adhesive double-sided tape or on a flush-mounted box Front shutter hides open/close mechanism and product ID 80 mm x 80 mm 5 line-in slots on side Secure anchor for incoming cables Six-position lockable cassette 2 ripcords LSZH interior cable sheath Optical fiber: G657A2 Connector with built-in protection 1 to 4 Simplex SC connectors Up to 4 smooves 40 mm CONNECTING THE HOME NETWORK TO THE SET-TOP BOX OT Home DISCREET Number of optical fibers: 1OF Use: This all-in-one outlet was designed to bring fiber to wherever it is needed in the home, regardless of configuration. It is a universal solution to ensure fast and easy installation for the installer and an aesthetic appearance for the end customer. The Home µcable is rolled up right inside the outlet around a rotating spool for easy unrolling. Connectors are factory-mounted on both ends, for splice-free installation. The cable is made from G657B3 optical fiber with a bending radius of 5 mm, making it easy to install around door trim and other obstacles. It is also particularly easy to work with. Mounts using screws or adhesive double-sided tape Minimum bending radius of 5 mm Optical fiber: G657B3 80 mm x 80 mm SCAPC connector Cable diameter 900 µm Mounts on baseboards with hot glue or silicone 4 line-out positions 30 m of cable rolled up inside the outlet Connectors factory-mounted on both ends 5

SOLUTION RECOMMENDED BY OMELCOM FOR EXISTING MULTI-FAMILY BUILDINGS few existing homes are equipped with home network cabinets. therefore, the optical termination outlet (oto) will have to be mounted on a wall. to make sure that wireless devices like smartphones and tablets have internet access in every room throughout the home, it is preferable to place the set-top box at the center of the home. omelcom has developed a solution that takes advantage of the home s existing low-voltage electrical conduits, used to connect the home to the building s main riser, and provide invisible wiring right to the home s living area. 6

CONNECTING THE HOME S LIVING AREA TO THE BUILDING RISER Push-Pull cable INVISIBLE Number of optical fibers: 1OF Use: The Push-Pull cable was designed for use in conduits that already contain other wiring. This installation technique is faster than installation with a traditional pull-through wire that no longer has its pull. The cable comes with a special tip to easily navigate bends in the conduit. A feed tube on the first several meters provides additional rigidity to aid in navigating bends in conduits. This lets the installer stand back from the wall for easier, more practical installation. The Push-Pull cable also comes with a factory-mounted connector on the outlet end for fast, splice-free installation in the home. Special tip to guide the cable through bends in conduits Can be pushed through conduits that already contain wiring Small, rigid push cable Feed tube on first several meters for additional rigidity through the bends in conduits No lubricant required Mixed OTO INVISIBLE Number of optical fibers: 1OF Use: The Mixed OTO (Optical Termination Outlet) can be installed on the back of an existing flush-mount electrical outlet. Everything about this product was designed to ensure fast and easy installation for the installer and an aesthetic appearance for the end customer. The Mixed OTO can be installed on all existing low-voltage outlets (coaxial, telephone, RJ45, HDMI, etc.). If the previously installed outlet is unusable after the installation of the Mixed OTO, a faceplate and connectors are available to replace it so that the existing copper connection can continue to be used. Mounts without removing the existing wiring and devices Shutter to protect the product ID 2 positions provide a secure anchor for incoming cables No need to disconnect the existing outlet Connector with built-in protection No splicing in the home Factory-mounted connector on outlet end Faceplate and connectors to replace existing outlet if unusable 7

SOLUTION RECOMMENDED BY OMELCOM FOR NEW HOMES newly-built homes are delivered with a home network cabinet. a reserve space next to the cabinet is provided to install subscriber-side home network equipment. the home network cabinet is where incoming cables and outgoing cables to the home s rj45 outlets meet. the indoor termination point for new homes, the enti (external network testing interface), is installed inside the home network cabinet. the set-top box is placed either in the reserve space next to the cabinet, or, ideally, at the center of the home to make sure that wireless devices like smartphones and tablets have internet access in every room. if the set-top box is placed at the center of the home, the signal can be brought either using a twisted pair cable or an optical cable. because most new-generation set-top boxes come with optical fiber hookups, omelcom recommends using optical cable. SINGLE-FAMILY MULTI-FAMILY 8

CONNECTING THE HOME TO THE NETWORK Modular ENTI kits INVISIBLE Number of optical fibers: 1OF 2OF 4OF Use: The ENTI kit is composed of an outlet factory-connected to indoor or outdoor cable in order to connect the home to the outdoor cutoff point, operator connection point, or building connection point. The outlet is modular (18 mm or 36 mm wide) for easy installation in home network cabinets. The connectors have built-in protection. The kit comes with a cable with factory-mounted connectors either on the ENTI end or on both ends. The cable comes with a pull-through eye for easy installation in conduits. The number of optical fibers and product ID are on the front plate Angled line-in slot to guide the cable Secure anchor for all types of cable up to 5.2 mm in diameter Fiber color codes 1, 2, or 4 fiber modular formats Connectors with built-in protection 1 to 4 Simplex SC connectors Spring-loaded DIN-rail clip CONNECTING THE HOME NETWORK TO THE SET-TOP BOX Set-Top Box Outlet INVISIBLE Number of optical fibers: 1OF Use: The Set-Top Box Outlet brings the optical fiber network right to the home s living area to connect new-generation set-top boxes directly to the optical fiber network. The flush-mountable double outlet has one Simplex SC connector and one RJ45 connector. The RJ45 connector brings the signal (IP telephone and Gigabit Ethernet) from the set-top box back to the home network cabinet for routing to all of the home s other RJ45 wall outlets. This complete kit includes the outlet, optical cable, and twisted pair cable. The cables are delivered together in a pulling grip so that they can be installed at the same time. The optical cable is delivered with factory-mounted connectors on both ends for splice-free installation. The solution comes in a roll dispenser with a friction coeffcient that allows a single technician to pull the cable. Copper and optical cables pulled together in a single conduit or in two separate conduits Fiber optic connection to the set-top box Gigabit Ethernet signal routed back to the home network cabinet G657A2 optical fiber and SCAPC connector Twisted pair cable and FTP or STP Cat6 RJ45 connector Complete kit with outlet, connectors, and 15 m of each cable 9
