PENISTONE LINE TIMETABLE Welcome to MetroTrain MetroTrain services between Huddersfield and Denby Dale are operated by Northern in accordance with the requirements of Metro. This timetable shows all trains between Huddersfield and Sheffield Additional trains run between Barnsley and Sheffield. Extra Sunday trains are planned to run on six Sundays before Christmas and in January 2007. The Penistone Line Partnership operates a regular programme of live music on trains and guided walks from the train. PENISTONE NORTHERN STAR - EXTRA SUNDAY TRAINS Northern will be operating four additional trains on the line on six pre-christmas Sundays from 19 November to 24 December 2006 inclusive, and also on Sundays 21 and 28 January 2007. Please see over for details. The extra trains cannot run on 7 and 14 January 2007 as originally planned due to engineering work in the Sheffield area.
The PLP is the Railway Development Company for the Penistone Line. The section of line between Huddersfield and Barnsley has been selected as a pilot for the Department for Transport Community Rail Development Strategy. We are working with Metro, South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive, Northern Rail, Kirklees MC, Barnsley MBC and Network Rail to increase patronage and reduce costs along the line and to develop projects and activities which benefit local communities. Activities planned include: Regular Guided Walks from stations along the line, aimed at those who like a friendly, easy paced walk. Live Music with a Bar on the train. First and third Monday evenings through the summer, normal rail fares apply. Work with local schools on educational projects and station adoption Art Along the Penistone Line is coming to Penistone Station soon look out for details locally. The Penistone Northern Star shines brighter in 2006 Extra Sunday services on the Penistone Line on Sundays 19 and 26 November; 3, 10, 17 and 24 December 2006 and 21, 28 January 2007 After the success of the extra Sunday trains on the Penistone Line last year Northern will again be running extra services on the Penistone line on six Sundays before Christmas and, for the first time, for two Sundays* in late January. There s something for everyone...whether it s Christmas shopping or the New Year s sales in Huddersfield, Barnsley, Meadowhall or Sheffield, or visiting a festive market or perhaps you just want to enjoy the beautiful views between Penistone and Huddersfield. Bring the kids and meet Santa! Despite his busy schedule Santa and his helpers will be visiting the Penistone Line on Sundays 3 and 10 December travelling on the 1232 Sheffield - Huddersfield and 1414 Huddersfield - Sheffield additional Sunday trains. There s music and food on line too...with live music from the Thurlstone Brass Band on 19 and 26 November on the 1232 Sheffield - Huddersfield and 1414 Huddersfield - Sheffield additional Sunday trains, and Big Deal and the Penistone Line s own traditional jazz band, the Train Gang, on the Christmas music trains on 4 and 11 December.
